I have to give priority to all games without voices. Once they're all remade, they can start in with graphical upgrades for the ones that already have voices.
I agree. I can live without voice over but it helps. It's hard to sell games to friends who aren't aware of adventure games that lack VO. I had to actually play Escape to hook my roommate on Monkey Island instead of starting at the beginning. (I would've played Curse but I was unaware of Scummvm at the time.)
He just wasn't interested in the text only - he didn't mind the graphics, but the lack of VO killed it for him. He's psyched for the SE though.
MI2 is obvious. After that I'd go to Grim Fandango which rather desperately needs a control update. I don't think I'd care about any other special editions, everything else is either fine as it is or I don't care enough about it as a game.
Yeah, I think that MI2 and DOTT (and possibly The Dig) are the most likely... however I do love all of those as they are, and think that if they did remake them they wouldn't be particularly stunning compared to the originals. (especially The Dig, which had amazing cut-scenes)
I think they might do quite well with a SE of Loom, for some reason.
It's a great game and really nice concept. I think with newer graphics and an enhanced soundtrack it could be even more amazing. (It was still awesome for its time, but something about it still feels empty to me, and I think a SE version would just give certain presentation aspects that little extra something)
MI2 would feel kind of like having a missing tooth in your mouth - that distracting, weird empty feeling. It'd be weird if it was the only non-updated one.
I can't really see how they'd update DOTT, Full throttle or sam & max. The artstyle is perfect, the sound and voices are perfect, the controls are perfect....
Imo, they'd be much better served to do the earlier games. I've never played The Dig, so i'd like to see that updated, although i might just get it on steam. Maniac mansion has already been updated and looks great. They could make that version official and if possible, get bernard's voice actor from DOTT and make the whole game voiced. Although with the amount of characters you can choose at the start, i don't know how they'd manage that.
If the #LECSteam Twitter (linked from the official Lucasarts Twitter) is to be believed, we'll be seeing MI2:SE on Sept 8th.
Pretty sure #LECSteam is just a trending topic. They posted this not long ago: @lucasartsgames@JohnnyWalker2K1 this would be the only LucasArts Twitter, we will be doing all announcements for further Steam releases here!
Well I dont know about you but I'd love to see MI 4 in 2D. I've always thought that if it was 2D and not in 3D it was going to be a better game. When they released it in 2000 year the 3D 3-rd person was still too crap. Don't know why they chose it to be that way and not leave it in the classic 2 dimensions but with better art realisation.
But it was linked from the official LucasArts Twitter account. Why?
As I said, it was a trending topic. People use those to find what other people are saying about a topic. It was not meant as a username, someone just went and made one to confuse/prank others.
LeChuck's Revenge was pretty much a continuation of the same game of Secret of Monkey Island, it was released straight after and (with the CD version of SOMI) shared the same interface. It would be a shame to have Secret redone but not its immediate sequel.
So for me, my vote is for Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge Special Edition all the way.
As for Curse of Monkey Island (originally in 640x480 resolution), for those with a monitor which can do 1280x1024 resolution (alas, mine is widescreen), it can be run in ScummVM with the "hq2x" filter, which effectively pushes it up to high-definition (albeit with no extra detail, just less pixellation), which works very well with its 'cartoony' graphics.
LeChuck's Revenge for sure. After that I'd yet love to see The Fate of Atlantis Special Editionized. Those two are my favourite Lucas adventures anyway.
I think MI2 is a given now that TTG has done the first one. I'd love to see DoTT redone n perhaps extend a new story to the series. i have DoTT on CD n still play it from time to time love it! Its sad that LucasArts dumped most (if not all??) their non-starwars projects...
I think MI2 is a given now that TTG has done the first one.
How is TTG's "Tales of Monkey Island" telling anything about LucasArts doing "Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge - Special Edition"? I fail to see the connection here...
@Laserschwert, i guess Bundybear thought that TTG has made the SE.
I don't know which one will be the next, IF there will be a next, because there only will be a next, if the big buck is coming to LA.(Much more than just the nine months of work has to be paid.
The Dig needs a remake. But just graphically though, because the voice acting is great as it is. It's already really cinematic in its presentation anyway, but imagine all those awesome cutscenes rendered with modern graphics, especially playing it on an HDTV through XBLA!
Excuse me....I think I need to go change my undies now.....
Loom would be fantastic. HD graphics and an orchestrated soundtrack would fit like a glove to one of Lucasarts' best pieces of art. They could easily fit there the old dialogues from the talkie version.
Although I think Loom is perfect as it is, I'd love to see it redone if only for the chance that it could lead to the release of the Forge and the Fold.
I also vote for Monkey Island2. Seems like the most natural choice for a Special Edition. Monkey2 is hard to get your hands on these days and even then you need ScummVM or Dosbox to get it to work. I think it could use the upgraded graphics and voice acting just like LucasArts is doing with Monkey1. With a special edition, a new generation can experience this classic! And who doesnt want to see the spitting contest in full HD glory
I actually think that Curse of Monkey Island is near perfect the way it is; the cartoonish graphics work just as well today as they did in 1997, maybe just increase the resolution. They should more or less just release MI3 as it is, and just upgrade the resolution, make sure its windowsXP/Vista/7 compatible, and maybe update the interface.
All the other ones in the poll should be remade too

LucasArts is releasing The Secret Of Monkey Island Special Edition sometime this summer, to XBOX Live Arcade and PC digital download(probably thru Steam). Its LucasArts, not Telltale who made it.
Maniac Mansion or Zak McKracken. The reason why is simple: They need it the most, and they have the least to lose artistically.
Even with Monkey Island 1 (which was a pretty early VGA game) I think they actually made it look worse. Zak and MM don't have a real polished art style so there's more room to improve them without feeling like they've butchered something or made it worse.
They'll split it into episodes. So I vote for no remakes. Leave my 1990's alone.
Why are you so obsessed with complaining about episodes? Almost every post you've made so far has been gibberish about how badly you hate episodes.
I don't see how a game being separated into individual sections or not is more important to you than the puzzles, dialogue and storyline. Are you mental?
I think LucasArts needs to establish what it's doing in today's market. I definitely think going for Indiana Jones would be a wise choice as the franchise already has a fan base, then obviously MI:2 can move on from where SMI left off. Once LucasArts have made enough money to consider the Special Edition formula worth while, we could see all the games "special editionised" (or at least ported for the talkie games, maybe with better resolutions!)
I would really like LucasArts to release a collection of Special Editions on the Wii. P+C has never been so good now we can sit on the sofa, and the Wii Remote feels very natural for adventure games, and I imagine SMI:SE would be far more enjoyable for the Wii.
But essentially, LucasArts needs to build up a following with the current generation gamers, and build up a catalogue of these wonderful special editions!!!
Definitely Monkey Island 2 - then Fate of Atlantis.
Not only are they fantastic games, I have such a hard time getting my setting right on my computer to play them - even if I have them memorized, I love playing through them.

To be honest, i want from every adventure a SE.

Same with The Dig. Don't change a thing.

Loom, I think, also has some potential.
