No, it's something that's always bothered me as well (although I myself have a tendancy to 'over-think' things). But I feel that most fictional characters tend to have a lot of their creators shining through them, so it isn't Garfield who hates mondays but Jim Davis.
Not really ironic, but it is a loop that always fascinated me. I would actually be pretty surprised if the Lorenzo Music connection wasn't a big part of the inspiration for casting Bill Murray as Garfield later.
