Duck was (arguably) the only one who was going to get bitten. which, after what happened back at farm, wouldnt have made me give even the slightest fuck at watching kens whole family be taken down. yes, carley may have given you good emotional advice, but she WAS NOT smarter than doug. When you told her to follow you in the pillow&gun scene, she just looks at you and says why. and dougs trap in episode two was awesome. you stopped the st. johns WAY up the road before they were literally a couple feet outside your front door. The wires were even attached to different bells to section it off. intelligence, my friend. are you starting to see where im coming from?
when two dudes sit outside and talk about women they like, theyre fuckin bros. oh, and Too bad you never told him that that was your brother. From his perspective, you were talking to a random zombie.
EDIT: how is shining a laser pointer into andy st. johns eye NOT stepping up? that shit was rad, and it definately saved my life.. it made me laugh out loud too.
I think you mean ingenuity rather than intelligence, That is something Doug had that Carley didn't really (although IIRC he was just as clueless about the TVs until you spelled it out as Carley was with the pillow), but i would necessarily say he's more intelligent, because thats quite a loose concept, Carleys knowledge on social situation like your secret and the group politics is just as valid a show of intelligence as Doug's technical knowledge.
Tbh though i don't see why we have to be so divided on this, the whole scene at the pharmacy is about having to leave a good friend behind.
Duck was (arguably) the only one who was going to get bitten. which, after what happened back at farm, wouldnt have made me give even the slightest fuck at watching kens whole family be taken down.
That is awfully cruel of you haha. And no, Carley saved everyone there.
'We're trapped!" "We would have died out there!"
And least we forget, she later saves Clementine or Lee again (depending on your actions).

Obviously, overall, Doug is smarter than Carley. Although Carley is smart in different ways, she's more street smart (or in your words, good at emotional advice). I really don't blame her for not seeing the pillow trick... that shit was just unrealistic, and Lee pretty much put her on the spot ("pull out your gun", "lul wut Lee?"). It wasn't even a trap, it was an alarm. Alarm in a zombie apocalypse where there main trait is being attracted by noise is... not a good idea? I don't know. Honestly Doug vs. Carley boils down to, in the later episodes, is if you want a love interest / the chance to tell others about your past vs. ... an alarm? Everything else Doug presents is displayed through Carley well enough (or am I seeing this through rose-tinted glasses?).

They shared one line over a woman, haha. And that just relates to what Doug would have wanted, he wants you to save Carley and not himself. That's honestly my favorite quality in Doug, he's selfless. It sucks I showed my respect for said quality by letting him die, but you know.
It wasn't even that, he YELLED when like twenty walkers were right beside us. He could have easily made the walkers detect us. Similarly, albeit he was unaware, he interrupted a very touching moment.
EDIT: how is shining a laser pointer into andy st. johns eye NOT stepping up? that shit was rad, and it definately saved my life.. it made me laugh out loud too.
I thought it was just stupid. He can aim a laser pointer from that distance, but can't shoot a gun reliably? What the...? It was pretty rad though I guess, too bad he couldn't save you from either Travis or Mr. Parker earlier in the episode... Like Carley could. Meh though.
Problem is, Carley's path opens up an additional subplot that I enjoy, where Lee is talked into revealing his past to the rest of the group. If Telltale really wants to understand why the majority of players pick Carley over Doug, it isn't just because she's a "pretty girl with a gun". She also delivers more "oomph" to the story than Doug, IMO.

The thing is, even in episode one it was just such an easy choice. There was literally no temptation to save Doug. I mean if it were real life who would you save and be more appreciated of: someone who saved your life multiple times or someone who... got a remote working? I'm sorry for saying this but it just seems unrealistic to save Doug. I know I don't really have the right to say that, especially considering my avatar and sig (Carley fan, kind of) but, I mean, just come on.

