I know Father/Shaun really believed in his work at the Institute, but I can't help but feel he is ultimately evil. It's so depressing to have such a massive spanner thrown in the works (with finding your son and him being 60), believing him that 'the Institute isn't bad'...but then venturing down to the FEV section and having it all turned upside down again. I have no idea what to do with choosing my faction. I mean...he's my characters son, but I cant help feel he doesn't realise his noble intentions are just messed up. I think i'll go with the Minutemen, their just cool people, all good intentions with nothing shady in the works.
Woah woah woah! The railroad is too extreme, but you sided with the wasteland Nazis? They want to exterminate ghouls and synths for Fuhrer M… moreaxson. The doctor even makes you take a purity test!
I guess I should explain myself on this then, I'll do it by group:
The Minutemen: They're awesome and if I had faith in them to be able to keep a stable commonwealth then I would have chosen them. However, I see them as more as the police to the Brotherhood's army.
The Institute: Don't even get me started on these loons. At first, I thought it was all pretty good until I dug deeper. The Institute has all this amazing advanced technology but it's squandered. Let's look at their projects: Cyborg project that effectively extended human life and abilities (Cancelled), Synthetic robot slaves which would normally be good except that stupid scientists went "You know what would be cool? Free will. Look at that! They're trying to escape, so adorabl… [view original content]
I gotta say it's the main reason I support the BoS in FO4. Back in FO3 I definitely didn't like Lyon's Chapter, if you can even still call it one, since he pretty much went against all the main principles of the codex. I liked the Outcasts better.
So, I was very happy - heartless as it may seem - when in 4 I found out that the Lyons were dead and Maxson both reunited with the Outcasts and steered the Brotherhood back on it's original course, at the same time doing away with their main weakness - dwindling numbers - by allowing the drafting of outsiders. Now the BoS finally has the chance to become a true power, one which I'll gladly be part of.
And they are protecting those around them, Maxson himself says he cares about the people of the wasteland. That's why they're eliminating synths, ghouls and mutants after all, it's not like ferals have advanced technology to confiscate.
When I saw what he was doing, I knew that it wasn't my son. He might be my son genetically but he wasn't raised by me and he doesn't have any of my morals. He is a stranger to me and I have no remorse for killing him.
Why? Sanctuary Hills is full of the stuff. How big is your settlements?
I am working on my fifth settlement now. I have a quest that i have to build up Sunshine Farm. I just found out btw about trade routes. Seems like i use a lot of wood more than steel. I easily run out of building materials.
I laughed about this as well, by the time i slept with Piper, two months have passed since my wife was murdered. Well i guess if you spend all your days killing, picking up trash, you would have to find something to take your mind off your problems.
I chose her because she was the first person my character could "romance." If you call it that. I wanted to see if they were going to add a story, some quests, anything.
Do you have high charisma? Before you do any speech checks, make sure you save before. If you fail, reload the save. It's a sure shot that you'll be able to pass it after that.
And they are protecting those around them, Maxson himself says he cares about the people of the wasteland. That's why they're eliminating synths, ghouls and mutants after all, it's not like ferals have advanced technology to confiscate.
This is true. However, Lyons went so far as to be altruistic about the people of the wasteland (i.e. Not taking into account the betterment of the brotherhood in some cases).

And that's exactly why I didn't like his 'faction' at all. If he wasn't going to work for the benefit of the Brotherhood he should have just left, declared himself and whoever was willing to go with him the 'Society of Wasteland Philanthropists' or whatever, not pretend he was still with the BoS while undermining their power and alienating loyal members.
Maxson has performed remarkably well in my book, so I'm willing to accept his more extremist tendencies on account of him having a clear vision of the BoS's path that could actually lead them ad victoriam.

Try continuing the main quest. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm pretty sure at one point you'll face off against the institute (or join it if that your thing). At which point (presumably) you'd bring whatever faction you allied with.

That, and Maxon seems to be the lesser of the evils in Fallout 4. I still like Lyons and the Eastern Chapter when it was under him, but, as you have said, one cannot truely call him a Brother of Steel.

