Actually, most people DID think Lee was the father. Shawn says it outside her house, Kenny and Hershel say it on the farm, and Lilly asks where her mother is if you speak to her at the pharmacy. Plus Vernon thought so too in 4. Christa was pretty much the only person to correctly guess that Lee was not Clem's father.

Ironic that the only person who was able to tell Lee was not her father was also of color.
    I wonder what that means...

None of you guys must be black, lol.

I knew Clem was black, even before looking at her parents' picture in a second playthrough. Her dad's black and her mom may be either very light skinned or just biracial.

The dead giveaway despite all that was her hair. It's clearly afro-textured. And it's absolutely beautiful, I must say. I wish more black girls would have their hair this way.

I thought Christa realized it because she is observant and uses her brain......
  • edited November 2012
Does her mom seriously look Asian?

Also, she is not African-American, she is Black.
  • edited November 2012
Her mom certainly looked black or light skinned. Her hair was afro-ish!
  • edited November 2012
I believe so. Her dad was black and her mother seemed to be mixed between white and black.

But I'm black anyways. Contrary to popularly belief. We come in all types of shades and sizes. We don't all have the same exact facial structures. <rant> However I don't want to call Clementine just 'African' - American. That title annoys me. You are only 'African American' if you were born in Africa and gained citizenship in America. </rant>

Omid and Chirsta look like they're from middle east. And yeah I think Clem half asian half african. Asian side is more dominant though.

Her mom may be mixed with Asian and black. Some of her features (hair and her lips) ring African American to me. Her skin does says she's mixed through.

So yeah, Clem's black. One drop rule, lol. And by the looks of it, she has a lot more than one drop.

i think her mom is thai or filipino..has to be, clem as asian eyes.

I understand thinking Clem doesn't look that black but to say her mom looks filipino I just can't see it at all. Look at her hair.
  • edited November 2012
not a lot of black people ITT lol

her mom was light skinned(probably mixed), and so was clem. I've seen plenty of black people with the same appearance( some of my relatives have the same skin tone as well).

as someone else said, the hair was a dead give away.

Folks when people of light skin mix they can create a light child. Examples Will Smith jada pinkett look at there kids or Vanessa williams and Rick fox. It happens sometimes but at end of the day its all about who DNA is the strongest or even sometimes if family members from the past effect how your kid looks they may be dark skin with light eyes or light skin with dark eyes.

Either way Clem is beautiful creation :)

I don't really want to be the one to say does it matter, but....

    Does it?

I think clem is African-American, but she could also be part Asian, but i think she mostly African-American cause she have a Afro, her dad is black and her mom is little mix.

    Wait, what?

    Christa is African-American?
  • edited November 2012
Not sure but boy was she adorable ;w; I love how there was a mix of ethnicity.

Part black, part asian. Dad is black, Mother is asian.

As for how her mother had that hair, we have these little things called "hair salons" where people can go to have their hair put into all sorts of styles they would never accomplish naturally.

but her mums hair (and clems hair) was still curly all the way through the game, the hair won't remain styled forever. Unless Clems mums zombie was going to the zombie hair salon :P

Christa actually looks a lot like a central African woman in her body and facial structure.
For example: Just look at female runners from Kenia and not the average African-American female in the USA (with waaay more body fat)

Keep in mind her mum is a zombie so it's not like her hair would grow out of that style. I had dreadlocks for years and only ever went to the salon twice, once to get them done and once to get them cut off.

I guess that's a good point (although dead peoples hair does grow for a few days after death ew, but only a few days after XD) I still liked the idea of a zombie hair salon

I know it's frustrating to have a character that you have an emotional connection with not be white, I know..it's not easy having a human connection with a non white, but..alas...sometimes it must be done.

Actually thought Christa was Hispanic. Not that any of this matters as far as game play and story but it was nice to see a colorful cast and not the same o same o "normal color" characters.

But for the sake of sanity lets all pretend that Clem is white, you know what happen last time a character was thought to be white actually turned out to be a negro. Hunger Games anyone?

You have a point, but that surely wasn't the first thing that popped into my mind. I automatically assumed she was of Hispanic descent.

Where in the world did anyone get the idea that Clementine's mother was Asian? She absolutely is not. We even saw a picture of her in the very first episode! She's just a fair skinned African American, same as Clem.

You should read this blog I made on The Walking Dead Wiki a little while back concerning this topic. http://walkingdead.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Rainb0wSprinklz/Clementine%27s_Race

Does it really matter what race she was?
  • edited November 2012
She certainly doesn't sound African American, at least. Though that's probably due to her VA.

What does a "African-American" sound like?

the voice actress is an adult white woman.

Well, if you only heard Christa's voice for example, you could probably assume that she was not Caucasian at the very least.

yes, exactly. I don't think her mother looks asian at all. Her zombie self looks like she has different hair texture though which I find weird. Clem just always confused me on her race because her hair looks like she's african american but her skin really is very very fair, much like her mother's.
