So any idea when Telltale might announce something new?

edited March 2013 in General Chat
I love adventure games, but didn't care for Jurassic Park & certainly not The Walking Dead. Given that all the episodes for both are out, I figure Telltale should be announcing some kind of new project.

Hopefully, something I'm a bit more interested in. Heck, I'd glady throw into a Kickstarter if Telltale needed monies to get another season of Monkey Island.

I know this sort of thing usually coincides with some convention or another. Anything coming up that might be likely? Like a PAX convention?

Fables is expected to be the next released, followed by season 2 of The Walking Dead. That'll cover the whole of this year and probably the start of next. After that, there is the previously announced Kings Quest game but whether that is still in development is unknown.

Nothing further than that has been announced.

Might check out Fables, and hopefully some games that resulted from Kickstarter might be out by 2014.

It's not the funding that's the problem for a new season of Monkey Island, it's the management over at LucasArts. Telltale's been approaching them since they were founded in 2004 to try to license their properties, and it wasn't until Darrell Rodriguez became president in 2008 that they were finally able to do so, and from that we got Tales of Monkey Island.

Unfortunately, Darrell Rodriguez left LucasArts in 2010, and his replacement Paul Meegan wasn't open to licensing their adventure game properties.

They're now under new management since Paul Meegan left in 2012 and that same year LucasArts was purchased by Disney. No one knows whether or not LucasArts under Disney ownership will be open to licensing their adventure game properties.

Ugh...I've given up hope for a second season of BTTF the game...

Yeah i will admit its getting sorta worrying that we are still hoping for an announcement of Tales 2 of S&M 4 or Strong Bad season 2 but TWD Season 2 is announced before Ep 4.

Even though I was not a Fables fan until I heard Telltale was making a game, I would've thought that Telltale would return to classic point and click gameplay for Fables due to a lack of action on the scale of Walking Dead or Jurassic Park, but evidently Telltale is making Fables have gameplay similar to that of Walking Dead so honestly I don't know what Telltale's future intentions are.

They still had/have King's Quest coming, which is said to be a more difficult adventure series compared to Telltale/LucasArts point and click adventures, but Telltale is hesitant to say anything about King's Quest since they announced it back in February 2011 alongside Walking Dead, Fables, Puzzle Agent 2, and Hector. Perhaps the Jurassic Park delay and the extra time Telltale gave to Walking Dead occupied them until they weren't able to hold the King's Quest license or something, but who knows?

I'd like to see Telltale take a best-of-both-worlds approach and make adventure games closer to their earlier games alongside the drama adventure games like Walking Dead, but I think Telltale is misinterpreting the success of Walking Dead and assuming people liked the easy/casual puzzles instead of the fact that they told a story with relatable characters for Walking Dead, and because of this it sounds like Telltale wants to focus more on easier/casual adventure games that prioritize story over gameplay instead of treating them both equally.

Telltale's next game is Fables. After that, they'll release Walking Dead 2.

After that their next game is supposed to be King's Quest, but after two years of silence it seems its fate is a little dubious. Hopefully it'll still happen, though.

What happens afterwards is anyone's guess.

Also, I would give up on a new Monkey Island game, by Telltale or any other developer. LucasArts isn't interested in the IP anymore, and really it's kind of amazing that Tales and the Special Editions happened at all.

I'm guessing there will be something in the spring (April, May). Shoot, that's just around the corner!

I want to hear what is going on with TTG's King's Quest before they announce anything new.

A lot of us do, to be honest. Even if it's just acknowledgement that they're still doing something with it.

I understand their reasoning behind jumping ahead on TWD2 since that's probably their most successful game to date. And I do look forward to seeing "Fable" now that I've been reading up on it.

As far as their older franchises go, I think their best candidate for a return will be TOMI2, but that will probably be an "out of their own pocket" project once the company starts expanding again and can afford the space and man-power. As for S&M... I think they wrapped up their trilogy really well, which was more than I could have ever dreamed of for these characters. It's like only yesterday I was out of my mind with excitement over their first return to gaming since "Hit the Road".

Tales and Strong Bad are both out of Telltale's hands. It doesn't look like Lucasarts/Disney is interested in licensing MI again and the Brothers Chaps can't even find time to work on their own site, much less a full Strong Bad game.

Well, maybe we'll hear something at Pax or E3. Maybe.

I hope soon... I hope they find time to slip in another Sam and Max game as well as the already announced games.. its been too long and I need to visit the world of Sam and Max again... Now is the perfect time too... Sam and Max are giants in the genre they should have a game out during this little adventure boom.

Rumor has it that they might do that. I don't know if they will do that, but I hope they do!

    Forget it. :(

Would I like it if Telltale just stopped in its tracks and made a balls-to-the-wall retro adventure game Sam & Max puzzle fest, just once, to show that we can? Yeah, of course. That would be totally fun to make. I don't think it's likely to happen, nor do I think that the studio needs to for any real reason, both because people here are happy with the things we do make and the challenges we do choose to accept on the projects we do, and because there are plenty of other people making the crazy puzzle-first style of games that everyone loves.

That quote to me doesn't mean no more Sam & Max.

Yeah, I agree. It just means that Telltale isn't going to make a LucasArts style Hit the Road-esque Sam & Max game full of difficult puzzles. It doesn't mean they won't make more Telltale style Sam & Max seasons.

The quote wasn't meant to say that S&M will "never" happen again. That's just your interpretation. :o

Sam and Max and Tales of Monkey Island haven't been moved to Classics yet...
    I still have hope

They're only there because people still post in them on a regular basis. If people stop posting, they'll get moved. So post. :)

I just want to reiterate that I am starved for new information about the Telltale King's Quest project.

If anyone reading has any secret inside information or is able to leak some juicy details, please do not hesitate to meander over to the King's Quest forum and fill us all in. Don't worry, you can do it anonymously, and no one has to know who you are. :-)

If nothing else, can someone please at least confirm that something is happening with King's Quest? King's Quest fans have supported Telltale since the beginning. Please don't disregard us.

    Thank you.

Having seen the forum, it doesn't seem that way :p

But yeah, TT need to say something about this. You don't just announce that you're going to make a King's Quest game and then say nothing else about it for months. That's incredibly mean.

I have purchased many Telltale games over the years, and I remember when Telltale began making adventure games. The very same people who love King's Quest (and other classic Sierra and LucasArts games) were among Telltale's original fan/customer base. Telltale, please don't forget that.

What has left a bad taste in many people's mouths, I believe, is the dismissive way some from Telltale have spoken of KQ. Also, they aren't even confirming that they are still working on KQ. It's almost like they are holding the series/license hostage and are telling the fans to pound sand/get lost. And now there are indications that TTG might venture away from classic-style adventure gaming even further? What does that mean for new KQ games? Imagine if this same thing were happening with the Monkey Island series; how do you think fans of the series would react?

Update: I hope you didn't see the original version of my comment. I misread your response and reacted angrily. See what kind of atmosphere of mistrust TTG's handling of KQ has helped create; it's leading me to want to attack anyone with any kind of association with TTG. :-)

The sort of people who hate King's Quest and Sierra in general really didn't start populating the forums in big numbers until Tales of Monkey Island.
