You're more of a reviewer (I know, they're basically synonyms, it's just that reviewer sounds less harsh than critic).

    i barely ever criticise!

Meh, those critics... can't say I agree with them. The shows just getting back into swing so you can't expect it to match the glory days from the start but these first 2 episodes were still rather good.

You can't judge it's rebirth at the beginning, you need time to see if it can hold up. Take for example Family Guy. When it came back it started good and went slowly and steadily downhill to the point it was literally painful to watch. They've picked up again however but that doesn't erase what they did.

We can only hope Futurama doesn't go the same way but from these first 2 episodes it seems more like so far so good to me.

I don't know what it is about these new episodes, but I'm just not enjoying them. The gags are good, but somehow the character interaction just doesn't seem like it's there anymore. I wasn't fond of the the second or most of the third direct to DVD movie either, so I'm going to probably take this as a downward movement compared to Devil's Hands, which admittedly would be hard to top.

I like to be able to pin down the reasons for not liking something, but honestly I don't have it yet. I'll probably be watching these two episodes a couple times over to figure it out, but I think it has something to do with character interactions and the narrative structure.

Of course the new series is bound to be critisized and nitpicked to the bone, everyone is going to have their own expectations of how it should be. Mostly, they're way too high and I don't think I've ever seen a series have a season further down the track that's fresh and better than the first couple.
I liked the episodes, the jokes seemed pretty much on par with season 4. Made me laugh and mainly, I dont hate it (yet). I just hope that they know when to stop (Im looking at you Simpsons and Family Guy).

The Leela butt mole episode was good for the most part but the actual but mole I didn't like. The episode coming after, which was a repeat, wasn't it? Was a little better.

    The wooden Bender episode.

I loved the episode with Zapp and Leela. The Rebirth episode was good but it wasn't great, but I understand that it was a bridge from the movies to the season. The eyePhone episode was fairly funny. I hope it can keep going strong but I'm kind of nervous that they might end up not being as good as the originals.

The latest episode was kind of... meh to me. I know Futurama's always done light social commentary, but this one was a bit too commentary-y for me, without enough actual funny. I hope this show doesn't become a futuristic Family Guy.

I saw the first 2 and I really disliked them, never laughed once. Not even a little smile. I was actually bored the jokes were flat and predictable.. and seriously, a vagina joke more obvious? °_° I know it was also a Star Trek reference but c'mon, at least they were subtle! Where's the wit? Where's the characters interaction? Where's the plot??? Hope they'll get back on track from now on. It didn't feel like Futurama at all. I had Family Guy vibes :(
  • edited July 2010
The new episode is better so far. Not perfect but I'm enjoying it. It has lots of insecure social constructs in it so far but it's still entertaining.

I liked the Leonardo Da Vinci episode.

Last nights episode was great if you ask me anyways. It was that brilliant mix of emotion and irreverance that only Futurama can do. Top form if you ask me

So, Futurama's back again (I somehow missed it when the new season premiered, so I just caught up on the last 5 episodes).

The quality of the animation is definitely more impressive this season (it seems to have caught itself back up to the quality of the original run. I wonder if they got a bigger budget due to the success of the show's return, or if they've just gotten better at working with what they have).

The episodes have been hit-and-miss again, like the beginning of last season. But I really enjoyed the episode about Leela's parent's 40th wedding anniversary (
especially with Leela's mom dating Zapp, and Zapp actually having genuine feelings for her. True, they broke up due to his zenophobic nature, but it was nice to see Zapp get a little bit of character development
    ).

It's still a damn good show.

Even the worst Futurama episode is still a damn good episode.

Last season had episodes that were incredibly touching (the one where Bender has to cope with mortality, the one where Fry got 'late' to a date with Leela because he went million of years into the future) and some that were very damn funny (the last reincarnation episode where we saw Futurama as a retro video game and a horribly dubbed anime? That was HILARIOUS).

So far the new season didn't have any episodes that have made me really feel something emotionally, but they still have been enjoyable to watch and are still funny.

They're doing Futurama in different styles at the end of this season too (at the end of season 7b, the episodes that will be aired in 2013). It's called "Saturday Morning Fun Pit" and will feature the characters in the style of classic saturday morning cartoons. One of the cartoons will be a parody of
Scooby Doo, with "Bender as a crime-solving dog with a bunch of teenage kids played by [the Futurama] characters"
. It sounds like it could be just as hilarious as Reincarnation. :)

I followed the series and saw every episode up to the first one after the movies...and then I haven't managed to catch a single episode since. It hurts and I feel I only have myself to blame.

Well it's been a while since Futurama made it's comeback after the 4 movies and It's now on it's second season after it's comeback. Anyway you can talk about anything Futurama in this thread (Also since this is a Futurama thread expect a few Simpsons references from Coolsome)

Anyway my question is what is your favorite Futurama movie?
  • JenniferJennifer Moderator
    edited September 2012
    There's already a Futurama thread.

But, to answer your question, my favorite movie is Bender's Big Score. I liked the other ones, but BBS seemed to connect the subplots to the main movie the best out of them (they also seemed to split up into separate episodes the best when watched on Comedy Central).
  • edited September 2012
Either Bender's Big Score or Green Yonder, but because I like seeing Leela and Fry.
  • edited September 2012
I'm the guy who voted Yonder. Just tossing that out there.
  • edited September 2012
I've added my vote to yonder as well. Doesn't help that I like to Go Green.
  • edited September 2012
I voted for Beast with a billion backs. I like the story in it and the Bender Subplot was so funny :D.

Bender's Big Score is a close second then Into the wild green yonder and then Bender's Game

I liked that movie but I didn't like the fact that the Bender subplot with the Earth's robots just ended up being unresolved at the end and it wasn't followed up on as everything just ended up back to the status quo in the next movie.

But you can give Bender one thing...He made the greatest ending to Bender's Big Score
    ''Well we're boned'' :D

It's been a while since I saw them all, but I seem to recall disliking Beast of a Billion Backs for some reason.

Perhaps because its implications were disgusting.

I think Bender's Game is the worst. I don't think it's bad but i think it's worst when compared to the rest. Don't get me wrong i think from the start until the part where they go to Bender's dream world is great but it's more of the second half where i start getting bored.

I felt the movies weren't structured awfully well - dunno if they were any better episodically?

I've just bought the DVD of the subsequent series and two episodes in, am not impressed. Just doesn't seem like "Futurama" at all. :(

Bender~ Kiss my shiny metal ass. Bender will be and always will be my favorite character. :)

The first three or four episodes after the return were frankly not very good. Actually I'd say they were pretty awful. After that the show seriously picked up, and there were a lot of excellent episodes. The most recent half-season was a bit more even -- there weren't any episodes that I would point to as spectacular, but they were mostly pretty solid.

I agree the movies weren't as great as they could have been, though I liked the last two more than the first two.

Futurama Into the Wild Green Yonder

This is the last series of four straight-to-DVD Futurama movies. And i am waiting for the another ones to coming...

It's been cancelled again. :( Comedy Central decided not to renew Futurama due to declining ratings.

If another network decides to pick up Futurama, I hope they do so immediately. The staff seems to take a while getting back into the groove after a cancellation. The quality picked up at the middle of season 6 and continued through the episodes we've seen so far of season 7, but the films (season 5) and the beginning of season 6 were pretty uneven.
