I liked it too. For some reason, I also enjoyed hearing Larry's voice again for Johan the butcher.
Larry from TWD? I didn't even notice! Lol although I don't think the episode deserved the bad ratings that it got.
This was actually my favourite episode
I thought it was pretty good. I'm guessing some of the hate is coming from the ending.
How it ended was supercool. Simply a cliffhanger.
What I actually hated was the length as well as lack of story progression, but if we look on the other side, it's not that of a bad episode, because it literally summarized the end is near (Bigby met all of them with the Crooked Man as well. They know about Crane, that he's about to leave, and they'll have to rush to get him - which forces them to face Bloody Mary. etc etc). It created an excitement for me, and I'm sure for many others, however TTG could have divided and well-done all of that for a better episode.
It's a good episode, but disappointing a bit nonetheless.
I enjoyed it a great deal, but I think it was way too short. It did answer a few questions, but I finished it in about 75 minutes or so.
i hated not being able to hit georgie again
It was too short for most, though I understood that they needed to get us to the crooked man, I wish they would have added it so that when you go to the first place, they send you to the second, and when you go to the second, they send you to a third place where you have to say.... fight Tweedle Dee and get the shard.
I think the whole Wolf Among Us series has been going downhill. We didn't know what to expect from Episode 1, and it had an excellent pacing. Starts with an encounter with the Woodsman, then it proceeds into a who-dunnit with Faith's murder. It gives the player a choice to go to one of two places, and concludes it with a bar fight at the Trip Trap. Episode ends with a perfect cliff-hanger, where the player has no idea where the next episode will take them.
Unfortunately, the next episodes to follow the awesome 1st episode were entirely predictable. All of Ep.2 is investigating who is involved, and it only ends by telling us "Crane's involved". So now we're after Crane, and we spend the whole 3rd episode chasing Crane, only for the ending to tell us "It's the Crooked Man." So Ep.4 happens, and it's all about Bigby getting to the Crooked Man, and the ending is that "He gets to the Crooked Man."
I thought we'd go to the farm before episode 5, but from the preview at the end of Ep.4, it doesn't look like we'll ever see it. It's good to see that we don't have many leads or clues to Ep.5's plot direction, but I don't think the build up was properly executed throughout the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th episodes. Lackluster plot development with a slow pace. It's cool doing things as Bigby, but when it has very little to do with the narrative, such as smoking in The Cut Above or refusing to burn down the tree in Greenleaf's apartment, there's not much satisfaction to be had when the story doesn't put any attention to them.
Dee's a wimp so it wouldn't take long
I disagree very much and of course we ain't going to the farm bigby's not allowed there
Bigby is not allowed to go to the farm. He's banned from going there, so we were never going to see that place. It would have been pretty cool though.

I liked it because it was TWAU, but it sux dix because there was no "oboy" ending that made me want to see episode 5. Just them standing around. No emotional impact, like Bigby shot with a silver bullet, Crane revealed as being a stalking perv, or Snow White's head chopped off. The only reason I want to see 5 is to wrap it all up logically and find out the motive for the prostie killings.
It was like the last 30 mins of the episode got cut off.

I thought "the Butcher" part of the episode dragged a little bit, maybe because I figured Johann to be more menacing. I did not love the episode; I did not hate the episode, but once people started saying that the episode was done about 5 weeks after ep. 3 I honestly did not expect anything great.
The only episode of TWAU that i've been disappointed with is episode 2. Even then, it wasn't a big let down. The hate for these episodes, along with TWD, is just people being let down by their own expectations. Not saying don't have standards but don't blow these things out of proportion.
The only thing I disliked about episode 4 is that people kept bitching at me for killing Dee in the ally. Damnit, Snow, he freakin' shot me several times, I think it was well within my right to kill the guy.
It's also annoying that people keep chewing Bigby out for being too aggressive even though, aside from the aforementioned throat-tearing-out, I'm playing a relatively straight cop who just doesn't take obvious crap. It was good there was a dialogue choice to call Johanne out on that.
On the whole I have enjoyed the series I just don’t think that it has kept up with the possibility presented in the 1st episode.
In the game I was hoping to customize my experience through tough choices and enjoy a detective like experience.
This was epitomized in the first episode in my ability to search for clues and make consequential decisions that took place in the following manner.
I really enjoy the idea of prioritizing missions and having the following mission degraded as a consequence. If you went to Toad’s first Prince Laurence died and if you went to Laurence’s first Toad gave me such a dressing down I felt ashamed. These types of choices are made again in the series but mostly at the cost of exposition during that particular scene.
You had to successfully perform detective work at Toads in episode 1 to avoid having to knock him around for answers. Contrast this to our first trip to the “Pudding & Pie” it didn’t seem to matter how you treated Georgie you came to the same result. I think it would have been much more interesting if you were tearing up his establishment that he paid you off as well as giving you the key. (It didn’t sit well with me that you could repeatedly offer empty threat after empty threat and have him capitulate).
More focus should be given to detective like work.
The fact that I couldn’t attempt the myriad of questions I had been accumulating made me feel frustrated and stifled.
It was also frustrating to see important evidence (the Donkey Skin coat and Laurence’s knife) flitting about (in episode 4).
