you'd have opportunities to comment on Mondays

That's something that really bugs me about Garfield. He doesn't have a job. So what, exactly, is his issue with Mondays? That joke only works if you have a Monday through Friday/Saturday job. If you don't, then Monday is just another day.

    (Yes, I'm overthinking it. :p)

No, it's something that's always bothered me as well (although I myself have a tendancy to 'over-think' things). But I feel that most fictional characters tend to have a lot of their creators shining through them, so it isn't Garfield who hates mondays but Jim Davis.

Garfield hasn't been funny since funny was invented.

Is this what Jake meant? Garfield Minus Garfield is comic genius. But the game would be bleak and sad. I'd cry...

Not really ironic, but it is a loop that always fascinated me. I would actually be pretty surprised if the Lorenzo Music connection wasn't a big part of the inspiration for casting Bill Murray as Garfield later.

Actually, bill murray did the role to tribute Lorenzo music because he felt bad because he was voicing Venkman in the cartoons. But he felt bad, after he died, and offered to the role as respect.
