From this moment on, I will either skip preordering entirely, or just wait for the last possible second to preorder.
I thought TellTale got the message after the Sam and Max:The Devil's Playhouse TF2 preorder item kerfluffle, but apparently not. Strange, as the handling of that issue is what caused me to preorder BTTF despite my earlier reservations.
As for those of you who mentioned the exclusive forum... that's great. I rarely read it. Which means the "time-sensitive deals" were/are absolutely useless to me. It's a moot point anyway, I already have almost every game TellTale makes, and I'm not interested in further merchandise related to those.
This is the first time I've pre-ordered from Telltale, and will probably be the last. I really only pre-ordered out of sheer over excitement. To be honest, access to the exclusive forum, discount coupons and a few sound bytes hasn't really been worth it.
Now if there were an actual pre-order exclusive item involved, I mean REALLY exclusive to the people who pre-order and not just something that will be made widely available later down the line, then that would sway my opinion.
And really when you think about it, it's a downloaded game. So unless Telltale purposely stop all downloads (which they obviously won't), it's not like the game is going to "run out of stock" and I'll miss out entirely.
But the game will be available on disc after all the episodes are out and since you preordered you get the disc for free (you only need to pay for postage)

Just like everyone else who ever buys the game again from Telltale.
It's not as bad as people say. If you honestly think Telltale will pricedrop this as soon as Sam and Max was, then I'd say you were insane.
Seems like the $19.95 deal on Facebook is over now (or has been taken down), as the banner is no longer there. I'd still like to know how SunnyGuy randomly got the game for $15 though...
say I buy the full game do I get it on the 22nd of Dec or is that still only for PC players? I know that those who want to play the free game wait till Feb, but if you get full game will it be on all platforms that will support it on the 22nd? or is PS3 users gonna have to wait till '11?
The $19.95 deal is still on, just did it via the forum banner -> facebook game -> deal splash page -> order page. Had to follow that order to get it /w the discount price in the cart. Got puzzle agent /w it as well.
I liken this discussion to shopping for anything in life - the type of person I am, if I walk into a department store and buy a DVD for $20.00, and then a couple of days later that store has a sale and the DVD goes on sale for $15.00, I don't complain - because it's a common occurence for most things: Cars; Stereo Equipment; TV's; Property; Clothing; Food - they all go up & down from time to time - sometimes you catch a bargain, sometimes you pay full retail.
When I bought "The Devil's Playhouse", it was at full (non-preordered) cost - and then a week later, it was on sale for half price - for about two seconds, I thought "Bummer" - but then, as other people have said in here previously - I thought it was well worth the price I paid for it at the time, so I can't complain.
No, i just bough the whole game. All 5 episodes with serial number. It gave me an extra $5 off. I did not get the card game. I got the full BTTF game with Puzzle Agent (for free) as my order for $19.95
I too, just bought the game with the cost of 24.95! That is so weird! I hope that i got it for what you did for only 19.95! i am just so excited that i bought the whole game! I cant wait to play it for Christmas on my PC!

Just one question, where in the world did you find that on face book games? i have a face book and I couldnt find that game on there! I believe that i did that but I am not sure!
I stopped preordering as well. But in my case this is more due to that i'm not so much interested in their latest games anymore. If the games come out for a lot less then i might buy it but so it's just not worth the current price tag to me no matter if it's $25 or $20. I can get a bunch of very good games for this money elsewhere.
If i would be really interested in the game i wouldn't mind if i payed $5 more or not. I would primary be happy about that the game will be released. I had zero issues with that i once payed the full price for Machinarium and i simply can't imagine thinking for one cycle about the price if i for instance would be waiting for The DIG II.
But i could imagine feeling kind of pissed if the game is only rating in a soso area to me. But then again i wonder how long some of you have been on this planet or if they are allowed to exit their houses from time to time and gather some experiences. The world is full of controversial marketing strategies. In some areas it's completely normal that early adaptors have to pay more, in others it's the other way around and some mix those strategies according to the current availability of their products or depending on the market situation.
Unless TTG won't change to a pay what you want mentality (which would be cool btw because this way i could pay for each product what i think it's worth to me), i think it's understandable that they don't start with the lowest price tag and afterwards lower the prices for those to whom the games weren't worth the initial prices, as well as they take their chances in a season when you get bombed with sale actions everywhere else.
Anyway maybe it also would help offering two options for TTG's early adopters, #1 the lowest price they think makes sense without the special editions and without the access to the devs conversations and #2 with all these things included but to a higher pricetag. This would be a less radical way than pay what you want but it also could reduce the anger which might come up otherwise.