This really gave the appearance that Bigby was a blockhead. He didn’t need to know the answers I just needed to know that he has been asking the questions.
How I would solve this to have a scene each episode where Bigby is in his office. It would require any additional dialog (although a snippet or two always helps). This is a time where Bigby could review reports on evidence and suspects (styled much like the “Book of Fable” entries). Heck you could even have him pin up a photo of who he thinks the prime suspect is (and thus track the player). This would also have the added value by allowing the player a chance to reflect, and offering a break from being pulled along by the story.
Again not a bad experience, I just think could have been made exemplary if it provided more detail and greater variation.
Same here. The abrupt ending was my only problem with it.
I loved it honestly I thought it was the second best ep after ep 3, I don't know why anyone would dislike it apart from the length which has sadly seemed to become the norm for TTG games anyway. The ending was actually one of my fav parts of the ep aswell because I chose the smoke option & it cut to black as soon as Bigby lit the cig, amazingly badass and also the fight was Jersey was very epic in my opinion although it should have been longer & possibly in a better setting with more options to interact with the environment. Nevertheless I'm pumped for the finale!
I think they crammed too much and too little in at the same time, and didn't have enough time to flesh any of these things out, it felt weird when Jersey devil was mentioned to be in the gang with tweedles and bloody Mary, because we barely knew who he was.
I think a much better ending would just be letting us have the full conversation with the crooked man, and then it cuts to black before you start the fight or something.
I chose the "smoke" option as well for the end. Definitely badass.
Yeah same here. I think this episode was just build up for the next one
Like other people have said, the ending also struck me as being a bit off. Despite this being Bigby's first meeting with the "Big Bad" of the story, I didn't really feel like there was any tension there. He was just some guy with a deep voice and somewhat crooked face. I didn't feel threatened, I didn't feel vulnerable; I wasn't surprised, or seething with anger, or wondering what was going to happen next. I think they were trying to go for a sort of cliff-hanger thing like they did with TWD S1E4, but unlike in that scene, there just wasn't any urgency here. If he had captured Snow or Nerissa or if there were someone there whom I didn't expect to be there, then they might have had something.
Story progession was huge compared to the episodes 1-3.
But, for us on the forum, we had already figured 80% of what was revealed
Really?! I killed Dum and no one said anything to me about me killing him not even Snow.
I liked the episode, but 60 minutes seems to be too short:D
Yes just choosing [smoke] alone was badass.
I liked it... just can't believe it was so friggin short!!... i should've recorded my face when it ended like that.. and here i thought chapter 3 was short...
It is my favorite episode since episode 1 so i loved it.
I actually liked the episode a lot. It's definitely not my favorite but I thought it was good. Before I played it, I was expecting the worst since the majority of people said the game play length was short (only an hour) and not much had happened plot wise. I didn't feel like this episode was short--when I played episode 2, I thought that was REALLY short and I was disappointed.
I looked at this episode more as a whole, like what if I was playing the WHOLE game at once instead of waiting for months to go by to play the next one. And after the high tensions from episode 3, I think episode 4 was a good cool down episode. It was slower-paced and you got to meet new characters before the final showdown (which I hope is going to be EPIC). There wasn't too much of a sense of urgency in episode 4 but that's ok. I think episode 4 did its part in slowing down and letting us really think and make some final choices from things that popped up from earlier episodes, like sending Toad/Colin to the farm or helping Beauty and Beast after realizing they received loans from the Crooked Man.
I wasn't expecting to have the cliffhanger be at the Crooked Man's place, let alone having my choice as smoking a cig be the last choice I make. I thought smoking was more of a 'fuck you' to CM after he said to sit down in his chair :P It was badass!
Second or third favorite episode actually, I just didn't like the abrupt ending.
it wasn't bad,i really like it,can't wait for the next episode
I liked it but I felt like this is introduction to ep5
Which option did you choose? I chose smoking and thought it was just so awesome and badass :')
That was Larry?!?! Well I guess it's been a while since I've heard his voice, thanks for pointing that out!
I feel like you kinda dumbed down the other episodes other than the first to make your argument sound better :P
Some fans always seem to downgrade any episode (and this goes for tv too) that they call "filler", which I take to mean, not as much action or wow moments. They're mostly exposition or setting events in motion. Ive always hated the word filler because it implies that this is a bad thing. Without this connective tissue, there would be no story, or at least not a coherent one. I thought the episode gave us a lot of information toward actually solving the mystery and setting up for a big finale and it was still interesting and fun to play. We met a lot of new characters that I want to know more about too.
It wasnt 60 minutes. If you got through the game in sixty minutes, I am boggled by that. It took me an hour and a half and I didnt pause the game in any way, not even to read the Book of Fables which I like to do when they pop up.
The thing I enjoyed out of this episode was a lot of the choices you made in the previous episodes finally had some payoff in this one. Like who you lied to Beauty or Beast? or where you choose to go in episode 3 a lot of little things change, like more optional dialogue or items to investigate will appear in HUB areas. Plus the intro and the big fight with Jersey were very well done.
Terry McGovern is back on the TTG VA squad? I thought his voice sounded familiar...