CarScar, you are absolutely right. In my first play through, when it came to the decision point, the first thought that quickly entered my mind was "I owe her." So that's why I saved Carley because she saved my ass. I would do the same in real life.
I might still feel down for having to let another die, but it's a type of guilt that won't last long considering this person was basically a stranger who did little for me. On the other hand I would definitely feel guilty probably for the rest of my life for letting someone who saved me and develop some rapport with die.
I chose Doug because I didn't see Carley as valuable (having said that, my hubby chose to save Carley because she had already proven to be a great shot). Doug had smarts and tech abilities. I thought about the fact that he might be able to rig up some sort of power system when/if the lights went out. (LOVED the alarm system he set up)!
He seemed like a better person, a more interesting person. Carley seemed... eh. :P lol I do like her, too, don't get me wrong, just preferred Doug.
Carley could have just stomped on the head of the lone zombie that was grabbing her ankleat arms length.
Doug needed more immediate assistance.
Also lol'ing at people saying they saved Carley for any other reason than her rack. Maybe the firearm, but I bet if Doug was head shotting zombies left, right and center the stats would still show that the vast majority saved her. Look at the massive outcry when she died for pities sake, I certainly doubt it's because they missed her glock.

Im not going to deny that was probably a factor for many and maybe it was subconsciously for me too who knows, but to make out like that's the only reason to like her character or mourn her death is far more laughable.

What I don't understand is why is it so strange that people saved Carley because, yah know, she actually had screen time. Doug had like two minutes of screen time.
Also I know Carley could have pistol whipped the zombie, but Doug's the one that put his back to a window that was being attacked by a group of walkers. His back, the most vulnerable part of his body.

Well, Lee, Doug, Carley and Glenn all put their backs against the front door.
Using your back to hold up a fortified window would probably be more efficient than just using your hands, especially if there are several boards with gaps in between. Although it is fairly dangerous, it would also be dangerous if the window broke(since no one would be keeping it up) and 20 zombies came pouring in.
I think Carley should have been on the floor trying to kick away a walker who had grabbed her legs, that would have made her seem more in danger.

Difference is that they put their back against a sturdy door, Doug put his back against a swarmed "screwed" window. It's pretty much a death wish, especially considering there's likely to be exposed parts of the window leading to a quick grab.

Doug got grabbed before he could fortify anything.
"That window is screwed!" "Go!"
*8 seconds later* "Ah! Help Lee!!"
I think Carley should have been on the floor trying to kick away a walker who had grabbed her legs, that would have made her seem more in danger.
I guess, I think she was panicking. I mean, who wouldn't I guess? Walker got your ankle, you have no ammo and there's a lot of other walkers comin' your way.
The thing is, even in their death scenes Carley was more impressive in my opinion. She's over there killing multiple walkers with ease while Doug attempts to fortify an already screwed window for like a couple of seconds. Carley's death is a lot more gruesome as well, in my opinion. I might just be extremely biased though, I guess. I just don't see Doug as an appealing choice, and I'd be lying if I said otherwise.
I decided to save Carley because I trust her, the game is based on other character's actions and what you think of them. I trusted Carley and plus, she has a great trigger finger. Also she's the only one Lee can really talk to and I grew fond of her character development up until Lily shot her.
I was fond of Doug though but not as much as I was of Carley, they both would have been essential to the group but I definitely would have picked Carley over Doug any day.
I know many people decided to save her because she was "hot", but come on guys.
Speaking as a straight girl who picked Carley without a thought, I really don't think that is the main reason!
I picked her because she has a gun knows how to use it! A trait you don't see in women on the walking dead very often plus she was just a awesome character and she clicked with Lee right away and even though she liked Doug, I had feeling something could happen there.. shame she got shot in episode 3
I saved Carly in the first playthrough because I thought she would be able to shoot the walker on her as I ran to help Doug and figured maybe she would be able to shoot a few in the head as well to help him. I guessed wrong....my initial thought was to save Doug as he seemed to be in a worse situation then Carly who had a walker at her feet.

