Before I played TWD: 400days I had decided to remind all choices I've done in 1st season.

It was great to watching stats trailer from each episode then listening to the soundtrack and from that moment I started worrying if DLC won't destroy image of one of the greatest games I've ever played.
    And It didn't...

I could fell amazing atmosphere of the Walking Dead again. Everyone can die, anything can happen.
Dialogs were great and voice acting either.
In so short period you were able to show us great stories and confront us with difficult choices...

    but lets be true

It was tooooo short( even for DLC). You could show us more. You could show us what happened to them all before or/and after. e.g. 2 day- Vince was in the bus................... 398 days latter Vince was with the group. What happened to him, maybe something changed him. You said that stories may cross each other like in Pulp Fiction but you havent used that. ( I know that moment on cornfield, the broken car light, traces of blood, wound on Nates hand and so on but it didn't change how I fell about the story.)

What about our choices from season one? I always say that choices in TWD change you, not outcome. But in that DLC you could use them very much. Christa, Omid, Lilly, Chuck... what happened to them before and after ( in few cases) they've met Lee. As Russell would said " What happend to I'll cov... We definitely recommend you playing season one 1st ( Why???) / 400 days will recognize choices you've made (in season one)" ( What for??? to seeing Carley once again- yeah it was nice but nothing more).

Also in that DLC I could not fell connection with characters I've played. There weren't any moments to get to know them better.

In summary: It didn't destroyed the image of one of the greatest games I've ever played cuz it was too short and not connected with season one at all.

Yeah it is only a DLC and a bridge between seasons. You can show us more in season two. Maybe we will get to know those character better but I hope that there will be one strong protagonist and his/her great story.

I really hope they we get reunited with Kenny, Christa, Omid and of course little Clementine. It would make me really sad if we never see any of them again. But of course there was a few from the TV show we didn't see for a few seasons. I don't know. I just hope all the emotion that was invested in them isn't gone. But I have faith that Telltale will not do that. And something else I was wondering was if it is going to be a choose your hero type this time around. Where you could like pick which one from the group to play and you develop their story since we lost the main character in season one. There is just so much going on with 400 Days that I cannot read it well. So I will just continue to follow the game and see how this plays out.

I agree, I have not seen such a good antagonist since Lilly her self, and she is in the middle of my dart board, for some reason I like Nate even though he is a sick man, He ranks op there with the Saint Johns and Crawford, just imagine if HE had kidnapped Clementine... I noticed all the improvements to, I guess that 45 million dollars went somewhere huh,

Don't needs more kidnappeds of clem. if i see that again, i will not get the game. Don't want to see that same thing over and over.
  • edited July 2013
I don't mean Clementine get kidnapped again, I mean just think if the events of Episode 5 was Nate and not Campman, may have been even better if that is even possible.

anyone else in russells playthrough choose to draw on nate? if you do and then say "im leaving your ass " nate apologizes for being a dick and says he will work on his first impressions. after that he doesn't seem like such a bad guy

Nate is a bro! He's Kenny version 2.0!

I give the episode a 10/10, just b/c how much content and quality you get for $5. :O

Vince's story, I liked, but pissed me off. I didn't wanna save the asshole tax guy, and the other guy said he was possibly falsely accused of rape. But, with this choice, Vince won't go with you, and gotta do another play through. x_x

Wyat's story wasn't bad. Tho, I got pissed when there was no way to wait for Eddie, then says "YOU LEFT HIM BEHIND, U MEAN JERK" X_X Hehe.

Russel's story was interesting. Nate had one weeeird sociopathic personality, but, I can almost relate to how he turned that way, being alone in the apocalypse and all. As people said before, HE HAS SUCH GREAT POTENTIAL TO BE A SUPER COOL KENNY 2.0 T-T

Fuckin' Bonnie story. Telltale went balls to wall on just making your jaw drop. Flirting with a guy, here comes the wife! And that fucking wack. OMFG. (Neat thing I noticed: if you're super honest to the guy, he comes with you, and takes the bag. If half-assed honest, he stays and suicides; Later in Shel's story they'll say they stole a lot of medicine(which was supposed to be in the bag)

Shel's story I had a weird time with. That boss guy so reminded me of Andy from Episode 2, and I wanted to punch him in the face. >:| Feeding those walkers outside, WHAT DA FUQ, Hello, Day of the Dead. Just gave me a bad vibe on where they getting their meat! >.< I was upset where no matter what you do, the kid still ends up a bitch. >:| Well, less of a bitch in "good samaritan" playthrough.

