I blame both of your names. Sailorcuteness sounds incredibly feminine, and Scrawffler has a somewhat masculine sound to it. Unless there's a meaning behind it that would suggest otherwise (but then, most people wouldn't know about the meaning without asking).
And Scrawffler, I admit that I only found out you were a girl a couple days ago. I forget what finally gave it away, but before this week, I had no idea.
Haha, fair enough. I was never really sure if my username sounded particular masculine or feminine.
And yes, my username did originally come from a character I'd designed for an animated series (which I then put on hold for many years). The character was female, though originally called "Scruffy" (which might also sound masculine) until I decided that the characters would all have unique, weird names. I messed around and finally came up with "Scrawffler". Also, the character was a bit tomboyish, which still doesn't really make the name seem feminine!
But yeah. That's the story.
I've love to hear Sailorcuteness's story-behind-the-username now.
I was told by a few people in an old mmo clan of mine that they thought I was a girl at first. I dunno why that is.
Chiron (krn)
Chiron is the centaur from Greek mythology who taught Hercules, Achilles and Jason, as well as several others.
I liked the spelling with a 'y' better, but same pronunciation.
Truth be told, I originally took the name from an obscure sci-fi movie, in which a man named Jobe Smith tries to take over the world by obtaining "the Chiron chip" which would route everyone in the world's interface to the Net through him first. (I liked the first movie that this this was a sequel to much better, but idc. I liked the sound of the name.)
...oh, and everyone who's anyone who's followed Star Trek knows where 8472 comes from. TTG wouldn't let me have just "Chyron" as a username.
A couple of days ago someone who I play online football (soccer for you Americans) with told me he thought I was around 40 years old - I'm only 28!! I guess I must sound old (either that or I wheeze and tut a lot, or something).
I have been tricked! I would have expected this from Fontaine, or perhaps even Lamb... but from a common surface dweller? My, the Chain is moving away from me... Perhaps it's time to give it a tug...
I used to attribute getting mistaken for a guy on the Internet to my old screen name, Clanker, but I can't see how "Shwoo" looks particularly masculine or feminine.

So, then you're one of those girls who has short boycut hair, no visible makeup nor feminine earrings, wears men's t-shirts, baggy jeans and Chuck's, and has a speaking voice that makes people unsure if you're a male tenor or a female alto?
Yeah, I know loads of girls who wear jeans and converse.
Then I ruin their counter-culture experience by telling them that Converse are owned by Nike and they're just another tool of the man... ah the simple pleasures
I think it's the hard "er" sound at the end that does it.
Yes, I think we all would.
"er" isn't a hard sound, especially with non-rhotic accents like most English ones. I'd say that the positioning of two consecutive consonants, one of them being fricative (Scrawffler), makes the name seem more masculine. Having said that, I don't see the name as all that masculine any way.
Well they're my favourite shoes, so I choose to believe it.
I think they can definitely be feminine. They're unisex in my opinion. I've got a pair but they're so old now that I can feel the texture of the floor through the soles

When I first joined the forums I did actually think you were a girl.
Then again, a lot of people online think I'm a guy even though I'm not. Happens. XD

Actually, that's broadly true.

That's what she said.*
*There shouldn't be any confusion about me now that I've said that. (Although I'm not sure the first one works.)
