When I was about 5, I had a demo disc from Lucas Arts. I mostly played 'Dark Forces,' which was far from an Adventure game [though still fun ] but one day I booted up 'Full Throttle' and fell in love. I instantly begged my mum for the full game, and I ended up having to wait almost a year, but it was worth it! I still have it, and I still love it. I'm now 16.
My first adventure game was when I was 5 and it was Putt Putt Goes To The Moon which was made by the same compony that makes another game which is one of my favorits called Spy Fox which is sort of like Sam and Max but less silly.
I guess I was about 12 when I first discovered adventure games. A friend of mine got a new computer and we played several FPS like Duke Nukem and Wolfenstein. Then one day we got hold of a copy of Monkey Island, and we both fell in love (with the game of course:p)
After that followed MI2. Then probably full throttle and later on Grim Fandango, The Longest Journey and Broken Sword. Then I were about 16 I guess...
I have played some Sierra adventure games later on like Gabriel Knight and Leisure Suit Larry, but never really felt the same way about them(altough I must be the only person that really hated GK2 and loved GK3). Sierra makes great games, but when it comes to adventure games, I'm more a LucasArts person...
I didn't play Sam and Max HTR before I was 18. Now I'm 20.
I was only 5 when my brother got "Sam and Max: Hit the road."
Was better at it than he was, and he was 13 :P
after that i picked up "Day of the tentacle," was fun, but i never got another one till i saw the new Sam and Max.
A year of begging parents = Epic win.
For me, I think the first adventure game was "Le Manoir de Mortevielle" (Mortville Manor) on Atari ST from the french company Lankhor but I found it too difficult for me (but a really great game). It was with Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (on Atari ST too) I realise I like adventure games (in fact, much more the funny ones). It was in 1990, I was 12-13. I'm 29 now. I won a compilation called "Planète Aventure" from Ubi Soft (the french publisher for LucasFilm Games) with "Indiana Jones and the last crusade" and "Maniac Mansion"... And I found Maniac Mansion really great (it was the first adventure game I finished without the solution). Shortly, I had "Zak McKracken" and "The Secret of Monkey Island"... For Monkey Island, I remember that it was really annoying to change disk really often... And when I finished it, it was very late (like 1 or 2 am) and I found the message at the end of the game : "Eteignez votre ordinateur et allez-vous coucher" (Shutdown your computer and go to sleep) really funny because so true
Then, it was a break with adventure games because the new LucasArts adventure games was not anymore available for Atari ST but for Amiga, PC and Mac... I remember the first time i saw DOTT and Sam&Max was from a neighbour... I had to wait until my first PC in 1995 to play again... I bought every LucasArts from the LucasArts classics collection until... Sam&Max Hit The Road ! (and later all the new ones)
I guess I was about 10 years old. My first game was "Lost Secret of the Rainforest," one of the Sierra EcoQuest games. For a science nut like me, I loved scanning everything and learning about stuff (this same trait appeared later in life when I played Metroid Prime). Shortly after, I got my hands on "The Search for Cetus" and had a blast with that as well.
Seeing how I liked these type of games, Mom got me a copy of Willy Beamish, not fully realizing what kind of game it is/was exactly. Hooooooo boy...
I also remember Full Throttle in my high school years.
I must have been around 11 or 12 when I started playing. I think I started with Sierra adventures like Quest for Glory and Leisure Suit Larry in CGA mode, and I have also played various text adventures including the famous Colossal Cave Adventure. I would often get stuck halfway through, probably because I would not be familiar with some English words or idioms.
In those days, I played just what I could copy from friends. The first LucasArts game I played was actually Sam&Max Hit The Road (which I couldn't finish either) and years later Grim Fandango when that was released (and which made a great impression). I've caught up with many great LucasArts titles like the Monkey Island series since then.
Me, I started at around age 10 (I'm now 28). The first game I played was Leisure Suit Larry 1. )
It's somewhat disturbing to hear how many children where actually playing Leasure Suit Larry. In retrospect that was so inappropriate (although at that age, I didn't realize what half of the game was about).
Hey fellahs! This guy just bought a pink cherry-flavored lubricated lubber!
> What a pervert!
Well, if you count Cyan's early games (Manhole, Cosmic Osmo, etc.--I'm not the only one who remembers those, right?) as adventure games...since I was 5 (I'm 21 now). If you don't count those as adventure games, well, I think I started poking around with Adventure when I was 6 or 7.