    Good stuff, Telltale! Good stuff!

do you guys really think that because Vince doesnt cone with you you'll never see him again? also purely my opinion but playing through the gane again just to get desired outcomes feels like cheating to me. i know what to expect and what to say and it doesnt do me any favours in the long run. sure its fun to do it again to see what happens but like i did in season 1 i didnt re-do the stories until i conpleted the full season.

Does anyone know how to get Leland to come with you if you are honest, someone said it can be done, it may because I said to get over it he does not come, and if that is the truth then damn it I should be less honest, but I still have a little bit of Lee in me.

I was honest and he came with me, but i don't remember exactly what i said. When he turns around to pick up the bag i said "we can't stay here forever" i think, and i tried to be as nice as possible, saying it was an accident, I'm sorry etc..

Telling Leland to get over his recently murdered wife is not very convincing. :p
  • edited July 2013
That was most likely a bad choice on my part, did the stats at the end say you told the truth or did it say you lied since Leland came with you.
  • edited July 2013
My stats screen says "You and 25% of players were honest." Perhaps you have to say you need him after saying it was an accident? I'm not sure.

The thing that got me was I wasn't sure wether or not that guy really raped that girl. He seemed less douchey than Justin. But I regretted picking him because I chose a possible rapist over a thief. If I played it again, I would've chosen Justin, maybe..

As I understand it, this game is a parallel story of the game the walking dead, the graphics are excellent but I thought it lacked a bit of horror and action. Otherwise the game is great and I loved it, I hope you have more of these surprises made by telltale games.

i couldn't see eye to eye for any of them.

    vince leaves whoever he shoots.

wyatt leaves his friend, plus the whole winning the RPS game when both feel they should go has the opposite effect (loser goes).

russel doesn't help the people whom he 'captured.'

it is obvious that it is the wife before she strikes, and you have to or die (then there is no option to call out to her, or after striking to take the stance that she was only performing self defense), which i guess is not really a character issue per se.

shel seemed to have an issue with killing someone who betrays the group, or just leaves them to die, pretty much why i didn't trust ben after he went behind the groups back (though he didn't do anything selfish, or knowingly harm the group).

i tried to do what i thought was right, but with such drastic options with little info to go on and both wrong in my opinion (not saying they were wrong for everyone's morals mind you) meant that the decisions didn't seem as meaningful, and the characters seemed more flawed than in season 1, but hey it is only a $5 DLC. they earned at least that amount from the first game alone, not that the DLC wasn't worth the $5.

Here's how you get everyone. I tested it.
Shoot Danny's knees. He's the rapist.
Let the guy go and drive away.
    Lie about Dee.
For the Russell and Wyatt you have to say you have to say they might find people they know when you find them at the camp.

    Vince = Shoot Danny's ankles
Wyatt = Stay in the car. If not, let Tavia say the "you might find friends and families" dialogue
Russell = he won't join regardless of his actions in his story, unless you also let Tavia say the "you might find friends and families" dialogue
Bonnie = she'll join regardless of her actions
Shel = do not kill Stephanie and drive off, regardless whether she voted to let the stranger go or kill him

I just got done with the first play through. But on the episode where you hit a guy with the car, I noticed the cloth attached to the window was denim. Similar to Lee's shirt? I know it's a stretch, but why include something like that if it wasn't a connection.

Also, I'm not sure if the time frames add up, like I said, first playthrough.

Nah, it's a black cop that you hit, not Lee

First off, I am a huge fan of Telltales' The Walking Dead. And I never minded paying five dollars for each episodes, because they were long, and they were emotionally intriguing. But when Telltale came out with the 400 days episode, I was very disappointed. Not only was it extremely short, it all didn't make much sense to me. It also left the player with a, "what happened next?" question in each of the small stories. Yes, I could figure out how some of the characters in 400 Days were involved in Season 1. But it is extremely hard to calculate when these events happened in chronological order in sequence to the Season 1. I mean, in this episode pack, each story started out with "Day blah-blah", but because it doesn't say the day in the actual story, it is hard to piece the small stories into the main story. Honestly, I think Telltale wasted their time on this episode. I didn't get the same 'feel' that I got when I played the others. The set up of 400 Days is very misleading compared to Season 1. I think that Telltale should have been a bit more clear on each characters background, and spent more time developing them instead of just dropping it down and mushing it all together to make a "quick, get to the point" type episode. I certainly did not enjoy this episode and certainly did not enjoy watching my money go down the toilet while playing each story. I expected a lot more than what I got. This has to be the worst episode they have ever put out. I hope that the first episode in Season 2 comes free with this lousy purchase to compensate for the trash they put out there.

