Hmmm... I'm not convinced yet. First of all I don't have a Playstation 3 ór X-box, second I'd like to know what they plan to add or change. The original was perfect (if a bit short,) I wouldn't want to see it ruïned.

Judging from the cover art, it's another rush job. Which is technically good, because they won't get the chance to ruïn a great game with some pointless changes to "reach a broader audience."

Played it a bit this morning. You don't need to worry. It's not like the Monkey Island remakes where they added new art, it's more like the recent HD releases of God of War, Prince of Persia and Sly Cooper. It's the same exact game, the same exact graphics, they've just been finessed a little so they look sharp on high-def monitors. Nothing's been changed.

I really do hope NOTHING is changed. I don't want to lose the Dutch voice dub. That one was brilliant.

For reference, as far as I can tell, the PC version is already in HD (although apparently not in widescreen?). You can buy it on Steam (but it requires manual configuration changes to work properly) or Good Old Games for $10.

I'm not sure what changes GOG made to get it to work properly without the config changes Steam requires.

Ya played it today it looks exactly the same as the PC Version on Max settings... maybe even a little worse since you can set antialsing anisotropic filtering to max with tessellation at higher than 1080p resolution on PC

tessellation is what they did to the models anyway just check the force tessellation box on your GPU and let it do it.

It looks like they did nothing to the game in the demo. No shader upgrades and the models Textures look the same as the PC version on Max settings.

Not surprised since the xbox 360 and ps3 have about the same Gpu performance as 2004 level PC.

In other words if you got it on PC save your money don't bother with the HD version it's just likey what they tried to pull with prince of persia port the PC version models and textures shaders call it HD and hope nobody notices it until they buy it.

It sounds worse too since they removed Sound blaster and EAX 5.1 since there isn't one and replaced it with a compressed dolby digtal 5.1 soupport and it no longer has special realtime 3d sound distortion effects. It sounds flat and boring now.

I also Have no problem setting it to widescreen montior res.

Very well, that was my angle anyway...

...but what about the new music, what about bonus areas? Seen or heard anything while playing?
  • edited March 2011
What new music? I herd the same music or it changed so little I never noticed.

the demo don't let you play bouns area if ut has any.

I've read a couple of reviews and there hasn't been any word on bonus areas or new music. The music though is no longer compressed.

IF it is outputting in dolby digtal it is compressed.

By nature Dolby Digital AC-3 is a compressed audio format. Less compressed than the last console version maybe but still compressed and the xbox 1 supported real Dolby Digital 5.1and HDTV formats for some games anyway since it had real hardware sound decoding for it and it has the same DVD disc space.. the game is only 1.6 GB anyway on xbox live it had a whole DVD for the 5.1 sound before.

Ps2 and gamecube did not unless you was good at programing a software decoder to do it like EA did getting SSX 3 to do a semi fake DTS 4.1 mix.

Dobly Digtal HD is the only lossless codec and it is still compressed to the master recording.

DTS DTSHD also compressed but less and closer to lossless than dolby digtal and only the Ps3 would have in game DTS since the xbox 360 sound codec does not support in game DTS only Dolby digtal. Doby digital is required for all xbox 360 games even if it is a crap one done by the hardware filling in what they did not.

Right, but in the conventional sense it is not compressed. ;)

Please can somone help! I can't find the game on PSN. Am I being stupid or is this not available to people in the UK?!
  • edited March 2011
XBLA only for the moment, the PSN version will come later.

Cheers. XBox users always get the upperhand! Any idea as to when it might reach PSN?

Talk about nostalgia. I remember being one of the few who reserved a copy of this game.

Still kind of torn between buying the PC version and buying the Xbox version, since apparently they're pretty similar. Any other pros and cons?

if it is just like the original it will control much better with a gamepad.

I can't say much. I have played the PC and PS2 versions only. ;)

However, the mouse controls just felt far more natural to me. It's probably a question of which system you use more...

If you're getting it on PC, get the GOG version. Getting this game without ennerving DRM was the reason I bought it a second time (Granted: I bought this game five times total; but three times as a present ;) ). Even with GOG, you'll have to do some graphic tweaking. Just do exactly what the first thread on the topic in the GOG forum says and you're fine. I'm running BG&E from GOG on Windows 7 64bit with some minor sound problems.

I run the steam-version without any problems.

    I like the Steam-DRM.

I was confused as to whether or not PC was actually getting a new release. I think I will probably get the steam version now after reading this. It's only $10. Looks like I will also have to use a key mapper if I want good gamepad support, and possibly a widescreen hack too.

I would like it more if it didn't have any though ;) Although I have never had any sort of issue, with a ton of purchases.