Are you kidding me? A "bunch?" I'd like to know where you (legally) shop. Even good used games are like $10 a piece. There's no way you can buy a bunch of very good games for $20. Certainly not new releases, and certainly not games of the quality of Telltale. Most new releases are $50, $30 used, and if you're lucky you might find a great deal somewhere for like $20-$25 for one game.
As for the $20 promo price - look people, it happens. While I understand being upset, it is what it is. This isn't something Telltale did to screw over people who bought it at $25. I do think that any orders before a game is released should be a "guaranteed" price however. Once the game is released, it's alright, but during the pre-release stage, there really shouldn't be any way to get the game for less than the $25 price.
In the end, however, I don't believe Telltale owes anyone anything. If you paid the $25, you clearly felt that the price was appropriate or you wouldn't have purchased it. That's the way our economy works. If it had been $50 pre-order price and the special sale price was $25, I could understand a bit more outcry, but it's only $5 off. I bought a TV online once for $1500, and a week later I saw it at a local store for $1200. It would have been a royal hassle to return it to the online store (it was a 47" projection TV that was huge and bulky, and even returning it might have cost $100+ to ship back). That's the way purchasing things sometimes works.
If it bothers you that much, either you need to reassess how much $5 means to you, or you should contact Telltale directly with a well thought out, rational, and intelligent complaint. Ranting and raving on here about how you'll never buy another Telltale product again and stuff like that is ridiculous and it's way over the top.

It would be hard kidding with you as i don't know you but i know how to navigate in the internet, it's sales actions, the iPhone/iPad, ...
I'm not sure what you're saying, but if you're saying that ipad/iphone apps (like, the $5 ones) are of the same ilk as a full, 5 episode telltale release, then you've got a different opinion of games than I do.
Could you give me some examples of a bunch of really good games that would add up to $20 or $25?
Nope, it's all a well hidden secret, which hardly no one knows about, only a few illumiated ones, and we are only allowed to tease people like you with it.
Old games? I'm not considering old games. BTTF from Telltale is a new release. There are plenty of games released today for $50 or more that don't match up to games from the 90s or 2000s, but that doesn't stop new releases from selling and being well liked and well reviewed.
It's like saying you won't go see a new movie in theaters because you can just as easily buy a movie from the 1990s on DVD for less.

Sorry, but my internet sarcasm detector isn't working too well tonight. Could you quit playing coy and just be straightforward with me? I don't think I'm asking a lot here. If you're joking, that's fine, but just let me know because I'm not entirely sure.
Super Meat Boy is an awesome new release. Completely solid game. Price? $15.
So you'd say that game equates to a Telltale game in terms of overall gameplay experience and value? I mean, if we're going to go this far, why not start discussing the value of $25 period - regardless of the genre of entertainment. Maybe for one person, $25 is best spent on a remote control car, and they'd think it's silly to spend $25 on a video game.
My point here is that if we're going to discuss the value of a $25 Telltale game like BTTF, we have to keep the scope limited to video games of a certain genre. I'd say generally you might even have to limit your scope to 3D adventure games.
Comments
Of course they do.

Some people already got it at 15. dollars ... So I'm pretty sure no one's insane right now.
WHAT?!?
Here's a good question. Did you buy the rest of the season at the same time as redeeming the coupon for the free episode by chance?

i remember Alan saying that it will be released in few days after PC/MAC released... and the PSN updates are on every Tuesdays ...
The PSN and iPad versions of the game won't hit until early 2011.
ohh ok thanks
Nope, I redeemed it the month before that.
as in Jan or is it Feb like the people wanting the free one?
