The New Members Thread

edited January 2011 in General Chat
Hello, Telltale fledglings. I am TomPravetz. Welcome to myTelltales site. I noticed we have quite a few members joining the forums, and I thought it would be useful to have a thread specifically for welcoming the new victims slaves Forumites. So, please. Come. Introduce yourself. Say hi. And learn whose side you're on, because in these forums, there are always sides.

Just to get the ball rolling, I will start. Hi. I am TomPravetz. I love TTG more than cookies. And not just any cookies, but really, really good cookies. Oreos! So my goal is to one day work for Telltale, but before that, I just want to be a mod, which you will quickly find out. And be reminded. And reminded. And so on and so forth. I am basically the boss around here, meaning I tell people what to do and am obnoxious, and everyone else ignores my orders and complains about me to each other. So welcome, and I hope you enjoy your stay.

I have only one thing to say to new members.

Welcome to HELL. Get out while you still can.

    This would have worked better.

How about: You're joining the Telltale Forums, ain't ya! You'll never come back again! It's got a death curse! I've got to warn ya. You're doomed if you stay! GO. GOOOO.

It's pitch dark. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

I'm tellin' ya, I wish I had left this place back when I first joined. Y'all have made me a shell of my former self.

For instance, I never said "y'all" a year ago.

Why don't you skip halfway across a street while the lights are against you.

The lights have turned? Why lights? For so long we have fought side by side in the war against darkness, but now you turn on me? This means war. Prepare to be unplugged, b*tch*s.

NOTE: If you are a SpamBot, spammer, or troll, do not bother posting. I already hate you. I'll just sit here and give you the evil eye until some mod or TTG employee bans you. Then I'll laugh.

Only the other hand, if you are here for reasons other then those named above, or their similars, welcome! Try not to get in the Tom v Spam crossfire.

I'm not sure if it's appropriate to tell someone who's standing up for you that you hate them... But I don't care.

Alright, perhaps we should try to avoid complete derailing or filling this thread with tons of nonsensical conversation this time around. We do want new members to actually feel welcome to post in this thread, rather than avoid it.

Right. Sorry. The mix of Fawful and SpamBots got me a little on edge. And it would help if this thread was stickied. *whistles*

    Anyhow, yes, welcome!

You probably have scared away all the new members by now (Especially if this is going to be the first thread they see.) But if any of them are left(weeding out the strong from the weak, wohohoho), then welcome! :D

(Don't trust Fawful. He has the shifty eyes.)

Yes, welcome. And some new person post in here so I don't feel like an ass.

Maybe the old members should introduce themselves first, to make the new members more comfortable (or, more likely, warn them).
  • edited January 2011
HAVE NO FEAR! RELATIVELY NEW MEMBER RETROVORTEX IS HERE!!

    To introduce himself that is.

I am RetroVortex, (sometimes I wish that was my real name...), Mass lurker of the interwebs!

Unfortunately I have decided to choose this forum as one of my settlement forums.
(The other two being the Good Old Games forum, and the Zombie Cow Studios forum. Sometimes you'll find me on The Escapist, but its a very busy forum, and it kind of annoys me)

Like many a good squatter, I am likely to never ever ever ever ever ever LEAVE!!
Coincidently, barring the foil hat, I am just as mad and loud as those lovely Homeless people you see hovering around the bins at the back of the supermarket.

My main passions in life are:

VIDEOGAMES!! YES! YES! OH GOD YES! I love videogames.
They are my main obsession in life, ever since I laid my eyes on a SNES I was hooked.
    (FFFFOOOOOORRRREEEEEVVVVEEERRRRRRR.........)
I can't even list my favourite game, as I literally cannot choose!
I own hundreds of them, and most of the consoles.

Music - Mostly videogame music, and rock, hard rock or Metal.
    Favourite bands are:
    Deep Purple
    Blue Oyster Cult
    Iron Maiden
    Megadeth
    Meatloaf
    Buckethead(solo artist)
    Joe Satriani(solo)

I also love joke musicians such as Tenacious D, Flight of The Conchords, and Jon Lajoie.