Btw ooooh straight girl lol jk, see what I did there? xD I liked Carley because she and Lee bond and she is good with a gun, not to mention she willingly volunteers to go save Glenn and saves your life and others many times. I can't deny that I also wanted to see her and Lee get into a relationship It wasn't really because she was a girl or had a nice rack though, just looked like a better choice, and I was happy by the results.
i Choose Doug cause he's smart. Carley was not really that useful other than being able to handle a gun, which can be taught to Doug. Being smart, rebuilding the fence with extra modifications is not something Carley would have learned. I just saw him to be more useful overall with his intelligence over Carley and i think many picked her "only" cause she was a girl and wanted to get into her pants.
I was thinking for everybodys survival. Then Doug is the obvious choice imo.
Carley did get more initial interaction, but I didn't have a particularly clear grasp of either character at that point. Scenes like Carley taking the risk to help you only to proceed to berate Glenn for wanting to save someone else didn't help matters.
The first time I played the scene with a friend I opted for Doug, considering he had several Walkers on him and Carley only had one loosely grasping her ankle... (Pistol whip that thing girl!) When I did my full playthrough later I ended up going with Carley. I did like Doug, but the extra dialogue about knowing your background seemed to grant for a more interesting story. Plus she's a sharpshooter.
One of the main reasons was I didn't trust Carley
She knew too much and couldn't even put batteries in a radio
I liked Doug and I thought a Geek was more unique and would bring more to the group
She was a risk to Lee and couldn't even do the most simple things
Lilly never doubted Doug and purposefully shot Carley and only accidentally shot Doug
Also Doug has a laser pen...
First off, i always complete games like this more than once, so because of that, i have no problem making "bad decisions", in 1 playthrough.
I picked Doug because he seems like a stand up guy, not to mention Carly wanted to leave the girl trapped in the motorinn. For my first "goodie two shoes" playtrough it was Doug, then on my second one where i go all out ruthless badass, i will save Carly, and side with Kenny instead of Lilly. Probably kill the 2 brothers on the dairy aswell.
As saying it now, I picked her because she's a good shoot, she was nice to Clem, she could have told everyone who Lee really was the second he went out of sight yet she kept her promise, she also saved duck and the rest of the group.
I've saved Carly because she's a woman! Just as I've saved Duck because he was a kid.
Yet I really wanted them both to live. Doug was a very nice guy and what was even more sad that in the end they said "He was there when you've found your brother"
In anyway... Carly -"How did you chose? We both needed you"
Lee -"I was going to help you both.."
OH and people that are saying that people who chose Carly were thinking with their d**k, are very wrong..
I chose Doug for a few reasons. For starters, he seemed more resourceful in general. Carly on the other hand, couldn't figure out friggin batteries and couldn't fight off a single walker grabbing her ankle at arm's length(stomp it gurrrl :P)! I just liked him better as well. Carly only seemed useful with a gun, and Doug set up an alarm system. Also, he seemed like he needed more help generally speaking(chest being grabbed versus ankle grab... Not a hard choice). Doug, I considered my bro, feeding him in episode two. Just my opinion though.

^ Same as the above. Doug showed his resourcefulness. Carly didn't know how to put batteries into a radio.
Unfortunately Doug's skills are a moot point for the most part. The supplies he needs are extremely scarce compared to the supplies Carley needs(says so himself), so he doesn't help the group very much at all compared to her.
He's a cool guy, though. I loved the line you can get for his stat screen at the end of ep 5. "You told him he was a weird guy. You weren't wrong."

