She's a smart woman - understands people well, and she sees Lee as a leader. I wanna be alpha male goddammit, not play second fiddle to emo Kenny and gung-ho Lilly.
After going through a Doug playthrough he's definitely resourceful and likeable.
Still, Carley saved both Duck's and Clem's life with her shooting, as well as making the legless zombie fight at the beginning of EP2 a whole lot easier for the same reason.
I think Doug's problem was that TTG gave Carley way too much to do and alot more interaction in EP1. Carley was a reliable scout and sharpshooter while Doug was a relative unknown with pretty few lines.
All boils down to whether you want defense or offense in your zombie survival party.
I fear far too many people saved Carley; the reasons why are likely both demographic and some perceived prescience about repopulation. I saved Doug; I didn't need to think twice about it.
Doug saved Carley's life. He's a hero. We wouldn't need to make a choice between their lives without hi
. Doug has a very specific skill in his technological expertise. Carley can shoot accurately. After episode 2, I know for a fact that Kenny is a crack shot, and no one else in the group is as tehnologically proficient as Doug.
I made the right decision, and Doug's proving it to me.
Doug has a very specific skill in his technological expertise. Carley can shoot accurately. After episode 2, I know for a fact that Kenny is a crack shot, and no one else in the group is as tehnologically proficient as Doug.
To add to this, I think it is elaborated upon in the game that Lilly forces them all to train with their Marksmanship (I forget where exactly...). So Carly's skill becomes less of a commodity, whereas Doug will always have his tech skills to add to his value.
I find it amusing how people talk about Doug's "technical expertise" when all he did in Episode 1 was to reprogram a universal TV remote. Sure, that's some very specific knowledge - but that still doesn't tell you anything about his general usefulness in other situations. Programming some remote doesn't make him a new MacGyver or means he can fix anything technical or invent new gadgets or whatever.
I saved Carly, because:
*) she had a gun - in fact, the only gun in the group I was aware of. Now I don't know how hard it is to come by guns in the post-zombie-apocalypse version of the USA ... probably a lot easier than it would be here in Germany. Still, I didn't want to lose that gun.
*) I figured she MIGHT be able to help save Doug with that gun. Of course, knowing how games typically work, that whole situation kinda telegraphed to you that you'd only be able to save one of them... but I did have that tiny hope to actually save both that way.
*) She's female. No, I don't look forward to repopulate the planet, but children and women simply go first when it comes to saving. Sorry, Doug.
*) I just knew her better than Doug. He was just the guy standing at the door I had a quick chat with and didn't knew very well except his TV-remote-programming skills and that he - somehow - saved Carley before. I liked him, but at the end I was just much closer to Carley than him.
After Carley all but threatened Lee in the back room of the convenience store... I knew then and there that, if I had anything to say about it, her days were numbered.
I chose Carley, partly because she had a gun, she got on well with Lee, and she handled herself very well with saving glen.
Anyways, if there was a chance to save both of them, you would go for Carely first, as she, wouldn't take as long to help as doug, and should have been able to help doug from a distance.
I'm going to have to do a playthrough with Doug though.
I wish we could have sacrificed somone like larry though, in exchange for both Doug and Carley. Where was Larry anyway? Running off while we held against zombies.
Yep, my initial save for Doug was because Carley had a gun, but after it I did think she was a dafty, with the whole radio episode and the bullets in the purse.
Carly is trustworthy, supportive, loyal, and calm in high-pressure situations. If Lee were ever to lead the group, she would be his perfect lieutenant. Doug's a good guy, but if I'm charging the gates of hell, I'd want Carly with me.

Technically true, but her calm attitude is pretty much useless without her gun (we see this directly when she is grabbed by the one walker).
Doug may panic, but he also can be innovative and helpful BEYOND shooting things (he builds the warning system, and saves Lee's life with a LASER POINTER, for gosh sakes!).
Both Carley and Doug have positive and negative attributes about them that are worth saving, we just don't really get a chance to see Doug's shine until episode 2.
I saved her because she knows how to use a gun. When E2 came out, I played my Doug playthrough first and consider him to be my canon survivor for that decision. Carley's emotional support for Lee is great, but I'd rather play a survivor with baggage than a well adjusted corpse.
i saved her because she seemed to be thrustworthy. sure, doug was nice but he just didn't seem to fit in the group that well. and carly knows how to use a gun for gods sake. she already saved lee and that's enough to make the decision a right one. and in episode two she seems to be a good companion, if not the most loyal of all of the rest of the group. so, carly was the right choice for me.
1. Carly's hot.
2. She handles the gun like a cowboy.
3. There's no doubt in her choice to stay mum on Lee's shady past.
4. She actually cares about Clem.
5. Killing Doug could make her a love interest- since she liked Doug- and not saving him made him zombie chow.
6. She saves Lee's life in the pharmacy by popping bathroom zombie in the head after he goes to Clem's rescue.
*Spoilers*
In Episode 2 you see how Carly has Lee's back.
-She doesn't complain if you don't feed her (although I always give her the apple), and if you feed her a food item besides the apple, she insists that Lee keep it for himself.
-She's actually the one to suggest Lee as being leader of the group in Episode 2 (although I never understood why Lee doesn't have the balls to make himself leader, maybe a concept for future episodes).
-She saves your life yet again at the end of Episode 2.
-She repays the favor of fetching batteries for your electronic this time!
I can think of 3 reasons why to kill Doug.
1. He actually memorized television codes well enough to program them into a universal remote on a whim!
2. He wears socks with Birkenstock sandals, and a t-shirt with a tiny overweight reindeer on it.
3. Telling Lee "if we don't make it through this, I want you to know you're a great guy." Really? I guess programming a TV remote for a person means you've done everything together. That comment made me want to toss him out to the starved zombies myself.