I play the guitar, though poorly, and I'm not really all too fussed at learning it quickly, or being too technical about it. Its just something fun to do! :D

Generally love Comedy movies, and sometimes the occasional horror, or fantasy.
No fan of action or drama really.

Cartoons of the 90's are the best, especially the weird ones like Sam and Max, Ren and Stimpy, Freakazoid, and Earthworm Jim.

    Han shot first.
(Star Wars > Star Treck, but only a fan of the movies and games, not going into that extended lore stuff)

Back to games - I also want to make them! but my laziness and poor attention span normall hinder my advancement in that area.

I currently am in the Second year at Uni. I do a Business Managment degree, (most useful course, compared to English and Biology).
I hope to get a placement at Jagex, but I probably won't.

Food - Love it, eat too much of it, and can't really specify a favourite food

Favourite drink - Kopparberg Strawberry and Lime flavour.

Like Strongbad once said... Hello you do not know it yet but I am the reason you are here.

    Why the hell not.

Greetings! I'm GuruGuru214, though most call me Guru. I've been here for a little over a year now, and at the moment I believe I have the 5th highest post count among active posters, behind Avistew, Rather Dashing, Jake, and Irishmile. Not that this means anything other than that I talk a lot and spend more time on here than I should. I also started the longest running thread on the forums, though that doesn't mean anything other than that I anticipated that everyone likes to spout out whatever nonsense they feel like talking about, whether anyone's listening and talking back or not.

I've been a gamer for as long as I can remember and own every Nintendo console there is.

    DSC03361.jpg

See? I also own the full Telltale library, with the exception of Texas Hold'em. Once a year, you'll find me running the Great Monkey Island Race and the Great Sam & Max Race, a speed run competition through every game in each series and a whole lot of fun. Other times, you might find me on other crazy exploits, like running the entire Kingdom Hearts series in chronological order, or cataloging my game collection and then attempting to beat all the games I never finished.

I like to think I'm easy to get along with, as long as you're a reasonable person (unlike Pravetz and Fawful up there), and if you're an unreasonable troll, I'll either ignore you or ridicule you into oblivion.

Welcome to Telltale! Learn the pecking order, bitches!

Dislikes: Rap music, attention seekers, the news, the majority of television programming, and many other things too numerous to list

First adventure game: 'Curse of Monkey Island'

Hi, I'm Hayden - the guy with the incredibly inventive username. Anyway, I live in Australia, have for all of my live; this is both a good and a bad thing.

I joined this forum very shortly after I finished 'Tales of Monkey Island' - "Launch of the Screaming Narwhal" because I had to vent my excitement somewhere :). I ended up staying here because I enjoyed the community feel between not only the users but also the staff and the users, and I also loved discussing Monkey Island (and other games/things).

I've been here for well over a year now, and have racked up quite a few posts (which is something I've come to stop caring about since some of my favourite fellow forumites have only a fraction of the posts of some of the posters of whom I do not hold in very high regard). I'm not sure how much worth or quality lies within the content of those posts, but I like to think I've at least contributed something to this community.

I love many games, especially adventure games, but I love well-crafted action games just as much ('Beyond Good & Evil' being a wonderful example). I also love music, and love discussing it. I like mostly metal and rock music, though I will branch out into other genres occasionally, but I will never listen to music in the top 40 charts (I'm generally ignorant to mainstream music - I couldn't name one song on the Billboard Hot 100). I also enjoy the occasional good book, and I'm currently making my way through the Discworld series.

I am quite the introvert, but I do enjoy others' company. I am generally quite patient, but I will respond to trolls quite harshly from time to time. Anyway, to all future forumites, welcome, and I look forward to seeing you around :).