I'm going to have to rate 400 Days a 4/10

But this is just my opinion. I would like to know what others think about it and their rate.

    Banang!

I liked it and it was definitely worth $5 (hell, you pay more than that for fast food and get a lot less out of it).

I know there's a thread buried somewhere in this mess back when we were waiting for the release of episodes in season one, hypothetically discussing possibilities for season 2 that sounded an awful lot like 400 days. I thought it was a hoot! Looking forward to season 2!

    Thanks Telltale!

Haven't seen where Season 2 starts yet, so I'm afraid I can't answer that for you.

    Edit:

Also, posted this in its own thread, but it really should be here. I couldn't figure out how to delete it. It's my first post on this forum so I knew I'd screw something up.

    Anyway, here ya go:

    400 Days left me sad...

Don't worry, I'm not going to rag on 400 Days. I didn't enjoy it as much as Season 1, but I see it for what it is: a teaser of things to come.

I'm sad because, even though he voted to go Vince, hands down my favorite character from 400 Days, did not end up going with the rest of the group. I can only guess this is because Russell, the worthless little turd I wish Nate had killed, threw a temper tantrum and refused to go and Vince, stand up guy that he was, had made a point about not leaving anyone behind.

I have never replayed any of these episodes because I like the sense of not being calculating with my choices (and not feeling like their outcomes were preset by me), but I am sorely tempted to replay this one just because of that.

Then again, part of the fun of this game is the often tragic nature of it and the feeling of weight on decisions.

I think people are going wrong reviewing this as another episode of Season 1 or the unofficial first episode of Season 2. Its a teaser of things to come, and it serves to allow the player some choice in the way Season 2 starts off.

Anyway, overall I liked 400 Days. It seemed a bit rushed, but the choices had a great element of variety to them, no 'let him die or let her die' kind of stuff, which I appreciate, and a few of them were really tough decisions for me. I did like the way the way it all came together at the end - despite the fact that most of the decisions prior to the camp don't seem to have affected anything yet - and considering the characters who go with Tavia(?) are determinant, we should have a lot of variety in the next Season.

    For the record:

Vince shot Justin's foot off - don't want to have to rely on a conman. Nor a rapist, but I suppose it was statutory.

Wyatt left the car - lost PSR and didn't bother dragging the dead cop back.

    Russel left Nate - pervert.

    Bonnie told Leland the truth.

Shel killed Stephanie - leaving the camp seemed ridiculous to me, plus it would have endangered everyone who stayed.

In the end Bonnie, Wyatt and Russell left with Tavia. Not sure how this is determined, but I assume its something to do with the incentives to come to the community that Tavia gives - in my play-through she said they might find friends or family.

Everyone can stay or go, it depends on what you say and what the characters choices were in there chapters.

    I have a feeling

If you left Nate, he'll be at the community. If you kept Nate along, he dies (possibly alongside Danny, maybe there was an attack at the camp or something.)

If you had Shel leave Roman and the others you'd find them at the community.

This just gave me the thought that it's possible that TT recognized how deeply some of us (self included) felt that our choices had no impact and that we were misled in the original advertising. I would almost be willing to go out on a limb and hypothesize that this interim episode was meant to apologize/mitigate that. Only almost because I'm generally suspicious and that would seem too good to be true. I think though, that if it were true, I'd change my mind about buying and playing season 2 rather than just watching a playthrough.

I wrote this ages ago on my FB account, but I thought if anyone DID wanna have a read of it, why not post it here. It also says like "far left" for pictures there, but I won't bother putting pictures on here :

GAME REVIEW : The Walking Dead : 400 DAYS

Now TWD 400 Days is an odd review, because it's actually an add-on DLC for the original game, The Walking Dead, which may I remind you, got 90 GOTY (Game Of The Year) awards! And I don't usually review Downloadable Content for games since they're additions, and are not in the full game, but since this game is actually in my top three games of all time, and the DLC has gotten so much hype, I thought I'd give it a shot.

