Good roller coasters

I’m going on a vacation in a few days to go to all the major amusement parks in America to ride some of the best roller coasters around. Does anyone know any good ones, just to make sure I don’t miss any?

The obvious one is the Hulk coaster at Universal Studios. I went on it and freakin' loved it. If you're near Florida, check it out. Also, the Rock 'n' Rollercoaster at Disneyland is pretty good.

And we want pictures! Proof or it didn't happen.

The Millennium Force at Cedar Point was always a favorite of mine.

Do you know if the Universal Studios in California has that rollercoaster, or is it just the one in Florida?

Also, unless I'm really mistaken and this is something from Toon Town, I don't think Disneyland has the Rock'n'Rollercoaster. Maybe Disneyworld?

No idea, I've only been to the Florida one.

And I may be getting my Disney Lands mixed up. So many... Pretty sure Rock'n'Rollercoaster is at one of the Disney Parks in Florida though. If not, it is an absolute travesty.

Bizarro at Six Flags New England in Massachusetts is a good one. For classic roller coasters, Viper at Darien Lake in New York is good too. It was the first roller coaster to have five inversions when it opened in 1982, and it's still exhilarating.

It's probably at Disneyworld. I go to Disneyland on a semi-regular basis, and I've never seen it there. There is a pretty nice rollercoaster at California Adventures, but I can't remember what it was called.

One of the greatest rollercoasters was Space Mountain in Disneyland Paris. This greatest thing in the world had an orchestral soundtrack playing during the ride that adjusted to the specific area of the coaster you just experienced.

Then they revamped it. Took out the glorious Jules Verne theme. Called it "Mission 2". It's the same ride essentially, but the flavor is all gone. THE BASTARDS.

I quite like the Mission 2 theme song. I always find myself singing along with it. But then again, I don't think the Calfornia Disneyland ever had the theme song you mentioned... either that I don't remember much from the only time I rode Space Mountain before they revamped it.

I was pretty terrified of rollercoasters as a kid.

California indeed never had that track:
Originally, Space Mountain [California] did not have a Synchronized On-Board Audio Track (SOBAT), but after the completion and success of Space Mountain: De la Terre à la Lune at Disneyland Paris, a soundtrack arranged by Dick Dale was added to the ride in 1996.

The one I linked to, on the contrary, was by another composer (JAG, Young Indiana Jones Chronicles):
The audio track was written by Steven Bramson and was in keeping with the Victorian theme. Unlike other Space Mountains found around the world, this version [Paris] has a grander and more detailed appearance, with a huge dominating Columbiad Cannon and a plate and rivet exterior, in keeping with Discoveryland's retro-futuristic theme.

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster is indeed at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida.

Cedar Point is a definite place to check if you're interested in roller coasters.

I've never been on the Giant Dipper, but I've been on other wooden rollercoasters.

My question to you is this: have you ever been on a wooden rollercoaster? They are so different from steel roller coasters. As it gets older, it throws you around in your seat. The wood relaxes over time, and it causes the path of the steel track to be slightly less smooth. It's still safe, of course, as it's just a very slight shift, but it's very noticeable when you ride it.

Some people love the feeling of being banged around, some people hate it. If you think you'd like being thrown around like a piece of popcorn in a popcorn popper, then you'd probably like it. Otherwise, stay clear of it. :)
  • Yes, I have. The Boulderdash at Six Flags.

It would be interesting if it could get you from one end of the mall to the other. As long as your purchases don't fall out on the way.

That would probably make it a really boring ride. Unless your purchases were being transported separately on another set of rails.

That would be awesome. You could be doing colossus-style corkscrews round a rail carrying your luggage.
