I bet from a financial standpoint the NBC deal was a smart move, and even if I don't think TTG will be "selling out" on those franchises, it's probably a guaranteed moneymaker. And more money for Telltale means more money for more games.
LEC really doesn't have much to lose from licensing Monkey Island back to Telltale, so that doesn't seem to be a problem to me. Telltale themselves would be crazy not to have another crack at it given the chance, since it did well for them before.
I don't mind if they want to wait a year or two to do it. Look at it this way: TTG are always getting better, both with their engine and with their gameplay/storytelling. So the longer it takes them to do it, the better the next season will be!
The difference between ToMI and MToMI (More Tales of Monkey Island, as I like to call it) should be broader than even the difference between Sam & Max Season 1 and Sam & Max Season 3. Each Monkey Island game should feel like a totally different game, and I think having another season come out too soon would make it feel more like an immediate continuation, which I think would be counter to the precedent that the series has set so far, you know?

I wouldn't mind Tim, Dave and Ron writing and directing another Monkey Island game for LucasArts like the Special Editions. I think that's the best way for LucasArts to get into adventure games again, if they want to. Make a couple of new games instead of just remakes. Then interest in the genre gradually grows and the idea of a full-blown high-budget adventure game from LucasArts could very well be a reality someday. Plus, the Wii and PS Move are both very good alternatives if they want to release on multiple platforms, instead of just the PC.