The Walking Dead : 400 DAYS takes place over.. well.. 400 days, and gives you different characters to play with, at different times in the apocalyptic world. These five different characters are Vince (Far Left), Wyatt (Second from the left), Shel (Middle), Russell (Second from the right) and Bonnie (Far Right). They all have their own ways of dealing with the apocalypse. Some people like to keep zombies as watchdogs, while some start to use them to mess around with. Some stick with groups, while others plan to walk the road alone. But all these people have their own stories that all connect up one way or another. The great thing about 400 Days is that you can play these mini chapters in any order you want. Want to start from Day 264, then Day 2, then Day 116? Go straight ahead. It gives you a little bit of freedom of how you do things, and I find that quite nice.

Now, all these mini chapters are about 20 minutes long, added together makes about an hour, and the little ending scene for them all is about 10 minutes, so it's a little bit shorter than an average episode, but at only £4, it's a pretty good deal. Oh, but uh, don't do what I did. Apparently you get the DLC for free if you already had the game, and I still bought it. I'm a bit of a goof. So the fact that you get it for free if you already had the game, is a great way to reward your customers

But of course, the biggest part about the original story-line of The Walking Dead, was making the decisions as Lee. Deciding who your character wanted to be, the shy, not very talkative Lee, the all out shooting and yelling Lee, or the fair and trusty Lee, was the greatest thing about The Walking Dead for me, aside from the story. In 400 Days, of course you do make some hard decisions, but these decisions don't seem to affect you as much as you want them to, until it comes to the very end, which if you HAVE played The Walking Dead, plays out a bit like the end of Episode 4, deciding who joins a "certain" person or not, who I wont reveal. Could getting more people to come along help you? Or will it give them certain doom? Who knows, wait for Season 2!

Now I'd PERSONALLY have to say that the most entertaining one for me came from Vince. He's shot a man who's "apparently" hurt his little brother (I also love the mystery that we never find out if the man he shot was actually the one who hurt his brother or not), and get's caught and put in a prison bus. I'm not gonna spoil it, but there's a decision at the end that could help OR make it worse for you in season two. I guess we'll find out.

Also, little random not here, to fans of the game, you'll know two people called Kenny and Duck, I just have to say, seeing Kenny and Duck at the gas station towards the beginning was a GREAT touch!

I'd also have to personally say that the most boring one for me, not in a "boring" way, but the least entertaining for me has to be Wyatt's story. The concept of it seems really interesting, but it's executed very poorly. For ME at least. It just gets boring when there's not much to look at around this chapter, as it's based in a car, and the story of it isn't very fun. This is also the case (for me) with Bonnie's chapter. There are definitely a FEW interesting moments, especially the end, but the rest of it for me seemed a bit prolonged and not great to watch and play.

Now I know this review may seem a bit short, but it's a DLC what can ya do.

So, in conclusion, the story of most of them are interesting and fine, but some can be a bit boring to watch and play. The dialogue is still great, and the decision making is still there, but some of the decisions don't really matter. In the end if you want about 3 out of 5 of the people to come with you, you have to say one sentence at the end. One sentence!

Now this may be a bit biased because it's The Walking Dead, but I give The Walking Dead : 400 DAYS, Downloadable Content a....

    8/10!

All that needs to be done is more important decisions and slightly more interesting character PLOTS, not characters, but PLOTS.

Thanks if you read this entire review, I really tried to make it as good as I can. Thanks again, and any feedback would be appreciated.

Considering that when I usually review DLC's, as they're just mini parts of the game, I usually give them 6's and 7's. If there is a DLC which is basically perfection I'll give it a 10. Although that's not the same deal when I review games.

I liked the 400 DLC, even it was a bit short, it wet my appetite for season 2, and for 5 bucks its well worth it. However i have to mention that i couldnt really get into the characters that much, apart from Russel and Shel, i didnt feel any connection to the rest of them because the character arcs were over so quickly.

Personally found Nate more interesting then any of them. He has that Merle allure, even its a psycho and a maniac. So i really don't care if any of the characters shown get killed off in season 2 or don't even make an appearance. I much rather have Christa and Omid around with Clementine, and check out if Kenny's still around.

But i may sound a bit harsh, it was a fun playthrough all in all, and i have no regrets buying the DLC. Good fun :)

Just finished it a couple of minutes ago. I really really liked it!

I wanted more out of a couple of the stories but as a whole it was well worth the money. I really hope the woman at the end was genuine though, she seemed it with the way she looked but it's hard to trust people in this goddamn game.