I have yet to get a platinum trophy, for I see no point in them. Still, this means you have the capacity to commit to something very tedious, so I congratulate you.
(Note: I do not have Fallout 4 myself. This opinion is constructed from what I have seen from walkthroughs on youtube)
Something that worries me is how one gets the ability to use power armour from the get-go. In previous titles, it was a reward: something that literally required special training to use. Now, it seems that anyone can use power armour. Hell, even raiders of all people have their own suits. Power Armour is something I treasure in Fallout games because it is something you have to earn. You couldn't simply slip on a suit of power armour in previous titles. And now it is literally as simple as walking into a walk-in closet and turning on the light. I have yet to play the game myself (I need to save money for my first car), but from what I have seen thus far, I am worried. One could rationalise it by saying that the sole survivor has military experience. But what does that say for his wife, should you have chosen her over him?
As people who have played the game, what do you think?
Does anyone know how I could side with The Minutemen? I never got the quest line to do that as I only have the Institute, Railroad, and BoS
EDIT: I meant how do you side with them against the Institute.
Oh wait, I think you guys are reading it wrong. I obviously did everything to JOIN the Minutemen, but I was wondering how do you side with them against the Institute.

Well, something to consider is that the armor runs of fusion cores, which can be tough to come by, earlier on. I personally view the power armor in Fallout 4 as being more like a vehicle than a piece of clothing. It's basically like you are driving a tank or mech. You're very tough and strong, but the armor can be damaged (unlike anything else in the game) and runs on a fuel supply, or in this case; fusion cores.
In fact, if you look at some of the pre-war lore in the series, the U.S. military was basically using power armor troops in that capacity.
For me, the satisfaction of earning armor rights has largely been replaced by the satisfaction of collecting new sets and tweaking them to my liking. As for the Roleplaying element, honestly FO4's roleplaying problems go a bit deeper than the power armor. There's still plenty of good fun to be had (I just started a drug addict character), but there's constraints in place that didn't exist in New Vegas.

All fair points. As someone who has played the game, you have better authority in this subject matter. I shall see for myself when I get the game myself.
Still, I find it hard to believe that raiders of all people could get their hands on a working set of power armour or make the necessary repairs on a broken set they found.

Agreed...and for some reason I felt really attached to Nora's character even though I only knew her for 15 minutes or so.
I know Father/Shaun really believed in his work at the Institute, but I can't help but feel he is ultimately evil. Guys, i failed my romance speech check, will i be able to try again later?
Yes, that is true. However, Maxson has expanded the eastern chapter so much, the old one doesn't really exist anymore.
When I saw what he was doing, I knew that it wasn't my son. He might be my son genetically but he wasn't raised by me and he doesn't have any of my morals. He is a stranger to me and I have no remorse for killing him.
I am pretty sure that you have to have taken the Castle and afterwards talk to Ronnie Shaw.
Was it a flirt or romance?
I am working on my fifth settlement now. I have a quest that i have to build up Sunshine Farm. I just found out btw about trade routes. Seems like i use a lot of wood more than steel. I easily run out of building materials.
Where do you meet Cait?
Combat Zone, it's around Boston Commons.

Did that. Nothing.

If it was a flirt, don't worry. You'll just have to work harder though, but if you screw the romance one, you're done.
This is true. However, Lyons went so far as to be altruistic about the people of the wasteland (i.e. Not taking into account the betterment of the brotherhood in some cases).
I see your reasoning now. It was just that the way you said it was as if the two where mutually exclusive.

You're fine.
Hmm, don't know then.
Yeah, but it takes a long frickin time which gets me annoyed.
Seriously anyone know how to get Blind Betrayal without asking the BOS for help while building the teleporter?
Ha! It is. Nick will hype him up saying he's gonna call in an expert that he regularly works with and then reveals him.
Try continuing the main quest. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm pretty sure at one point you'll face off against the institute (or join it if that your thing). At which point (presumably) you'd bring whatever faction you allied with.
Yeah, most likely.
Haha, yeah. For me it was like two-three weeks.......I'm apparently not the most faithful wife.
That, and Maxon seems to be the lesser of the evils in Fallout 4. I still like Lyons and the Eastern Chapter when it was under him, but, as you have said, one cannot truely call him a Brother of Steel.
I just recently picked up the platinum for this.
Soooooooo much fun to get.
Nice!

Did you go to Concord and help Preston clear out the Raiders?

No idea, sorry. I'm not that far into the story.

Fallout 4's biggest fault is there's no Veronica.
Literally the hypest Fallout character of all time.
