Telltale Racing!!

....Telltale racing (think Mario kart with Sam, Max, wallace, gromit, Strong Bad, etc)

I think this would be a rather neat concept: Telltale racing.
It would probably be developed for Wii, in a similar style to MarioKart.
Here's a basic layout:
You can select a location, character an vehicle and start racing solo, in time trials, via WiFi or in multiplayer mode.
The more races you complete, the more vehicles, scenes and characters and power-ups you can unlock.

Characters
Sam, Max, Mr. Spatula, Bosco, Sybil, Jimmy, Brady Culture, Whizzer, Peeper, Specs, Myra, Mr. Featherly, Ted E. Bear, Superball, the President, Abe, Sybil 2.0, Bosco 2.0, Sam 2.0, Hugh Bliss 2.0, Slime, Harry Moleman, Hugh Bliss, Max of Violence, Max of Greed, Max of Sloth, Flint Paper, Maimtron 9000, Girl Stinky, Timmy, Mary, Santa, Christmas Past / Present / Yet-to-come, Babies (Hoffa, Earheart....), Jurgen, Jurgen's Monster, Momma Bosco, Grampa Stinky, Mariachis, Beelzebub
Wallace, Gromit, Cooker, Feathers McGraw, Mr. Paneer, Mrs. Gabberly, Constable Dibbins, Ms. Flitt, Major Crum, Nutters, Duncan McBiscuit, Shaun, Poodgie-Woo and Tinkie-Wee
Strong Bad, Homestar, Marzipan, Coach Z, Strong Sad, Strong Mad, King of Town, Homesar, Bubs, The Cheat, Pom-Pom, Trogdor, Cheat Commandos, Dangeresque, Dangeresque Too, Perducci, Sultry, Cutesey
Fone Bone, Smily Bone, Gran’ma Ben, Dragon….
Harry Weinhead, Dudebro, Grandma Shakey, Boris Krinkle
Grissom, Warrick….

Locations
Straight Street, West Wallaby Street, Reality 2.0, Town Centre, Stuttgart, Stormy England, Underground Cave, The House, North Pole, The Fair (Wallace & Gromit / Bone), Bermuda Triangle, Country Club, Spaceship, Queen Bee Chase road, Hell, The Moon (Sam & Max / Wallace & Gromit), Las Vegas, Prismatology Retreat, Crime Scenes 1 – 6, Strong Badia, Boneville, Brain Blow City, Gran’ma’s Cabin, Bar/Saloon and Cow Race

Vehicles – (Still under construction. Feel free to suggest more vehicles!)
Desoto, Presidential Desoto, Soul Train Car, DangCAResque, Safari Riverquest box, Cow, Squad Car

This would be a great a great original follow-up to Telltale Texas Hold'em.

We've already basically seen the engine for this in the driving sections in Sam and Max. :D

Don't forget Guybrush and the Monkey Island gang as well. But yeah, I'd buy it.

Well, for a vehicle idea, you you use a pirate ship for Monkey Island.

wheres the monkey island characters :(

Yeah, sorry about that. It's mainly due to the fact that I am currently relatively new here at Telltale (about 5 months or so). And I've never actually played a Monkey Island. But if I had played them, they would be on this list. For sure.

ALSO: Would anyone be interested in driving the Haunted DeSoto?

The only problem is that very few Kart games are equell to or better then Mario Kart. Tell-tale would have to REALLY go overboard to make the game worth it. But being a small company, that would destract from the adventure games we know and love. That's my 2-cents.

This would be a great game, but there are one too many characters. Especially the ones that don't really need to be in it. A few characters would be: Mr. Spatula, all the 2.0 characters, Maimtron 9000, the 3 emotional Max's, Timmy, Mary, Christmas past, present and yet-to-come, the babies, Cheat Commandos, Poodgie-poo, Tinkie-wee, and all the Dangeresque characters. These are the people that have no need to be played in this game, so if anyone has a complaint, let me know A.S.A.P. because i'm going to rant pretty soon about some of the racing courses.

Mr. Spatula and the Maimtron 9000 are two of my personal favorites.

However, looking back at the locations, several are not needed. Such as Brain Blow City. Pointless.