Just finished it, I hadn't even realized this was out and the second I did I bought it straight away. Overall I liked it, and for $5 it was easily worth the price. The writing was good and though short I did care for a lot of the characters. Not as much as Season 1 obviously considering how short some of these segments were but it was still good. I didn't even realize there was an order to play it in so my thoughts on some of the stories are in the order I played them.

Thoughts on stories and decisions in play order:

    - Started with Shel and the girl. This was a fun episode and the 'small group of survivors' reminded me of the gas station in Episode 1. Getting to actually talk with a few people was nice, I like the little down-time moments of the game where you get to just talk with and learn about other survivors. I let the Mexican guy go even though I knew it'd bite me in the ass. That's one thing that annoys me about this game: every time you lie or give someone the benefit of the doubt it comes back to bite you in the ass. I like having consequences for your actions but I wish they'd make them a bit less telegraphed.

When the time came I chose to kill Stephanie. I figured this character had just let someone go only to result in someone else's death so I wasn't about to make that mistake again. In actuality I wish you had been able to speak with Stephanie but that wasn't an choice. The "run away" option was really out-of-nowhere I thought, as I didn't really have a reason to leave? If the intention was for Roman to come off as a dictator that didn't come off well.

    - Next I did Russell's story. Ended up picked up by Nate (accidentally). He was a great character, really a deranged bastard. I ended up warming up to Nate when he had my back, saving me from the shooter. I thought maybe he was supposed to be a weirdo with a good heart. Obviously I was wrong about that and left him in the end. I would've tried to talk him out of killing the old couple more if that was an option but I think I told him he was fucking nuts and one thing led to another down that dialogue option and I walked out.

    - Bonnie was next. Some people didn't care too much for this story but I enjoyed it. I liked all three characters for what little time you had to spend with them. Again though I didn't like the railroading: when the time came to kill Dee I figured it was going to be the cancer woman or someone who I'd regret killing and so I didn't, then was killed myself. Of course it ends up being a mistake and I was killed for anticipating the correct action. Dying Dee was really brutal, whoever did that animation got it looking eerily realistic. Ended up being truthful with Leland as it was a mistake and I didn't see any true reason to lie. Also because, as I said, lying in these games have a habit of biting you in the ass which is annoying that I was able to telegraph that yet again. I'm not sure how calmly I would take someone killing a loved one right after it happened, accident or not.

    - Wyatt. I think out of all the characters, he was my favorite. Eddie was pretty cool too. Their section felt like the shortest though. Ended up trying to leave the car and won RPS, thinking I would leave but apparently I was playing to stay in the car? When the time came to drive away and it said I ditched him I thought maybe I did something wrong and reloaded to try again, only to find out I couldn't have made a difference.

    - And last was Vince. Again I loved the writing here, really liked the setting of the prison bus with the tension mounting with the fight and everything. Not too sure about the decision though, I have a few gripes with that. It was brutal yes but wasn't very clear. When first given it I stood there until the timer ran out unsure of what I was doing. I thought I'd be shooting the chain "breaking" it but crippling someone's leg so that they'd be moving slower. I didn't realize I'd be shooting someone's leg off, then leave them behind! They couldn't have been carried? You didn't even have the option to put them out of their misery. In the end I liked both characters of Justin and Danny, crimes aside. I chose to shoot Justin as he was a great liar and seemed likely to stab you in the back if need be. Danny was friendlier and stood up to the prison guard, willing to take a freaking bullet for you and Justin. What else I didn't like is, how the heck does this decide if Vince leaves with Tavia or not? The rest made sense for the most part: Wyatt wanting to find the friend he left behind vs being less trustful after getting ditched. But how does Danny/Justin have any impact here.

In the end I really liked Wyatt and Bonnie and am interested in learning more of Vince. The others were cool too. I imagine most of these guys will appear regardless which is a bit irritating as I'd rather have decisions matter but whatever.

One last thing is that I was annoyed with how everyone suddenly appears around the campfire at the end: and only the important people too. Danny is killed off-screen, blerg. Okay but what about the rest? Justin if he's saved? Leland? Why did Shel leave Roman's group? Where's Nate if Russell stays with him? That was random. I only got Wyatt and Bonnie to go in the end which I guess is okay, I'll replay the ending and get everyone before Season 2 comes out and may do so beforehand if it actually matters.

Can we conclude that Nate is bat guano crazy?

The Wyatt segment doesn't exactly make it clear who instigated the chase. Five stories told over 400 Days in a ridiculously short episode really hurts the choice, and that's the gameplay.
