The Movie Thread
Hey-o! Chuck and Zach here. @zachiscool3
Considering the 2015 and 2014 movie threads that I've created, Zach and I wanted to create a thread revolving around movies in general! Zach and I are mainly going to be reviewing movies here. We want to help you guys discover that next hidden cinematic gem that needs to be seen. We also want to help you consider watching a movie before wasting your money on it.
So basically, just talk about movies! Feel free to express your opinions on any movie you love or hate.
However, if it's a 2015 or 14 movie, you should check out these threads here. That way it's more consistent.

I recently rewatched the Amazing Spiderman movies and I am so, so, so pissed that they are rebooting it again. Imo the 2 Amazing Spiderman movies were fucking great and are personally some of my favorite superhero movies. The new guy they picked looks like he is 10 years old. Like, I know that Spidey is supposed to be young but not so young as it looks like he is in the 8th grade.
In general, I'm pissed. Maybe if his performance in Civil War is good (I don't even get how they're putting him in that movie since in the comics he does something huge and considering he doesn't even have an individual movie idek) I'll stop being so angry, but I still wish they had just made a third one with Andrew Garfield.
Side note: I just realized it looks like what I'm mainly pissed about is the actors, and that is a reason but not the whole one. The AS movies were setting up a really cool storyline with Peter's dad and the whole conspiracy there and I wanted to see where that would lead. Doc Oc was also being heavily teased + they could have done more with Green Goblin
Wait, why would they reboot something that has already been rebooted?
I've only seen the first Amazing Spiderman, and I thought it was actually pretty good! Heard a lot of bad stuff about the second one, so I avoided it. I thought Andrew Garfield did play a pretty convincing Spiderman though. He got the personality and things just right. At least in the first one.
They're rebooting it again so it can fit with the MCU (the universe that Avengers and all their hero's indivual movies take place in in case you didn't know), and so Spidey can be apart of Captain America: Civil War and in Avengers: Infinity War
But definitely watch the second one. I love it so much, as much as the first one it's hard for me to choose one I prefer. Andrew Garfield's acting is also much better in the second one imo
Well if it's for the purpose of those two movies, they better do a good job on it. Otherwise, people are going to fucking rage hard.
Yea, Spidey in those movies + his individual movie better blow me away. Really stupid imo (sorry if I'm like venting, this is just something that's been bothering me)
Lol, it's okay. We're here to express our opinions on movies, so go ahead.
But don't go overboard. Keep things civil like the mods say.
In Bruges movie review
EDIT: I put bullet points so people reading it don't get lost.
First review. I've recently seen a movie called In Bruges, so I'll tell you my thoughts on it as it's still a little fresh on me mind.
In Bruges is a dark comedy film following two Irish hitmen named Ken(Brendan Gleeson) and Ray(Colin Farrel) who go sightseeing in a little shithole town called Bruges (It's not really a shithole, but they do say it is in the movie). They are sent their by their boss, Harry(Ralph Fiennes) and are awaiting orders from him for their next hit. After recently seeing In Bruges, it has become one of my favorite movies of all time. I heard that this was an underrated British comedy film, so it has really sparked my interest. I am so happy to have finally seen it!
I'll start off by saying that Farrel and Gleeson have some of the best chemistry I've ever seen in a buddy comedy movie. Gleeson is like an authoritative brother/father figure to the reckless and short tempered Farrel. The dialogue they have with one another is some of the best written dialogue I've heard of in a while. I saw Spy, and I didn't necessarily like some of the comedy in it because it felt pretty forced. Here, the comedy feels genuine. Farrel has great moments where he's literally shit talking about Bruges. Gleeson also has a lot of funny moments. However, the one who outshines these two the most is Ralph Fiennes. Fiennes is fucking phenomenal. He only appears in the third act of the movie, but he stole the show for me once he came up. These 3 characters are great, as they feel unique. Generally, crime bosses and hitmen are usually perceived as horrible people to the public. Murderers and criminals is what these people most certainly are. However, they are murderers/criminals with morals (ironic). It sounds sappy, but when you realize what their story is, you'll be surprised of how ethical they are. Well, for the most part at least.
Like I've said before, the comedy works extremely well in this movie. It's hilarious, it's witty, and most of all, it's dark. So, you can expect to see some over the top violence mixed in with some offensive humor. Sometimes the situations in this movie are so over the top, you can't help but laugh. You can also expect A LOT of vulgarity here. Especially extreme use of the c-word. There's also some shockingly dramatic elements in this movie as well. Some may say that the big dramatic moments detract from the film, and can feel out of place. But in my opinion, that is what makes this movie great. The dramatic parts are actually pretty surprising, so I won't spoil it here. Some movies such as The Watch can't really mix drama and comedy well. It just feels off. However, the mix of drama and comedy meshes really well here. Once you realize what the big dramatic moment is, you'll definitely be in need for a good laugh. Once you get down to the core of the film, you'll realize that the movie is about morals and redemption. Without spoiling too, much you'll see that certain criminals such as killers - well, maybe not serial killers - have their principles. Much like Leon from Leon: The Professional.
