May The Fourth Be With You!

edited May 2011 in General Chat
Cause it's that time of year! From it's beginnings as a joke to an unofficial holiday for Star Wars.

Show your love whether as a whole, OT, PT, EU, other medias in rewatching the movies or carrying around a lightsaber or putting on a Vader helmet to scare the kids.

I can't decide whether "Fourth" is an intentional joke or an accidental typo.

Anyways, Adywan's Star Wars:Revisited fan edits are the best. I love the original theatrical version of the Original Trilogy, but they are letterboxed instead of anamorphic widescreen.

Here's a video comparison of Han's rescue of Luke on Hoth for the upcoming Empire:Revisited:

Here's a video comparison of the Death Star attack for Star Wars:Revisited:

Also, the SE's additional changes (especially Jedi Rocks in ROTJ) are stupid and the PT sucks.

Whatever. So May 4th is supposed to be an unofficial Star Wars holiday? Why?

Why do you expect that just because someone is a Star Wars fan that means they ought to keep up with random stuff like that? I've seen Star Wars a bunch of times, and read several EU books. Why then should I know what is so special about May 4th?

You don't have to facepalm at me like I'm a moron or something.
  • edited May 2011
Oh come on, face palm hurts to get but we all deserve it time to time. It's ok, I don't think you're a moron. I think what really got this going was that it's an obvious pun for May The Force Be With You, and it's obviously not a typo, lol as it's been presented that way for a LOOONG time now.

The real pain isn't that it's a trek face palm, it's that it's HIM...

More importantly does anyone know if these films have more edits in them, extra scenes in the films? I can't find any solid information on actual content. Such as a new CGI jabba in A New Hope, things of that nature...
  • edited May 2011
There should be more information about the Blu-Rays released today. We'll wait and see.

Incidentally, has that Empire: Revisited been released yet? I've really been looking forward to it - that comparison video was just... wow.
  • edited May 2011
Yes, I know "May the Force be with you." I still don't know what the fourth or 'that time of year' has to do with it.

On Adywan's fan edits? He took CGI Jabba back out of A New Hope.

Of course, given that Greedo already talked to Han about Jabba, and given that Jabba is a crime boss (and crime bosses are known for sending others, like Greedo, to do the dirty work for them,) Jabba shouldn't have needed to be there anyway.

More information about ANH:Revisited can be found at fanedit.org and the originaltrilogy.com forum. The movie is free, not-for-profit and should only be obtained if you have bought a copy of the official movie. There are various formats (.avi; single-layer/dual layer PAL/NTSC DVD) available from various places, which can be linked to from Fanedit.info

More information about ESB:Revisited (which has not as yet been released) can also be found at the original trilogy.com forum (on a different thread). It's not finished yet, but there is a clip of the first 16 minutes on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjfECy6kW2Y

"May the Fourth" sounds like "May the Force." I have solved the mystery for you.

I appreciate your fan edits, but this is really about the new bluray release.

    Peace...

Obviously. That doesn't answer the question, though.

Ohh. [/care about Star Wars on Bluray]

    Okay then.

Where's the love, people!? On this glorious occasion, we should join hands and sing, not fight!

Kidding. I never liked Star Wars. Have at it, folks, I'ma go make some popcorn. :p

I didn't say I don't care about Star Wars. I said I don't care about Star Wars on Bluray.

That is to say, George Lucas is fleecing the fans for money by further ruining a wonderful franchise with his stupid changes, and I want no part of it.

If there's supposed to be some upcoming news about SW on Bluray today and I didn't know about it, then so be it. I don't care.

What's so special about the fourth of may? :p
Doesn't really work over here. There should be an unofficial Doctor who day though. I suggest 26/06. The date the universe ended.
  • edited May 2011
EVERY day is Doctor Who day.

...dammit, now I have diabetes. Thanks ShaggE. I'm sending you the hospital bill.

Blu-Ray's are due in September. Don't know if anyone knew that or not.

But that's why. That's why it's Star Wars day. Because it sounds like the thing people in Star Wars say. It isn't any deeper then that.

An obvious answer, hence the facepalm.
  • edited May 2011
No it's not. Obviously I didn't remember that today was May 4th, nor did I at all know that there something going on today of any importance whatsoever to Star Wars.

Anyone can tell it sounds like "May the Force be with you." I already knew that, I'm not stupid. I was confused about the date's importance, not the play on words and I don't consider that as being worthly of a facepalm since I don't regularly follow SW news.

You could have just said something like "Well, there's more information about SW on Bluray coming out on the fourth" and that would have answered my question. Obviously.

The blu rays aren't going to have more changes i believe

The first line of the first post of this thread is:
Cause it's that time of year! From it's beginnings as a joke to an unofficial holiday for Star Wars.
You don't actually have to know anything about SW beyond "May the force be with you" besides actually reading the first line of the thread you're answering to. After that anybody still not able to "decide" whether "fourth" is a typo or something SW- and date-related deserves a facepalm. It's as easy as that. ;)

Wow, this got off topic quick. From a celebration of Star Wars (which isn't really worth celebrating these days, if you ask me) to an argument about the meaning of May the 4th. Can you say derailed?

Blu-Rays are released September 12th internationally and September 16th in North America. There's gonna be over 40 hours of bonus material, which'll be on 3 additional discs (and, I believe, is only available with the Complete Saga), and all six films will have two commentaries.

    Now stop arguing! :D
  • edited May 2011
released internationally before being released in america? How does that make sense
  • edited May 2011
Also, they have really neat box art, which is what's important.
  • edited May 2011
Do you really like that boxart?

Honestly I don't at all... they look too much like fanart to me. Especially the "Complete Saga" artwork looks just terrible... I mean, just look how crummy the homestedt is painted. And booger-green for the prequels?

I really don't understand why Lucas didn't get Drew Struzan for these... he always works out of retirement for his friends.
  • edited May 2011
Booger green seems appropriate for the prequels.
  • edited May 2011
Looking closer at the covers, you're right. They don't seem that great. I actually thought the Complete Saga looked pretty good until you showed it here, when the truth was revealed.

The problem with the two trilogies is that, odd colour choices aside, they're way too cluttered. Every single bit of free space has stuff crammed into it, and it just looks messy That's why I thought I liked the Complete one, which is much bolder in its simplicity. But the artwork on that one seems far too simplistic and doesn't do either trilogy justice.

Why couldn't they just have a starfield with the Star Wars logo on it? That would be far more effective.

Sorry. I just wanted to post in this thread. And as new Drew Struzan posters would be about the only reason I'd buy the Blu Ray set, well... :D

why is yoda the main attraction on the prequel trilogy cover. They should make it anakin so both covers mirror each other

There are so many fanarts of this dreaded franchise, I think Lucas can't find a better idea than using them to advertise his latest product of the sameoldthing.

You see, Yoda is the main character of the Phantom Menace though.

This took me 30 seconds to find.

    Star-Wars-Complete-Saga-Poster-star-wars-425795_1440_982.jpg

Would that not look awesome on the cover?

(Sorry for stretching the size of the window, couldn't find a smaller version)
  • edited May 2011
^Only if it didn't throw the most important spoiler in your face, that would be great. You might think there is NO inhabitant of earth that does not know Vader is, in fact,
    Anakin
, but I assure you there are.

Come to think of it, yeah, that would be the perfect cover. At least this image on the cover would emphasize the fact that they want to sell the movie to the people who've already seen it for like 15 times or more.

EDIT: Largo's edit looks too crummy, though.