Well, I suggested the "old members should introduce themselves too" so I might as well go ahead too:

I'm Avistew, but you can call me Avi (or I guess Stew. Some people do.) I prefer handhelds because when I was a kid, I didn't get much chance to play games alone due to having 3 brothers. As soon as I could, I purchased a second hand GameBoy (the bulky grey kind) and a few games (Link's Awakening, Mystic Quest, Mario 2), and could play all I want since the consoles and the games were all mine.
I kept my preference for handhelds, which came in handy when I started moving across the planet back and forth between France and North America, but when I was older and could get my own computer I developed a liking for them as well, for the same reasons.
As a result, I tend to play TV consoles for multiplayer games pretty much exclusively.
Anyways, I like Adventure games and that leads us to Telltale. Out of their series I like Sam and Max the most, although they've been consistently going in a direction I dislike (games more and more movie-like or, as they say, cinematic) which caused me to be much less active on these forums than I used to be, since I pretty much only post in the General forum nowadays.

As far as forum history goes, I'm partially responsible for the Boobies thread's golden days, and mostly to blame for its long drawn-out agony. I'm also the resident knitter (not that I'm the only one who knits, but I seem to do it the most) and I think my reputation as a stalker got somewhat reduced after Yare left. Since that introduction is meant for new member, I should tell you, dear new member, that Yare was a telltale employee and forum member and that a running joke started about my stalking him.
Here is a link to selected posts from the forum discussion that started it all. I made it back when I first heard about Yare leaving to immortalize it, then ended up not using it (Until now!). WARNING: it's big.

First adventure game: Escape From Monkey Island

One of my best friends described me best as-
You're a miserable little weasel who derives pleasure from being a shit.

That's the best intro to myself I could ever give. Oh, he also compared me to Charles Manson once.

I'm an introverted, cynical bastard with a heart of gold who just doesn't care what people think of him. I enjoy pushing people's buttons, being a sophomoric prankster, and making joke after joke and making others look stupid. Or making myself look stupid, either one. I enjoy having friends and being well liked more than I generally let on, but ultimately don't put much effort toward it. I have a bleak, think the worst worldview. My best quality is probably my weird, over the top sense of humor, which has absolutely no off button. That or my artistic abilities. Chances are if I consider you uptight or think you have a rod up your ass, I'm going to tear the shit out of you for it. Just giving fair warning. While I am funny, I'm not generally your average nice, lovable person. I'm quite a bit of an ass and I work hard at it. My personal heroes are the Marx Brothers, B.J. Hunnicutt, and Hawkeye Pierce.

I've been here since 2009 when Tales came out. I lurked around the forum ever since Telltale had a forum, but never really felt like posting here until Monkey Island 5 was announced. This place has turned into my favorite forum, because every person here is usually cool, but also because I can get away with most anything here and the atmosphere is usually less tense than most forums and more relaxed and fun. I also hate Christmas.

Yeah, I might as well. I'm Remolay I've been here for a little over a year. I have no idea whats going on anymore because I've been listening a reading of My Immortal and it causes me pain.

SO my first game ever was Wolfenstein 3D, my first adventure game was Full Throttle, I never beat either.

I enjoy stories that promote literacy, writing, gaming of course, and good music (Music sans autotune, minus Dynamite. I actually like that one for some reason)

I dislike Tara Gillesbie. Seriously, this Fanfic is awful. I dislike Trolls, and I troll them. Bla bla bla, you don't care anymore

I mainly try to be funny and fail.

First adventure game: Myst, I think. Maybe.
First oddly specific category that I made up today: This one.

Descriptive paragraph giving a sense of who I am, or at least who I tell people I am (parenthetical aside for laughs).

    Second, more serious paragraph.

Third paragraph that adds thick layers of crazy. "Unnecessary use of quotation marks". Pseudo-intellectual gibberish that sounded good when I typed it, but reeks of stoner logic upon review the next day.

    Abrupt end.

Honestly Escape is a pretty good adventure game when compared to other franchises.. but its the worst of the MI franchise.

I'm half surprised you stayed with adventure gaming after that experience.

And I'm surprised how much crap the MI community chooses to give a game that wasn't even bad. I'm beginning to think this is just a trend, more than anything, to knock 'Escape...'.
