Free Broken Sword: Director's Cut(and other exciting GOG deals)

edited October 2011 in General Chat
When the counter on GOG.com's front page reaches 6 million, Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars Director's Cut will be made free for 48 hours.

GOG is also running a promo on their D&D game catalog(up to 60% off, and they're using a new promo system that incrementally raises your savings percentage with each game added). The price of The Witcher 2 has been permanently slashed to $39.99, and a promo will run on the 29th that will temporarily slash the price even further to $29.99.

Oh my god that's awesome seeing that Broken Sword is the best game in the history of the universe! I always have problems with my old CD version of Broken Sword so this will be great! And the counter is already on 5,8 million so it probably won't be long.

If you don't pick up Broken Sword whilst it's free, you're very probably a bad person.
  • edited September 2011
Also, the person to make the 6 millionth download gets a very special surprise.
  • edited September 2011
the counter is going up. But it's always the same time interval.
  • edited September 2011
Apparently the data overloaded it. Now it just increments every 4 seconds. You can refresh to get the current count, though. But it's again inaccurate until you refresh again. Hopefully they make it real-time again.

    What free game where?
    Sweet:D
Also, to a noob, what is GOG? I know it sells games, but I remember hearing something else about it, like it only sells older games. Is that true?
EDIT:Oh hey download the free games to help the counter go up.

Want want WANT! Oh man, best news I've heard all day. :D

I started the series with BS2 and eventually got the DS version of BS1, without realising it didn't have the voice acting. Still enjoyed it on DS, but I cannot WAIT to play it in all its wondrous glory!

I like free things, and I LOVE Broken Sword! It's like some marvellous chimera of good stuff!

I own the discs or Rollercoaster Tycoon and Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 already, but if I buy them digitally will I still be able to use my old saves? I don't like being forced to put the disc in and $12 isn't too bad.

Actually, after looking around on GOG, I really want to get Planescape Torment as well. WHY MUST I BE TEMPTED THIS WAY?! I have no time for game playing!
  • edited September 2011
I have purchased so many games on GOG that I haven't gotten around to playing yet. I'm insane.

Looking forward to free Broken Sword, though! Download, people, download!
  • edited September 2011
This is going to take a while isn't it?
  • edited September 2011
Huh...well, I've got four games that I haven't downloaded yet... but I'd have to remember how to switch to my windows partition...bleh. I'll do it when we're almost at six million, in the vain hope of being number six million.

I cannot tell if you're being sarcastic or not. GoG stands for Good Old Games, so yeah, only older games....around pre-2005 or so from what I can tell...besides The Witcher 2.

And everything is completely DRM-free (though that doesn't necessarily mean copy protection free, in the case of Sierra games, for instance, since copy protection is hard-coded and/or scripted right into the games). Buy, download and keep forever without online authentication. You can also redownload as many times as you want.

Yeah I wasnt sarcastic, Ive never used GoG in the past. That does sound cool though with older games.

Urgh, I really want to pick up Neverwinter Nights Diamond, and to some extent, Planescape: Torment, but I'm too tapped out after Nan Desu Kan.

By the end of this weekend, I will have finally caved and dished out the cash for Baldur's Gate 1 and 2. No idea when I'll have time to play them, but I'll feel happier knowing that I have them in my library. Maybe I'll play a little bit as a treat for not dying during my midterms or something. Or leave them as an incentive for finishing grad school applications.

    Oh dear.

I got pretty much everything from GOG now...

(I currently have 193 titles including free stuff. God knows how I could ever play any of them, but I've always been a Gamer who has wildly fluctuating tastes)

Well I should get some dough tomorrow.

Guess I'll get Wing Commander III and Ultima 5+6.

(I already got Broken Sword, would be nice to get something else, but eh, I got loads so its no biggie)

FYI, it looks like it's going to hit 6 mil sometime this morning.

I'm doing my part. I just downloaded Myst and Riven. I'm still sitting on copies of The Witcher, The Longest Journey, Fallout, and Fallout 2, but I think I'll just stick with the two for now.
  • edited September 2011
Aww...I was hoping it would last until tomorrow evening. Then, I could participate as I have promised myself that I will not touch anything to do with gaming until my midterm is over.

One count every 2.5 seconds. If this continues, the described deal starts in a little over two hours.

    Aaaaaaaaaand it's up.

    It's up, by the way.

I'm always surprised when I go to GOG because I always forget the games I have there from promotions and stuff. I really don't even know why I have Martian Memorandum

It's available free for 2 days, so you've still got plenty of time.

Actually, they could both be broken if you consider the story from Minish Cap.

I was tempted to go there, but I decided to go for the crappy Photoshop instead.