My response to him was "We WILL make it through this!" So I felt sorta obligated to save him when I got the chance. That, and I don't find Carly all that attractive. I think it's the hair and attitude.

On one of my playthrough's I also responded "We WIL make it through this!", and still let him die.
On the second play through I responded "Shut Up Doug!" For some reason that one felt right.

This made me laugh. All in all, I'd say Lee spent WAY more time with Carley than Doug in episode 1. That's the reason many people saved her.
I never got the reason why people saved Carly over Doug, I mean for ffs Carly put the batteries in the wrong way and she didn't even know how to work a radio.
She was a good shooter but Doug was smarter than her imo.
Carley saved the survivors outside the drug store, killed the walker that attacked Clementine, offered to keep Lee’s identity a secret, volunteered to help rescue Glenn at the motor inn, and players realized she was sexier than Doug. Players spent more time with Carley than Doug, so there was more time to bond. When I chose between Doug or Carley, I factored in Carley’s gun and accuracy.
Doug rescued Carley and used the remote control to activate the televisions across the street to distract the zombies, but he did less for Lee compared to Carley, so that may explain why Carley was preferred over Doug.
On the other hand, Carly just isn't very bright. She goes blabbing about Lee's past right away and at an awkward time instead of keeping her peace for a better time,
When is there a better time to discuss Lee’s conviction for killing a senator? How should a reporter feel about a convicted murderer being accepted into a survivor stronghold? Confronting Lee was a wise move.
she wastes ammo like there's no tomorrow whilst claiming to be a crack-shot maverick,
She couldn’t reach the ammunition in her purse one time. Kenny said she had a deadeye, but she never claimed to be an excellent shooter. I don’t recall her missing targets when she fired.
Besides, Lilly and Kenny are both plenty good with guns. So having a third is a pointless, ammo-wasting redundancy.
Kenny does not fire a gun in Episode 1. His marksmanship is established in Episode 2. In retrospect, your argument is understandable, but the first time playing, you don’t know how many survivors are good with firearms.
The problem is all of Carley's skills come into play during each episode because an episode without fighting and high-stress situations could be a bit boring. We don't necessarily get to see everything Doug has to offer.
Carly kepts your secret safe and she's good with a gun...
But guns run out of ammo; and attract walkers - she doesnt even know how to determine +/- on battery ends
Doug is a basement dwelling nerd and you cant really get alot out of him to sway your decision in the way of converstion...
But he's brave and McGuyverish- VERY desirable skills in a ZA world.
My other head picked Carlie on my initial playthrough, but Doug will be way more useful down the road imo and thats why he made the final cut.
Because it's easier to get to know and like her in EP 1 than Doug. The only time you can talk to Doug is in front of the gate. And you can't keep the conversation going, you have to keep clicking on Doug to get all his conversation options. While everyone else you could keep the conversation going until there were no more options.
And Carley you have a lot more interactions with. you have everything in the pharmacy, an emotional moment with her broadcast station being attacked, the scene in the office, and you get to go on mission together.
People say Carly is a good shooter..... Til the ammo runs out.
Shots attracts walkers. Brain saves life's. Also the best tool you have in a survival situation is your brain. So it was easy pickings.
The problem is all of Carley's skills come into play during each episode because an episode without fighting and high-stress situations could be a bit boring. We don't necessarily get to see everything Doug has to offer.
Be honest though, Doug saving Lee at the farmer scene by
flashing a light into his eye
is much more funny to watch than Carly shooting him
I saved Doug directly because he's a really nice guy and Carly is kinda dumb Not knowing how to use batteries and well... She didn't even bring a magazine WITH her ... You cant keep everything in your purse in a zombie apocalypse...
She knows how to shoot. I think that counts for more then being able to program a remote. I have zombies chasing my ass not rogue tv's.
That's what TellTale wanted you to believe. The shoved "she can shoot things" in your face a lot. And then they made you decide and revealed here greatest flaw: She is lost without her gun / when it runs out of ammo.
You have another "good shot" in the team and Doug is actually a great help in episode 2.

It's funny you say that. He both fixes the only thing technical thing Lee finds in episode 2 and invents a new gadget out of the trash in the motel.
carley with her hair up in a bun and wearing librarian glasses. or more like felicia day nerd would make even more people abandon doug
