In case people haven't been reading the first post, we're not dumping the DeLorean.
I was just making idle conversation about what might have been chosen in place of the DeLorean if the original movie were made today.
And, regarding the game, most people (almost everybody, including me, of course) want the DeLorean back. That doesn't mean that they have to discard the Time Travel Train. In fact, having two time machines on the game (the train and the DeLorean) could provide cool stories and gameplay.
Well the Tesla roadster is the obvious choice. But you could also go for a bit of a joke and choose an even older car with a futuristic look like a Nova Kit Car
Perhaps it doesn't meet modern delorean criteria in any way, except for being mid engine. But just imagine that thing with time travel gear bolted on. And getting to 88mph in like four seconds
The DeLorean paid off on so many gags in the BttF series...
It was a well known, yet hard to get, American exotic car... why not build a time machine with style!
It was known for having serious performance compromises making the 88mph part a bit of a in-joke gag.
It's heavy as all get out-- yet it eventually can fly.
It looks like the alien spaceship on the farmer kid's comic book.
.
Cool thread, but I had to chime in on a couple of things: the DeLorean isn't "heavy as all get out", it clocks in at 2712-2744 lbs., which is waaay less than an 81 'Vette and shaves under a same year Porsche. Remember, the car is fiberglass with stainless panels hung over it. The only part that is solid stainless is the doors.
Anyway, on topic, I'd have to agree with the Tesla for contemporary cars. A decade ago I would have said the Plymouth Prowler since it was to be Plymouth's halo car but ended up being underpowered with mediocre performance, high-priced, and a flop.
Doubt there is one, all cars of the future or this era is really ugle, its girlie cars, round shapes, just because girls boobs and butt is round doesnt mean i want a car with round shapes.
There is a reason why cars such as BTTF and Knight rider is so BADASS.
They have the rugged hard edge shapes. And its all about girlie curves

Haha. I used to think its about aerodynamics, but now I know, its about boobs!
You are so right though. Cars used to look so much better.
Pointy and sleek? Great. Edged, big, tough looking? Awesome!
Now most new regular cars are just round, ugly and akward.

in that case a 2010 challenger :P
Oh my friend, you need to be more well versed in automobiles
ever heard of a Humber Super Snipe?
and just for fun I'd like to see a Pegaso:
Score-- that's a hot car. Don';t know if it trumps the DeLorean... but it's cool.
I think this is futuristic enough to make the delorien proud. The Mercedes McLaren Mini SLR Concept Car.
You mean this atrocity?
Looks like it could get you to work on time AND trim your beard!
Now vertically invert, grasp in two hands, and begin bludgeoning.
Gee ooh gee gee ooh... that's for the aussies on the board...
And I would like a Mini cooper instead of a Delorean.... No real reason other than I do...
Hehe, sucks to get in/out of that car in the rain.
I think this is the most obvious choice

I like this one. It feels the same. But more modern and edgy.
EDIT: Oh, duh. I didn't notice it was actually a De Lorean . Still, I like it.
Or a reliant robin, pictured below, strapped to a rocket. For good measure.

My first and only favorite is Koenigsegg Agera...
plus:
- great design
- carbon fiber body
- great door opening
- around 4 sec to 88 miles/h
minus:
- price: 1,5 million $

When you want a DeLorean but also want a car that actually works decently? Pick an Aerovette.
And as for the flux dispersal...metallic paint or metal plating.

^I love that they revived that design for a new car. I wouldn't mind seeing a time machine version...
Wow. Id say thats a winner.
It looks incredible.
