My son is gonna be Link for Halloween.
This is what we have so far.. the Sword is chopped up from a cheap foam sword I found I shortened and shaped it to match better... the shield was made from layers of foam board paint and foil tape (Yeah I know its not game accurate, he and I came up with our own design)... the Hat and Tunic are not finished yet they need some sewing still... the under shirt and pants are stand ins until I can find the right colored ones.. the boots are final.

I think you're a great dad and you have a son to be proud of!
(in all seriousness though that's adorable)
complete stranger hugging a small boy... that's not at all creepy...
Great Job
WIND WAKER!!!!
That looks great! Although, it does appear as though he has a "my dad made me dress up like this. I don't even know what Zelda is" look to him!
My parents actually did that with me when I was about your son's age. They made me dress up in a maids outfit and pose for a picture. Needless to say, I was not happy.
I'm sure that's not the case though, just saying is all.
He looks awesome and I bet he'll say "Best Halloween Ever!"
Musicallyinspired ... I do have that as well as all sorts of music on my phone.
Maybe a little... I think he looks like a blend of his mom and I...
... you don't say?! Funny that!
By the way, when are you guys going to start the Halloween art thread?
...
I like you
...
It's got that vibe know what I mean....?
....
Awesome family you got there man! Thanks for sharing.
I was thinking more this one.
Adorable outfit! I remember when I was a kid and dressed up as Link. Of course, this was in the 80's, and the cartoon was around...so it was more "Excuuuuuuuse me, princess!" than "HYAA!" My grandpa even made me a wooden sword that looked like the one from the show. I was so sad when the cross-guard broke.
The boots are too simplistic; they don't look at all like the traditional leather boots, and the costume also needs gauntlets, an arrow quiver and a sheath for the sword.
Like this:
Other than that the costume looks adequate though.
Wow. That's a pretty way over the top level of nitpicking for a young kid's Halloween costume. The man's not designing clothing for Zelda the Movie or anything, yeesh.
It's an awesome costume and far cooler then anything my parents made for me to wear as a kid.
The costume is all right and will probably do the job, but I'm under no obligation to give positive feedback if it's not warranted. If you don't want criticism, then that should be stated in the OP to begin with.
I'm merely saying that if I were making a Link costume, then I'd do it properly.
The Shield we did stray the most on... you are right about that... but no we were not going for the Hylian shield there either.. we were going for this one its the Hero's Shield
and then half way through decided to make our own design.. because afterall Link has had so many ... the Hylian Shield is just the one everyone thinks of first
The Sword is based off the Hero's Sword.. (not the master sword)
and of course the outfit was as close to the Hero of Wind (wind waker) as our abilities could get us.
The main reason we picked Wind Waker link was because my son Likes him in Smash Bros and the DS games... and two I knew there was no way we could pull off Ocarina of time Link (Hero of time) or Twilight Princess Link (Hero of being right handed).
it's a kid's halloween costume
goodness gracious
this isn't /cgl/
Toon Link or classic Link are really the best choices for a kid's Halloween Costume. Simpler detailing, easier to work with.
I've played Wind Waker a couple of times, but not the biggest fan of Toon Link though I am familiar with him.
Your son looks really happy with it.
When I see these kind of pics I wonder if I'll ever have a son to do these things with.
I hope you live in a part of the world where this stuff gets accepted.
I remember dressing up as Link when I was fourteen, when the dutch Holiday "Carnaval" was going on. People just laughed at me, and thought I was a nerd, being dressed as a video game character.
I did wear the Ocarina of Time outfit though, although it wasn't as good a match as your Wind Waker outfit.
(No, I don't have any photo's of it.)
I get the joke you made, however it brings to my mind the perception that many (most?) people have that Twilight Princess was made specifically for Wii and Link is therefore right-handed... rather than that the game was in fact initially made for GameCube with a left-handed Link, and that the Wii port was entirely flipped horizontally to accommodate right-handed gamers without creating clipping issues.
Not that it matters much considering how little the direction of your swipes with the remote mattered in Twilight Princess.
I don't recall it ever truly being so in the first place.