(I never did finish the game, though. Mostly because my dad couldn't find where he'd put the map he'd made of those stupid mazes.)
I think was 6 or 7 when I started playing stuff like Freddi Fish, Pajama Sam, Spy Fox, etc. Once I was 10 those games seemed kind of boring, and I never played another adventure game until Sam & Max Season 1 just a few months ago. Now I am 13.
I suppose the first adventure game I played was back in the early 80's, and was either the original Zork, or Adventure for the Atari. Yes, I still love that game and yes, the damn dragons can still startle me when they burst onto the screen with that booming roar of theirs. To quote Strong Bad: "Somebody get this freakin' duck away from me!"
After that, it was every Sierra game. Except Mixed-Up Mother Goose. Are you kidding? I was playing Leisure Suit Larry--I was too old for that kid stuff!
I remember this game... Spy Fox and Pajama Sam!!! I was about 7/6 years old and those games were quite fun, kinda like Sam and Max. Puzzles and all... They're being released for the Wii, so I'm kinda hyped up. lol, I'm 13 now. Or 12. Or 14. 12-14. You guys can guess.
I never really played adventure games (I had- and it pains me to admit this- a Blue's Clues game when I was, like, six), until about 2 years ago with Sam & Max Season 1. I'm 58 now. Or maybe 12. Or 6. Or maybe even 2 or 16 or 29. Who knows? (Me.)
Gee, I must've been about 9 or 10 when I started. My very first adventure game was The Secret of Monkey Island. I fell in love with it instantly. I ended up going through a lot of floppies hoping I could find other games like it. I eventually found Maniac Mansion and my love just grew from there.
First game I played was Leisure Suit Larry, on my fathers laptop that be brought home from work. One of those old, clunky Toshiba ones with an orange screen.
I'm feeling rather nostalgic these days... what the heck.
My first real memories of adventure games were back around 1992 or so, when I was 12. I remember playing bootleg copies of LSL, LSL2, LSL3, LSL5 on my friend's PC. Then maybe around 14 my parents finally caved and bought me a computer and I was able to start playing some of the KQ games (IV and V are the first games I got my hands on) and quickly fell into the LA awesomeness of S&M, DotT, Indy, etc. Good times.
King's Quest 1 VGA remake was my first adventure game and I was probably 13. Now I have all the King's Quest and Space Quest games. Also I have some of the old Lucasarts games.
The very first online game ive every played was orgeon trail, when i was around the age of 8 or 9 and now im 23 and orgeon trail is still badass!!!!!!!
I used to hate adventure games so I never played any until I was 12. The first adventure game I played was Grim Fandango when I was 12 (which is the best game I have ever played). Ever since then I've bought nearly all LucasArts games, all the Space Quest and Kings Quest games and a lot of other adventure games like Dreamfall, Broken Sword and Sherlock Holmes. I think (since nearly all my PC games are adventure games) I am huge adventure game fan now...complete opposite of what I was a few years ago.
Erm, I think I may have been around 8ish when I started playing adventure games? Not sure expactly, my family always played them and so it was organic for me to start. The first one must have been one of the Monkey Island (one or two) or maybe Day of the Tenticle. Though at the tim I also played Sam and Max and the Fate of Atlantas, oh and I remember the Hand of Fate from Westwood Studios, that was brilliant. Disc World was good too from what I can remember. Obviously at that time I wasn't great at them and often got help from my family. Now I just use Walkthroughs haha.
hmmm I don't even know the name of my first adventure game.
It was one of those games where you type in the action you want to take. Looking back on screen shots it could have been one of the first king's quest games. My memory is very fuzzy on this since this was probably the first grade.
I think my first real adventure that I remember clearly was monkey island. It was fun to play as a kid since you couldn't die. I played it at my uncle's place since I didn't have a computer. I was 8.
Leeeet's see, I was about 10 or so when I finally figured out how to install King's Quest VI onto our Windows 95 PC, and I loved it. I saved very often, because, well, it's Sierra, and they like to kill you. I'm 21 now.

No problem.
in less than 5 months I turn 18
in less than 10 hours I'll be taking a math exam ---> this...blows!
It only gets worse as you get older...
Anyway, I guess I much have been around the age of 22-23 - am now 42 - and it was probably a Sierra game. Hmm, maybe Leisure Suit Larry
After that followed MI2. Then probably full throttle and later on Grim Fandango, The Longest Journey and Broken Sword. Then I were about 16 I guess...

I'm old. Ugh.
I am now 14.
Oh I'm 20 now by the way!

The puzzles in that one were really hard, but the witty dialog made it worthwhile
Not remotely. I was trying to serve up some funny
