The All-new Nintendo DSi!!!!!

Opinions please! Go to nintendodsi.com. My opinion, Shorter battery life, no backwards capability, an unworking camera, and the suckiest Warioware game ever. (It's not even a game, it's like an app!) Nintendo doesn't screw up much, but this time they did. Save your yen.
Note: Another time they screwed up? Brain Age Squared. (Not 2, they had to be cute.) Complete waste of time.
Note: Another time is with mistreating Telltale's Games. LAG TIME IS FOR LOSERS!:mad::mad:

The Way I see it: Downloadable Games, Faster Web Browser, (surprisingly good for Wikipedia) Media Player, and larger screen.

However, the lack of backwards compatibility is a shock. At this rate, I might never finish sword of mana.

Also, don't say the DSi sucks for the one wario game. Every system has a fluke, and the game doesn't look that bad anyway!

It doesn't suck at all. The only thing wrong with it is that you can't play gameboy games on it. But really, you can pick up a GBA for $10 now, and who would want to play GBA games when you have all that DLC?
  • edited April 2009
Yeah, but what about like guitar hero, with that strum atachment? But if you think about it, if you got a DSi, you probebly already have a DS.

That game wasn't very good anyway. If you need a music game, get rhythm heaven.

DLC. :D Bad Music Quality. :( Fun Photo-apps! :D Shorter Battery life. :( Faster browser. :D Still a bad browser. :( Bigger screens. :D No BC or GH. :( TWO cameras. ?

    oh thank god.

you know, i just noticed that the DSi came out today.

I was mostly bummed because they announced this a few days after I payed 50 bucks to get my DS lite repaired. Kind of an investment so I'm just gonna wait and see. The whole thing with partially-exclusive games has way too much of a Game Boy Color vibe for me.
  • edited April 2009
May as well buy one because sooner or later they're gonna switch to DSi only cartridges regardless of whether they need it or not.

Huh? There are no "DSi Cartridges", and the DSiware store seems to be a place for apps and small games as opposed to the larger card-based games. I don't see Nintendo ONLY releasing any "full" game digitally, especially popular titles like a full Pokemon or Mario title.

What was wrong with the Game Boy Color?
  • edited April 2009
    Bigger screens? Yes.
    DSi-Enhanced games? Yes.
    Louder volume? Yes.
    Awesome photo manipulation? Yes.
    DSi Shop? Yes.
Possibility (I said possibility.) of a Virtual Console? YES.
Did I get a DSi? HELL YES. :D

Actually they said there would be games that still work on both the DSi and DS, games that had DSi only enhancements, and finally DSi only titles (which would be the only reason I would pick one up).

The Game Boy color sucked for having a few good exclusive games that those without one couldn't enjoy.

But the color was basically the same as the Advance compared to the Color, wasn't it?

And well sure, but he DSi games would just be "Camera Funtime Studio" or something. They'd have to rely on DSi-exclusive hardware, which is just a camera.

No see, that doesn't fit with their usual business model. All GBA games worked on the original GBA, the SP, and the Micro. All DS games have worked on the Lite as well as the fat DS. Other than technological limitations that exist between platforms, Nintendo has yet to do that.

If they come out with a few really good downloadable games for DSi, I'll consider getting one. Until then, it seems like a bit of a downgrade to me. I just can't give up my backwards compatibility and battery. Now, if they released a hand held that could play all gameboy games and had the DSi's additions.......

Ha! That is one of the most uneducated things I have read in a while. When has a GBA game been playable on GBC? Most GBC games were GB games with few (or no) improvements.

I haven't checked out the DSi, but my friend who did some popular video reviews of the DS Lite (back in 2006) had this to say about the DSi: "Nintendo DSi = ***** (/5). Even better hardware design, long overdue app store, camera is the killer app! "

"The processor, which is a Z80 workalike made by Sharp with a few extra (bit manipulation) instructions, has a clock speed of approx. 8 MHz, twice as fast as that of the original Game Boy. The Game Boy Color also has four times as much memory as the original (32 kilobytes system RAM, 16 kilobytes video RAM). Additionally, the Game Boy Color could address more ROM, allowing games as much as eight times the maximum size of those for the original Game Boy. The screen resolution was the same as the original Game Boy, which is 160x144 pixels."

Apparently the Color had more improvements to it than just the screen.

I hope Nintendo lets someone release a certain Lucasarts Virtual Machine software on the App store.

Yep, it did, but it wasn't really considered a new generation like the Advance was. The design was pretty much the same, the box they came in remained pretty much untouched and only GBC-exclusive cartridges were different from the old ones (which weren't many until nearly the GBA release and until then most were basically coloured versions of old GB classics like Link's Awakening).

Still, there are no plans for any DSi-exclusive retail game yet, so it might take a while, and since there's no real technical improvement (there is, but it isn't for games apparently) I don't think developers will rush to create them and miss quite a lot of the user base.

The internet thing... is it only internet through playing games or can you go on the 'actual internet'? But with restrictions? Trying to work out how to use it and I'm sure you can get on the proper internet...

It's just a browser. Based on Opera. It's kinda clunky interface-wise and not the best solution, but you can use it.

The DS is my favorite portable game system of all time. The GBA slot on my DS never saw any use and i don't mind seeing it removed. I do mind about shorter battery life but... It's a small comprise. I may get one down the road:)
  • edited April 2009
The DSi is so cool. I never even noticed the shorter battery life. Ever since I lost my MP3 player, I needed something to play my music and now I have one.:D

I miss playing Kirby's Dreamland 2 and Pokemon Yellow... My Gameboy Pocket died some time ago...

Technically the DS and GBA are parallels, they SHOULD still be making GBA games.

This is the first time I have heard that. It's clear why they don't make GBA games anymore...

If anything, the Wii and Gamecube should be parallels.

I'm basically broke, so I'm not getting a DSi anytime soon :(

Nintendo's "parallel" schpiel was a load of bull from the start. Basically, they were just saying that they would continue making GBA games for as long as it was profitable. Like any game company does. Hell, I think we even get new PS2 releases from time to time, though only in the form of "Ben 10 Alien Force: The Aliensomething Whatever".