I honestly have very few negatives to say about the movie. If I had to say one, I didn't really like the setting for the film, Bruges. It's funny because Farrel absolutely hates Bruges. The city just felt really boring and bland. The only thing that sheds light on this bland city is the comedic mishaps between these three characters.
Overall: In Bruges is a great dark comedy film filled with great acting and superb comedy. The chemistry between these characters was written extremely well, and the plot took a surprising turn that was extremely shocking to me. It has become one of my favorite movies of all time and my final grade for In Bruges is:
Grade: A
So, if you've seen In Bruges, please share your thoughts on it.
I highly recommend this movie. It's the only three hour movie I can think of where I was compelled all the way through.
But of course this is a French film.
Ok?
I heard this Spidey is supposed to be 14, so 9th grade actually.
I do wish they had at the very least released AS3 to wrap things up. AS2 set so much stuff up that's annoyingly never going to be resolved now.
I love this movie! This and The Matador starring Pierce Brosnan are my two favourite dark comedies about a hitman going through burnout.
I recommend:
I've heard of it! I'll def check it out if I'm able to find it. Oh holy shit this IS 3 hours long. The only 3 hour long movie I've been able to sit through was The Wolf of Wall Street.
I've seen bits of 140-.
sees killer clown poster
lol nah i'm good.
I'll check that out too. I really fucking love In Bruges
It's from 1988, which makes it even scarier.
My favorite scene in the movie is the c*nt scene between Gleeson and Fiennes.
Does anyone have a favorite movie of theirs they'd like to share?
If you couldn't tell from my avatar, mines is Taxi Driver.
Ok
Donnie Darko. I just love this movie. It's confusing, dark and mysterious, but it makes sense perfect sense once you look up an explanation on the film. Really an amazing movie in my eyes.
I feel like my head will explode if I tried to analyze Donnie Darko. I haven't seen it yet, but I did here about a lot of mind-bending stuff in the movie. No spoilers pls! Jake Gyllenhaal is in it, so it should be good.
I'd never do such a thing to someone who hasn't seen it!
And yes, Jake Gyllenhaal is in it. He played the main character, Donnie Darko, and did an amazing job at it. You should watch it when you're given the chance and THEN look up an explanation to make sense of it. But keep in mind, it's a very dark and somewhat depressing film. Still awesome though.
I've seen a lot of obscene depressing stuff in films, so I think I can handle it. Thanks for the recommendation.
Ever since a few weeks ago, me and my dad have watched Boxtrolls on Netflix. I definitely recommend watching it if you want to see an original animated film with a simple, yet entertaining story.
And a few weeks before watching Boxtrolls, I've seen Underworld. Putting it simply, it's a badass vampire flick (along with Blade) you should consider watching if you haven't already. Obviously better than the modern flirty vampire stuff we have nowadays.
I'm gonna be honest, Boxtrolls never really stood out to me. It's not my kind of thing. Sorry.
Underworld is another movie that I heard wasn't that good. I'll watch it still, but I'm gonna be skeptical about it.
My favourite movie is probably Gattaca.
I liked boxtrolls.
Ohhhh I've seen that movie.
I had to watch it and compare it to Brave New World for my English class.
Brave New World sucked shit though. I hated it. Gattaca on the other hand was very interesting. If I had to rate it, I'd give it a B+
Bah, just watch the movie anyway. You might as well, right?
Bet what you heard about the film were so-called 'opinions' from Twilight fanboys/fangirls who can't tell a good vampire movie when they see one. Don't be skeptical and simply enjoy the experience, you chuck.
It was pretty neat, got to admit.
Yea I will eventually lol.
No, nothing from Twilight shitheads. I've actually never heard them say anything about the movie. I just heard that the movie was bad in general.
Probably some werewolves spewing bullshit like usual, can't seem to win with those guys.
Boxtrolls was pretty good. It wasn't amazing, but I really loved the style and energy of the film. Not a lot of the jokes hit for me though.
And I've seen Underworld. It was a while ago though. Didn't really stand out to me, still, it was a pretty cool vampire movie. It was also pretty interesting.
It's avaliable on Netflix if you have that.
Surprisingly, I don't. I do have an app called showbox though.
Killer clowns is more of a comedy. I genuinely like 1408 though.
It might be on that. But I have no idea
My favourite movie is The Mask, the first special effects in movies amazed me and still do to this day
Think it was meant to be more of a drama than a comedy (since you brought up the jokes). The humor mainly had to do with the two henchman who were always talking with one another - that's pretty much it when it came to the jokes.
Underworld was pretty good considering there wasn't a lot of good vampire movies at the time (apart from Blade).
