I'm not quite sure how that works, but the link doesn't work without it. I think the problem lies in the subdomain for each server on imageshack. So, if there's an issue with the subdomain, pointing to the file directly on the main domain will solve the issue (luckily it seems to be a DNS (or possibly code) issue rather than a server issue).
I've never found a link where the /a/ doesn't work, so I'm not sure if that letter really means anything, other than maybe meaning a for alternate server (but that's just a guess). But, if that's not constant after all, and if you do find one that doesn't work, it couldn't hurt to try other letters of the alphabet.

The thing is that some of the missing pictures don't even display the "media not available" picture. For example, in Part 1, right at the start, above the text that reads "Our saving grace comes in the form a very ungraceful entrance..." there should be a picture of Sparky standing in a bathtub but there's nothing there, not even the "media not available" picture!
Basically, Changing the link to the "a" technique only seems to work for the pictures that have the "media not available" picture.
I'm baffled.

P.P.S. If I can't get this to work then I've decided not to throw my toys out of the pram and instead replay the game, take the relevant screenshots and use a different server that's not a piece of shit. I've come too damn far to throw the towel in at this stage dag nab it!
You know my troubles with PhotoBucket, but I've started using imgur and I've had no issues so far. Might be worth a look.

The picture in question is http://imageshack.us/a/img848/3378/28735796.jpg. In a browser, if referred to in a page, it shows up either empty or as a broken image. I tried a curl of it (a nice thing about being on a Linux PC) and got:

Switching it back into http://img848.imageshack.us/img848/3378/28735796.jpg format and clicking on it brings up a "This photo has been removed" image. So either it got deleted, or it has some permission problems. (Maybe it never worked to begin with?) Are you able to log on with your account and see a complete list of your pictures?
Yeah, with imageshack I recently lost an image there (I don't put as many pictures up there, though), and had no idea why. And not only could I not post it or find it anywhere, but when I attempted to reupload it, I couldn't do that either. Had to go take another picture and upload that.