I disagree. Doug sets up that security system at the motel, for example. I'm not sure if someone else does that in the other path, though.
A feminist, as I understand it, merely works to advance the cause of gender equality.
Oh, and I let Doug die because his VA annoys me.
A lot of feminists think that gender equality turns into woman being the lead. You always have to take a woman over a man because if you take a man it had to be because of a gender bias.
I chose Carley for a few reasons. Of course she's hot to start off. Someone's gotta procreate.
But that's not really why. I chose her because she saved my butt every time I was in trouble from the minute she came in the story to when they left the drugstore. SHe helps people and isn't afraid to speak her mind. Also, she is the only one in the group with a gun at that point, so you need her gun and you can't get it if it goes down with walkers. I think it was the best decision to go with Carley.
I disagree. Doug sets up that security system at the motel, for example. I'm not sure if someone else does that in the other path, though.
Yes, but that is the second and final time he can ever use his technical skills. Carley's more common gun skills come into play over and over. In episode 3, if you talk to Doug at the motel, he says that anything he can make requires wires/batteries/things he just doesn't have, and that he feels useless.
The alarm system was great, though. I just think Doug could have had more success if he had his own subplot in the story like Carley did.
Well... technically... his laser pointer helps beat Andy, but idk if I'd call it technical skills. Anyway, yeah Carley had much more to offer on the table, she was introduced more as a character, and she seemed easier to save. I mean, come on! Doug dies by putting his back against a broken window. He should've tensed up to keep from being pulled out the window. The worst that'd of happened would be getting bitten in the back(highly likely). If Lee goes to save him all it takes is one tug and he's magically free. Then again, Carley not being able to stomp on a crawler makes little sense as well, nor the fact that after saving Carley it is too late to save Doug, who could've easily held out longer IMO.
I picked Carley because her skill set was more useful in an apocalypse than Doug's was. I did a Doug playthrough, and I think he' a cool guy, but Carley is the more practical choice. She can skillfully handle a firearm and makes consistent headshots, and is always the one to save everyone else's skins up until she got shot when her back was turned. Maybe she wasn't the most "technologically able" member of the group, but I'd personally take lots of headshots over some bells and string every time in a zombie apocalypse.
Gotta say though, in my Doug playthrough I was really impressed when he shot the bandit during the raid. He stepped up and helped save the group despite not liking guns. Too bad the bromance had to end.
I chose Carley because I'm a feminist.... well, more like sexist ( no offence guys )
I mean, I find it kinda boring and redundant seeing guys always alive and always holding firearms... which lead me into saving her because it's very rare to see a woman that can handle a gun during a zombie apocalypse. You guys who saved Doug are very ungrateful, she saved your ass twice ( and Clementine if you failed to protect her in the pharmacy ). Another example is on episode 2 ( if you saved her ) when she killed Travis/David to save you ( lol.. Doug just knocked Travis/David in the head ) and when she shot Andy's ear to distract him from killing you. Another one is on episode three which was very useful and made Doug looked like trash, is when she kissed Lee and gave you guys the option to tell the group about your past leading into POSITIVE RESULTS later on. By the way, she killed MORE bandits than Doug could ever will.
P.S You guys hating her because she made a mistake on putting the batteries are very SHALLOW. I mean, everybody makes stupid mistakes sometimes, which I highly doubt that you guys hadn't.
Okay, I get the point about her saving your life more often, I understand that. But calling Doug "trash" because he didn't give you the option to tell everyone your past is hardly fair. A reason you can pick him to survive is at that point Carley is the only one who knows your past, that you know of. (You find out about Larry after the choice) Doug does prove useful, he creates some neat stuff that would actually be really useful in a ZA. I actually did choose Carley, but I completely see the merits in Doug.
I chose Carley because there's just not enough incentive to save Doug over her; either from a realistic survival standpoint or from a narrative one. She has the group's only firearm, knows how to use it and saves your life more than once before the decision point. She brings more to the story, as well.
By contrast, Doug's basically what I'd call an empty uniform. As pointed out, he says himself that he feels useless because his skills require resources the group lacks. Even the excuse is that "oh, well, he can learn to use a weapon like Carley" falls flat since in his 3+ months with the group he never does.
Doug was cool a computer nerd like me. But I didn't save him, I saved Carley you want to know why? To be honest I don't know why, in the heat of the moment I just ran over to Carley and gave her the ammo. I just wanted to save both of them, and I really regret not saving Doug and I wish things were different but there not, it's over.
My first experience with TWD was watching someone else play, and I remember verbally encouraging them to choose Doug. In my own playthrough later, I chose Carley because I wanted to see what the difference was, but I would have chosen Doug if I had been doing a blind playthrough. :P
I have a couple of reasons - one, Doug reminded me very strongly of my brother, who has Asperger's syndrome. I know that was likely not Telltale's intention to portray Doug that way, but it was how I interpreted him, and I just instantly found him endearing in a quirky way as well. Plus, I thought his talents - tech stuff - were more 'unique' than Carley's, who was only a good marksman. Larry had said Lilly was military, so I reasoned that she would probably be a good shot, too.
Also, Carley only had one zombie on her leg, while Doug was nearly being torn apart Shaun of the Dead style. I figured Carley should have been able to kick the zombie off or at least pistol whip it - Doug was in more immediate danger.
I think Doug is a more selfless and heroic character (as evidenced by his "I wish you had chosen her" and his sacrificing himself for Ben,) and that isn't to say I don't like Carley - she is also very heroic and kind-hearted. But picking her ended up having more pros in the end, which is too bad. I wish Doug could have somehow said something that encouraged Lee to think of spilling his past himself. Doug really wasn't given nearly as much development and that makes me sad.

A lot of feminists think that gender equality turns into woman being the lead. You always have to take a woman over a man because if you take a man it had to be because of a gender bias.
Gotta say though, in my Doug playthrough I was really impressed when he shot the bandit during the raid. He stepped up and helped save the group despite not liking guns. Too bad the bromance had to end.
Carley had a gun. That's why I didn't choose her. I figured she could take care of herself.
Too bad she had no bullets! If I'd known that, I'm not sure what I would have done.
