Assuming humanity lasts at least another 50 years without going extinct, there will probably be another official King's Quest game.

That's pretty likely. The bigger question, though, is will is be worth playing?

Kings Quest was not Telltales fault, I think it was when Disney started to screw stuff up with Lucas Arts, at least that what I heard.

King's Quest was a Sierra/Activision license though. It was in part a deliberate choice by Telltale to focus on other titles including Walking Dead season 2. Another part of it was Activision wanting the license for their own purposes, which may or may not have been influenced due to adventure gaming coming back out in the spotlight.

In regards to King's Quest, it sounds like Vivendi is rooting around the couch cushions for Activision assets they can sell off.

Yeah, today's the end of the five year deal Vivendi had for the Activision merger that prevented them from making financial decisions without approval of the three members of the board who held special powers of veto directly after the merger.

They effectively have control of Activision Blizzard now as the majority shareholder (with a 61 percent stake in the company), and with no limits in place any longer.

The Sierra brand was handled very differently under Vivendi control, so it will be interesting to see how it's handled now that Vivendi's got control again. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Sierra franchises (or the whole Sierra brand) sold off (assuming anyone with enough cash to catch Vivendi's interest is still interested in them).
