for a kid using a rifle! you would think that it would give them a kick to knock them on their butts?
That's what happened then. Child soldiers aren't that common, and all across ages, aren't big of a threat.
EDIT:All right, as fun as this was I'm off for the day. Lets see how long this thread lasts at the rate its going.
Quite true. I first went shooting at a fairly young age and was perfectly okay with using pistols and rifles. Shotguns gave me a bit of difficulty, but only in the sense that I was unable to aim straight since it was too heavy.
I don't want to say too much. Because I'll come off badly. But seriously the shit being clowned on in this thread is ridiculous. This thread shouldn't exist. There are kids being kidnapped and forced to be soldiers. And we're clowning about that shit in a message thread.

Well what else is there? This thread will solve nothing for against Kony 2012. Advertising the video is useless, and the governments really shouldn't get involved unless we have confirmed evidence that Kony will launch his children army at us or our allies. This is Uganda's problem.
Other countries have had rulers like this before. To be even more specific, other African countries have had rulers like this before. What bothers me is how naive and uneducated most of the people are who have been circulating this video. Is this shocking and awful? Yes it is, but do you know what's more shocking and awful? The fact that this keeps happening over and over again.
One topic that I am very knowledgeable in is international killers and general criminals. This is not the first time, this will not be the last time, and this is not even the worst by a long shot. It is sad that this one guy is being singled out because of a viral video while so many others are being ignored. If you're going to care about what is occurring outside your own country, please do some research and read about the great many abominations which have been and are still occurring. Just don't pretend. Don't jump on some bandwagon because some friend on facebook posted a video on their wall and act like you're trying to save the world.
I came in expecting rational discussion. But the lack of empathy, common sense, and humanity in this thread is astounding. I've lost a lot of faith in this community, I must say.
How about action? How about doing something about it? The oppressed and abused don't want empathy or to know you feel bad for them. How about someone draft a letter to the UN concerning this instead of commenting "OMG this is awful" or making stupid jokes on a video.
If you want to help people, do something(a general statement not directed at MI). Remember SOPA? Remember how there were petition sites made that sent letters to congress? I'm not saying that's the reason things halted, but it's sure was a much better approach than when people were screaming and waving their arms around while swearing.
My anger wasn't even really meant for anyone here. I didn't even read all the posts, but I've seen this topic brought up over and over on youtube and facebook....and yeah, like those comments are really going to do anything constructive.
It's difficult to have a rational discussion when there really isn't a clear picture of the issues at stake here. What we've got is a thirty minute video that presents a very black and white picture. I personally, am suspicious of such a video. Then we have the other side, refuting most of the claims in this video. I haven't the slightest notion who's correct here.
I'm sure we can all agree that Kony is bad. But I have to ask what the Ugandan government has been doing this entire time and why anyone thinks that American advisers will be any better at catching this guy than the military that actually knows the area and the tactics he's employed.
Basically, I feel like we haven't been told the entire story. We don't know the politics, the area, or even if Kony is still at large. What if we go to all this trouble catching him and the second he's gone, someone else just steps in and takes his place? What if the governments are even worse than the warlords? Not saying we shouldn't do anything, but this whole plan seems rather short-sighted in it's goals with no plans for the future.
I'd like a longer video that doesn't feel the need to "simplify the issues" for its stupid American audience.

Well, Idi Amin ruled for a good 8 years(and his vast crimes spanned much longer) before he was removed from power. It does appear the US are now fully on board with Kony's removal and to be honest, I think Amin is part of the reason they are acting so quickly after this became public news. The incident in the 70's was very embarrassing for a lot of Uganda's trade partners(primarily in Europe) and I really wouldn't be surprised if more countries jump on board for this reason. As I previously stated, there is oppression and abuse in many places around the world. As much as I'm glad someone is doing something which appears to help(from what information we've seen), it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth that other crimes in other countries are being all but ignored because of the lack of a strong public opinion.
I'm not saying the video isn't suspicious or that talk isn't cheap, I'm just saying people are taking something extremely lightly that could very well be extremely serious. It's just inappropriate. Bad taste. Bad form. Disgusting. Take your pick. There used to be higher standards around here. The content in this thread looks like something out of 4chan or something. Treating it as a hilarious meme.
But it is a hillarious meme. Not because the issue is hillarious but because how people react to it is. I heard this name from a lot of youtubers I subscribed to. Even TGWTG made a joke about it. But they didn't promote it. They just used it for a joke. A joke that everyone should understand because this topic is spreading like wildfire.

I agree we are better then this.. I apologize to those of you trying to have a mature conversation but jokes about the rape and abuse of children is not something I am ok with... So I am locking this up.

Yes...yes they did use guns. Firearms where invented in the 16th century..so yes they would use fire arms.
So it's not even that long ago that we had child soldiers.
And I'm willing to bet that they didn't charge into battle with their homemade slingshots.

If they where getting shot at then firearms would have been invented.

All Depends on the rifle.

so nobody makes another thread like it, so anyways Joseph Kony is *** let's just put it that way!
Special forum magic.
good point there! He gives duties to poor innocent lives of children.
He has an Official breakfast cereal. He kidnapped Snap Crackle and Pop to be the mascot.
I'm not sure if you're a troll, or being ironic. I kind of hope it is one of those two.
Anyway, I agree with the general spirit behind the campaign, but the lack of critical thinking by some people is disturbing.
I am 18. Why?
Okay, I just reread the original post. What the fuck?
I think you kinda missed the entire point of the video here.
Truth be told I'm annoyed no one got the joke.
Maybe that's what the test actually was. This entire thing was a psych evaluation!
I'VE SOLVED IT! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
