Poker Night 2's Music

This soundtrack is amazing. My sincerest compliments. I fell in love with it instantly, far more than the first game's (which I also like). :)

I was disappointing actually. Poker Night 2 had slow jazz covers of recognizable songs from their respective franchises. They played when a certain player was in the lead sometimes, like a theme song.

Aside from the fantastic Still Alive, I've only heard unedited songs straight from their series. It's quite the let down... Oh well. I guess I can't complain about classic Sam and Max office music.

There's a jazzy cover of "This Ain't No Place for a Hero" (Borderlands 2) that plays in the basic Inventory set-up.

I should have mentioned unedited tracks aside. :B

I'm pretty sure I heard a rendition of the Venture Bros. theme when I had the Venture set out.

Although it sounded just different enough to be something else entirely.

The music changes when you unlock a theme (like RAnthonyMahan mentioned with the VB set). Lots of great music in this game, go Jared & co.!

Does anyone have a list of all tracks that were covered? I can't tell for sure but I swore I heard a song from Army of Darkness in there somewhere.
  • edited April 2013
Yeah, what was the track with the beautiful piano at the beginning, followed by the sax? Devil's Playhouse (the ONE S&M game I've yet to play)? It's hard to explain through text, but needless to say that when it played for the second time, I turned voice and SFX down just to hear it while playing. :P

The dramatic sounding one? Yeah, that's the one I thought was from Army of Darkness. The Evil Dead trilogy has lots of songs that sound vaguely like that.

Haha, yeah, I had a hunch you were thinking of that one, too. You got good taste. I feel super embarrassed having to ask that because, as much as I love most of these properties, it has been a while since I watched Venture Bros., Evil Dead/Army, played S&M, etc.

I'm not really familiar with most of the franchises but the music is really good. Even though its kind of less fitting of a backalley poker tourney compared to the mellow bass riffs in the first lol.

I very much liked the music in this one, it reminds me of Sam & Max and it's pretty jazzy attire.

Why doesn't someone like Guybrush20X6 go in and rip the music already? It was done fairly quickly for Poker Night at the Inventory. And maybe there will be another murder.

Wasn't that ripped with the telltale extractor tools?

I liked the Bolderlands table music (Ain't no place for a hero), The Sam & Max theme (Along with Noir Sam music for the S&M theme which actually plays in S&M Ep 3 on the PS3 version and I don't know. If it appears ingame for Ep 3.) I like the Venture Bros music when the theme for Venture Bros is on too.
  • edited April 2013
Yeah, the music is excellent, althought unlike the first game I don't recognize most of the tracks (only the Sam & Max ones)

And yes, it would be cool if the soundtrack was available somehow (maybe a CD on the Telltale store, with the first game soundtrack included?)

Yeah, I heard that too. It was awesome!

It's a very musically-distinct show, so I wouldn't be surprised if some other covers are in there. Fumblestealth and Tuff are both such instantly recognizable tunes, they might as well be considered the unofficial theme since they dropped the opening.

At any rate, the music is definitely a high point of this game. While it isn't as beautifully jazzy and loungish as before, I think it really has its own flavor that makes it just as good. They also did a great job cherry-picking the best tunes of Portal 2 and Sam & Max (still hoping for 4:59).
The Portal 2 room actually comes off just as genuinely creepy and foreboding as the game.

A member of the Telltale Team already said that this would be too difficult, legally.

But hey, I just looked at the end credits. The War Song is in this game somewhere? Maybe I just didn't recognize it.

Went digging through the credits. Here is the full list of songs covered in Poker Night 2!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvHORXS5Xms - Twilight Eternal, Sam and Max
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2SF9e23ApQ - There She Is, Portal 2
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1QUZzeZoPQ - Short Change Hero, Borderlands 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3B8Nrw19qEM - No Vacancy, Venture Bros.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voTp_yHU2wY - Prologue, Army of Darkness
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6ljFaKRTrI - Still Alive, Portal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5L2Gve7oh_4 - The War Song, Sam and Max

In addition, several songs from The Walking Dead were used in some way, but seeing as there is no official soundtrack nor way to rip the music, I can't link to those.

There She Is! I knew that sounded so familiar! Wow, I feel dumb. Thanks, Flotsam! :)

Holy crap Twilight Eternal is remixed??? I haven't heard that one yet, I've heard The Office theme though.

Also, the one I hear most is Short Chamnge Hero, now forgive me for this, but i don't play Borderlands, so in all honesty I was wondering why I kept hearing the Arkham City Trailer Music (http://youtu.be/xlET0kb5pmw). :p

I really love the music they chose for the Portal themed room.

Someone on YouTube has ripped a good chunk of the soundtrack to his channel. I can link to them, if it's okay.

Errr... any chance we can get the remixes for download somewhere?

    ESPECIALLY the S&M tunes?

Buy the game on Steam Gamersgate (must be activated on Steam though) and extract the files yourself.

The telltale voice extractor doesn't work with this game :(

It doesn't? But I want "no place for a hero" on jazz :(

Decided to just go ahead and link what's been uploaded of the soundtrack (if it's okay):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9r0iw_d8tpw Sam & Max: Twilight Eternal
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXt0MFu4jr8 PN1: Theme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=050aecqlWOc Portal 2: There She Is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntQ7IlMUwms Portal: Still Alive (Jonathan Coulton Cover)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpHWvIgEXtc Borderlands 2: Short Change Hero (The Heavy Cover)

I find it amusing that The Heavy was in both games...albeit, entirely different Heavies.

Because, while Arkham City used the song for a trailer, Borderlands 2 used the song for it's opening intro/"attract mode" movie. and, if I recall correctly, end credits as well. Much like they did for the first Borderlands and Cage the Elephant's "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked". Meanwhile I don't think that Batman Arkham City had any mention of it in the game at all (other than the trailer that is).

Yeah but the music in the actually background for the borderlands themed room doesn't match. It sounds more like a song from the actual game.

Yeah The Heavy had "Short Change Hero" as the intro and the outro was "How you like me now?" by them as well. As for the first Borderlands Cage the Elephant did the intro but the outro was DJ Champion's "No Heaven".

Nonetheless being a Borderlands fan I was so happy when I heard their rendition of Short Change Hero in the game. I have to agree though, I didn't even know that Batman even used the song till BL2 did and other people pointed it out.

When you say "Twilight Eternal Remix", do you mean a Poker Night version, or the one from the Penal Zone?

It's ANOTHER version, a smooth slow Jazz version for Poker Night 2. So that's the second remix/remake of Twilight Eternal.

When will the War Song be uploaded? I haven't recognized it from gameplay.
