    2. Oscar D'Onofrio
    3. Alex DeLarge
    4. John Doe
    5. Keyser Soze

Two of them are protagonist villains though.

    3. Johan Liebert (Monster) - Pride
    4. AM (I Have No Mouth, But I Must Scream) - Wrath

Majin Buu could be gluttony but no one likes him.

I could be wrong, but when did the The devil become a deadly sin?

    And for gluttony?

You win, but it was more The Devil AND the Seven Deadly Sins since The Joker didn't fit any of the sins themselves. However, I did think of a Gluttony- Count Dracula.

    1. Iago, Macbeth, Richard III (Shakespeare could easily monopolize the whole list, so in the interest of fairness, his best villains get to share the top spot)
    2. Maleficent - Sleeping Beauty (easily Disney's top baddie, back when they made genuinely scary baddies)
    3. Magneto - X Men (a villain who's almost sympathetic...until, say, he commits mass genocide)
    4. Michael Corleone - The Godfather (great because we're right there with him until we finally realize what he's become)
    5. Al Swearengen - Deadwood (in any other town he'd be a pure villain but in Deadwood, sometimes he manages to almost be the hero)

    Honorable mentions -
    The Joker
    John Doe
    Randall Flagg

  • Why do you think you’re at the top of the list?
  • edited July 2012
    1.) Lex Luthor
My favorite villain of all time. The scope of Luthor's evil is due to his insanity. Unlike other villains, he's not insane. He knew exactly what he was doing when he: Killed his father to acquire money to start up his company; Killed his wife to have the sole affection of his daughter; Sent the genetically created woman he loved on a suicide mission. Lex is smart, and while physically inferior to the superhumans around him still manages to not only compete against the strongest (Superman) but also manipulates and runs gangs of supervillains that include the Joker (every DC crossover ever). His mastery of the world around him, the sanity he keeps his insanity wrapped in, has given him the presidency as well as ownership of the world's most profitable corporation. Of all my villains, he may have the most to show for his efforts.

    2.) Johan Liebert
It's a rare day someone takes a child to see a prostitute be raped and killed, simply for the sake of corrupting innocence. He also killed the parents who raised him. He is a master manipulator who as a young boy orchestrates the death of 50 people and continues to manipulate people into heinous acts of violence.

    3.) The Joker
Let's see. He killed Gordon's wife AND he paralyzed his daughter, not to mention killed the second Robin (don't give me that return of Robin crap, he was gone for two decades). Oh wait, and he made a bank manager masturbate to a picture of his own daughter before killing him. Joker demonstrates no remorse; in fact there's no sure guarantee he understands the concept, or whether he even fully understands the implications of his heinous actions.

    4.) Kefka
The greatest Final Fantasy villain of all time. Unhindered by mommy issues, and unhinged by magic/science hybrid experiments, Kefka betrayed the ruler of an empire at the apex of the man's conquest. He rearranged the face of the world, tore cities apart, committed mass genocide of a species, poisoned the water source of an entire city. And he did it all while laughing. He's essentially the Joker of the video game world.

    5.) Darth Vader
First of all, the prequels and EA don't count. The only Star Wars that matters is the original trilogy, not the bastard, shambling creation we've been left with since every writer in the world was allowed to touch the material. In the original trilogy, Vader was an unstoppable force of darkness, a killing machine feared throughout the Galaxy. Disappointing him meant execution, regardless of military rank. He walked boldly and confidently through battle fields, was a fearless pilot and warrior, and never showed remorse for his actions. Only his flesh and blood son was able to turn him to good.

You should read the Karen Traviss novels, especially the Darth Vader short stories. Lekauf had great admiration for Vader and while he was a Sith Lord Darth Vader was far from the most evil villains. For example, Vader never asked his men to do something he wouldn't do himself. In fact he was never pure evil and he redeemed himself at the end.
There are far more ruthless villains in the Star Wars universe like Darth Bane, Abeloth and Nom Anor. Nom Anor should actually be on the list because he is undoubtedly one of the coolest villains of all time.
And Darth Sidious of course, who planned the downfall of the Jedi and the Republic for more than 30 years, when he became senator. You should read "Darth Plagueis", then you'll understand in more detail the scope of all the ingenius planning Palpatine did.

Oh and you can't just look at the original trilogy, because it doesn't tell the whole story. You have to take all of the EU into consideration.

No I don't. I've read the EA, and 95% of it is Space Opera garbage. If Kevin J. Anderson never writes again, the world will sing songs of celebration. And you're missing the point: Darth Vader is a symbol, not a complex human being. He is a symbol of death. Of destruction. That's all he was when there was only Star Wars: A New Hope and that's about all he was until Return of the Jedi. Everything since has tried to 'modernize' Darth Vader. That's like trying to modernize Grendal. He's a symbol of destruction, the hammer. And once you try to make him something more than a symbol you're leaving behind part of what made Star Wars so special, in that it was genius, science fiction mythology. Everything afterward has been psychobabble, pseudo politico-military nonsense.

I'll agree most of the books in the Empire/New Republic era are quite dull but that's only because all the information wasn't available when they were written. The books written after 2005 are the best in the history of the universe though. Have you even read Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi?

I'm not gonna force you to like the EU. But you can't just ignore the EU either and isolate the original trilogy. That's not how the game is played.

I know I haven't been on a lot lately, but I'm honestly upset that I'm not included on this list.

I mean seriously, dude. I once almost single-handedly destroyed an entire forum by pretending to be seven different people murdering each other. If that's not sufficiently nefarious, I don't know what is.

    In no particular order:
    Saren Arterius (Mass Effect)
    The Joker (The Dark Knight)
    Dracula (Van Helsing)
    Andrew Ryan (BioShock)
    The Marker (Dead Space)

And this... This is the greatest villain of all:
    M. Night Shyamalan (The Last Airbender)