Regardless, I get your point. What I had in mind originally was that you'd obtain most all of the main characters in the beginning and then, through several racing trials, you could unlock lesser important characters....

Honestly, after 64, the annoying "if you're in last you're rocket blasted to the front" mechanic they added in got REALLY annoying. I keep coming back to Mario Kart on the SNES and 64, but I barely touch my DS copy even though there is no other reason not to fire it up on trips.

And I'd rather not see something like this, personally. Telltale represents the only company to do episodic right in my mind. You can't do an episodic racing game, though. Telltale is also probably the best of the companies making story-based games at the moment. I'd rather not see that diverted into Nintendo knock-off party, sports, and brawler titles.

Ok, I'm with you on some of the characters, but the dangeresque characters can be alternate costumes to the actual sbcg4ap characters, along with the cheat commandos can be alternate costumes to the cheat.
    Just saying.

I respect that. There are several people here who think Telltale should stick only to the episodic adventure games. However, there are people who are in favor of a TTTH2.

Again, I'm just throwing this out there. And perhaps I did go overboard on this a little. Just one question: do you think Telltale should do a racing game, even if it's in the faraway future.

    Sorry for any upset,

This is actually a pretty good idea. I can just imagine some of the things Max would say in this game..

Basically, I don't see how it would work for me. Telltale works as a story-driven company, or at least character-driven. I'm not really fond of Telltale Texas Hold 'Em, nor am I too fond of their non-episodic CSI games.

I might be fine with a breach of genre if it was still a heavily story-focused game, but a racing title really doesn't have the means by which to tell a story through the gameplay of racing. It just doesn't work, and I think it'd be a waste of the writing talent they have.

I'M BAAAACK! Now to talk about the race courses that aren't needed in the game.

Bermuda Triangle, Strong Badia, Underground Cave, Hell, Gran'ma's Cabin, The Prismotology Retreat and Brain Blow City. These do not need to be in the game. If any of you have a problem with my suggestions, reply to me ASAP. But now, i need to take a washroom break(1-2 hours).

I HAVE RETURNED FOR MY SEQUEL: The Revenge of the Guy Who Talks About the Things In Telltale Racing! Now playing in a post near you. Anyway, here are only a few vehicles that you could add to the game...

The Toy Mafia car, Santa's sleigh and (possibly) the Luner Lander. If anyone objects to these suggestions, speak ASAP, or forever hold your peace!

Yeah. That's one of the things that bothers me about strictly closed and strictly held IP in general... The proposed game would be perfect as some sort of add-on/expansion to Mario Kart Wii instead of something rebuild from scratch!

Reinvent the wheel each time is a waste both for developer and users.

... Maybe an add-on/expansion to SuperTuxKart?? :D That would be nice to see!

I'd actually quite enjoy this idea for the Wii, if it was ever released you can put my name down on the sales-sheet :)

It's a bit of bother considering the relatively limited market though, isn't it? I mean, from my own understanding, Smash Bros and Mariokart etc. have always been so popular because once upon a time nearly every gamer had sonic/mario/etc. In his game-draw. I'm not sure TTG have that kind of support, but then again i'm sure anything half-decent would do well on Wii considering the current Wii portfolio (worst games ever), and LeChuck, Elaine, Guybrush, Sam, Max, Bosco, Wallce, Grommitt, the evil chicken-penguin, et al. seem similarly star studded to Mario & co.

Please stop. I want nothing more but this thread to be over with. I get what you're saying, but I just want this ended.

    No hard feelings, though.

Y'know.... I hate when people bumb dead topics like this.... it annoys the holy hell out of me.... I mean 3 friggin' months!!!!

That being said... There is no way in hell that they could fit that many characters in the game. Even if they could fit them in, the sales would be terrible... so why even bother?

Murray riding with a hell car of death and destruction! Max gets one too!
  • edited October 2009
Murray should be a part of a car, like a bad ass hood ornament!

He can't be a character, unless he used Santino's body...

I'd buy it if it was cheap, just for the novelty value, but I see no reason why they would bother venturing into racing games.

You'd definitely have to have a comedic spin on it, but Trackmania is amazing and the perfect inspiration.
