So the PS4, which had maybe RFID locked games, then maybe no DRM, then absolutely no DRM, then DRM left up to the publishers, now has no DRM again save for maybe an online pass, and that's it.

Nintendo just dropped a bomb onto E3

That is the sound of WiiUs being sold by the thousands.

That's a strange surprise. I was expecting to have Mii as a playable character, but between this and the Villager it seems like they're using up their novelty slots fast

There's only one thing that really has to hold true, and that's that the console can be used completely offline if the user wishes to. The fact that online features cost money points rather strongly in the direction that all this is optional. As I could never download PS4 games (BR discs with 25, 50 or even more GB), I'm bound to disc based games anyway, where Sony upholds all the usual customer rights.

Wait, what?! So I'm going to need to log on to the Internet as a one off to activate the game (if the publishers deem it necessary)? How's that going to work when I don't have access to the Internet at my flat?

THE WHOLE WORLD ISN'T CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET. STOP PUSHING THIS SHIT ON US PLEASE.

Just finished watching the Nintendo Direct. Still too much bloom on "The Wind Waker HD" for my tastes, but the music for "Super Mario 3D World" is FANTASTIC.
• edited June 2013
Yeah Sony! HOW DARE YOU FORCE ME TO HAVE AN INTERNET CONNECTION IN ORDER TO PLAY GAMES ONLINE?!

Also the Nintendo Direct was the most boring, uneventful thing ever. When the only exciting thing is a Megaman not based off bullshit spin-offs in a party game, your show is a dud.

Nonono. This article specifically says ONLINE games. MULTIPLAYER games. Stuff you have to be online for to actually play the game. Not single player stuff.

In a nutshell, you can buy a used single-player game for the PS4 and play it all you want. If you want to go online with it, you may have to deal with some sort of publisher-determined DRM, be it an Online Pass or whatever.

Okay, my bad. All is cool again in the world.

I KNOW, RIGHT? ALSO, HOW DARE THEY DEMAND THAT I OWN A GAMES CONSOLE AND TV TO PLAY GAMES. THEY SHOULD TRANSMIT THE GAMES DIRECTLY INTO MY BRAIN VIA TELEPATHY. The BASTARDS!

Well, sort of. EA has many Mass Effect 3's left to pull off obviously. ;)

(Please don't delete your messages, it makes the forum a lot less readable. Hey, you're helping those who make the same mistake! ;) ).

Basically its the same as the PS3, except PlayStation plus is required for online play.
(Which, given Sony's support so far, appears to be a pretty reasonable compromise really (I'm ditching my live subscription anyway so that money will eventually move to a superior service)

Yeah, that and the ongoing lack of a cure for cancer. Mass Effect 3 is by the far the worst of the two though. Obviously.

I sure showed them on the TV-requirement front! Skipped right past their ridiculous assertion that TVs are for gaming.

This is actually a true story. I hooked my GameCube up to my computer monitor.

How does me deleting messages make a forum less readable? I've read the current page over again and everything seems to make sense to me.

Correct. Because I quoted the message you deleted. :o
/edit: oops, sorry, that actually wasn't true. You deleted the one where you snapped back at Dashing.

Ah. I'll be sure to be less hasty in posting in the future (or at least make better use of the edit button from now on).

Somewhere right now the Microsoft employee responsible for the "creative" decisions made with the XBOne is being ritualistically rubbed with oil in preparation of the arrival of Bill Gates, who will administer his own unique brand of punishment.

It sounds like people marshaling for battle.

And seriously, to win this gen you just have to be anything Microsoft isn't at this point.

Is it the same guy who is responsible for Windows 8 or Office 2013? Because he may be doing it on purpose because he enjoys it.

"We always knew that our story would play out over time. And even now, I would say, this isn't a sprint," Spencer said. "The platform launches this November; we've got more content to share."

"There are other means like Gamescom [and] TGS coming that will still continue to put a value [proposition] on what we're bringing to market," he added. "The reaction, I think, is complete when the product is on the shelf and it has a price and it has a content library and consumers vote."

"And that's the date I'm looking forward to."

In other words, all the crap Microsoft pulls off is forgotten when they have proof that customers still buy their console.

Yep. That pretty much sums it up. Sadly I don't have enough faith in people not to buy this monstrosity (and Microsoft appears to be banking on it).

Closing out day one, and we've still heard nothing about The Wolf Among Us. Shame, but after E3 2007, I should have learned that just because a developer says they're going to show something at E3, it doesn't mean that they'll actually show something new.
• It's probably based on the Tom Hardy film.

It is stand alone and is not based off the original films or the new one.

Hoping he does Ubisoft, Nintendo, and EA too. The Plants Vs Zombies stuff should be easy to work with.
