  • I sent a letter to the classification board, reading this:

    "To whom it may concern,

I am an adult living in Australia. As such, there is a R18+ classification for video games for games not suitable for children. However, according to your classification on 'THE WALKING DEAD: SEASON 2 - EP 2, A HOUSE DIVIDED', the game has been modified to fit into the R18+ rating. I am a working and paying man, and I do not see why R18+ games should be modified in the first place, there is a reason why it was given the R18+ rating. Here is a link for an interesting and relevant Youtube video I have found:
On top of this, games like GTA V have not been censored even smaller games (compared to GTA V) such as 'THE WALKING DEAD: SEASON 2 - EP 2' and 'State of Decay' are censored.

It seems like your mentality is that people will just copy what happens in games. Does everyone who plays GTA V become a Pimp? No. Does everyone who plays 'The Walking Dead: Season 1' want to chop someone's leg off, and eat them? No. We are adults, we know the difference between right and wrong. People who do extreme things because of video games most likely have mental issues anyway, and the general Australian public should not be punished like this for one or two outcasts."

Let's see what they reply with.

  • guys can we please keep this thread alive so that maybe someone from telltale will shed some light on the situation

  • Thanks for that, you are the hero we need, not the one we deserve.

I'm with you on this. Lets post our (polite and well written) concerns to the Australian Classification board about the difference between reality and fantasy, and the nature of censoring content that is already meant for adults only. Please add this to the title description. Show us your letters here forum, so we can share our various opinions about the topic with each other as well as the Australian Classification Board.

  • Maybe add some research data if that is available, or an article about it as well, such as this:

What was modified in 400 days? I don't recall any sex or drug use in my Australian version. (It says on the AUS classification board that 400 days has sex and drug use for some strange reason) Anyone in america, please tell me if there would be any obvious differences that you can see.

Can confirm. http://www.classification.gov.au/Pages/View.aspx?sid=WtwNDvxQvcjfK0TqUfdmMQ%3d%3d&ncdctx=VK%2f3zAW6nHyaBDN0u0Om%2f0z+oPYdYnmChtXpzCaISO0U4qY2l+%2f64LL1mlgLREeH Maybe it won't be so bad after all?

Another main point, is that if someone does have mental issues and is indulging them instead of seeking help, censoring one game will not stop them. If they are already getting kicks out of violence, they aren't going to have any trouble resorting to piracy or just watching SAW over and over again instead, which is a title which you guys DID allow into Australia.

  • For real though!

Well the board can go fuck themselves, you guys in New Zealand and Australia deserves to have as much fun as us in North America!

  • A Left4Dead2 example video:

The Aussie steam store still sells the "low violence" version...

Not TF2 rubber duckies though, so not quite as bad.

So, how does Australia censor this kinda stuff? Surely it can't be as bad as Germany's censorship. Know Team Fortress 2? I am 23 and have to watch people explode into rubber ducks and mono cycles. THAT sucks.

  • Wait, so what happened with TWAU Ep. 2 for Austrailians? Did they censor it? Just curious.

  • no it was uncensored here our board are inconsistent all the time it is ridiculous

most likely drugs cause our board thinks no one takes drugs in our country unless they play a game that has drug use seriously they need to get their heads out of their asses there are teens that do drugs here the government should focus on stopping that instead of as they like to call it protecting us seriously

I'm really hoping Telltale sheds some light on this themselves, this is a pretty serious issue affecting the content we receive, not to mention how much the content might be warped to be less enjoyable story.

  • This

I was at E3 where i met a guy who was doing studies om how gaming aids developement of things like hand eye co-ordination, lateral thinking, problem solving ability etc.

Someone who's goes postal after playing Postal is a fucking nutbag who would've found an excuse.

The classification thing really sucks ass for you guys. Australia is an awesome place. You guys deserve to get your games when everyone else does. If it's games are downloaded straight from the developer over the internet or on steam or something they should be classification free.

I don't believe in classifications anyway. They're no substitute for good parenting.

  • heheh :)

  • I dare say you could still get it if you put the effort in they had internet access at Tahrir Square despit the Egyptian government, it should be pretty easy to by-pass the censors if you go hunting, but it'd mean playing a fucking pirate and TT wouldn't get paid :(

Plus you'd lose your save files

    Jewfreeus posted: »

no it just means some part or parts will be cut out if telltale refused to cut it out then we would not be able to play it

  • There are always ways around, through or over anything on the internet, it's the Last Free State but it means bootlegs and they suck ass because the developer shouldn't be punished for a stupid government ruling, and with a pirate TT wouldn't get paid.

Piracy damages the whole industry, and it sucks that stupid censorship laws encourage it. I'm virulently anti-piracy when it comes to games, but if someone told me I had to play a censored version of my favorite game or worse not play it all I'd maybe re-consider my position and it's not right or fair.

The whole problem I have with censorship is it's basically just someones opinion, and usually the opinions of hopelessly outdated people.

What offends a 64 year old woman probably isn't gonna offend me. It's forcing opinions down peoples throats.

I live in Australia but I want to play the full game, not the shitty, cencored, torn to pieces game. Is there any way I can get around this? I really want to play the game that Telltale intended for me to play.
