All fair points. As someone who has played the game, you have better authority in this subject matter. I shall see for myself when I get the… more game myself.
Still, I find it hard to believe that raiders of all people could get their hands on a working set of power armour or make the necessary repairs on a broken set they found.
I think this was more about opening us straight up too everything. Within the first hour or so you can build settlements, put on power armour, have a companion etc, pretty much do what you like. Plus, there is so much room to specialise in whatever you like...I personally don't use power armour at all, but if you want to follow that path you can (through the S.P.E.C.I.A.L perk tree). There is tons of support for every play style. You'll find getting your first power armour isn't that big a deal as you might think, they lose energy fast, power cores are few and far between, and I find it limits your interaction with the world anyway due to this...but, you can definitely make power armour a viable way to play if you invest in the right perks and find some of the more 'rewarding' locations...of which I won't spoil.
(Note: I do not have Fallout 4 myself. This opinion is constructed from what I have seen from walkthroughs on youtube)
Something that wor… moreries me is how one gets the ability to use power armour from the get-go. In previous titles, it was a reward: something that literally required special training to use. Now, it seems that anyone can use power armour. Hell, even raiders of all people have their own suits. Power Armour is something I treasure in Fallout games because it is something you have to earn. You couldn't simply slip on a suit of power armour in previous titles. And now it is literally as simple as walking into a walk-in closet and turning on the light. I have yet to play the game myself (I need to save money for my first car), but from what I have seen thus far, I am worried. One could rationalise it by saying that the sole survivor has military experience. But what does that say for his wife, should you have chosen her over him?
As people who have played the game, what do you think?
After finding the Institute I had the option to join the Minutemen when I went to talk to the Railroad before going to Bunker Hill. I had the option to "Side with the Railroad or side with the Minutemen".
Oh wait, I think you guys are reading it wrong. I obviously did everything to JOIN the Minutemen, but I was wondering how do you side with them against the Institute.
SPOILER:

I don't know if you guys know this, but the "boundaries on the south west extends past the map "boundary. Which is really weird imo, I don't know why they did that , or didn't do the same to the sides. I just ventured to the Dead zone today, and was pretty impressed. That part was cool. There are more locations, i found another down air jet, with who knows what else is around it.

Fusion Cores are considered ammo, so i wonder if ammo scraper perk effects it. I built my character around Charisma/Intelligence so he has max charisma/ near max int. I have a Perk called Nuclear Physicist or something, and it extends the life of a fusion core.
Note one thing about this perk , is that if you aren't careful, you can eject cores by accident, if you decide to lob a grenade and you don't have any defaults equipped. It will throw the core. I wasted a good few cores before i realised this little gem of info, but luckily for me; i figured out how to make butloads of money in this game.
Well, something to consider is that the armor runs of fusion cores, which can be tough to come by, earlier on. I personally view the power … morearmor in Fallout 4 as being more like a vehicle than a piece of clothing. It's basically like you are driving a tank or mech. You're very tough and strong, but the armor can be damaged (unlike anything else in the game) and runs on a fuel supply, or in this case; fusion cores.
In fact, if you look at some of the pre-war lore in the series, the U.S. military was basically using power armor troops in that capacity.
For me, the satisfaction of earning armor rights has largely been replaced by the satisfaction of collecting new sets and tweaking them to my liking. As for the Roleplaying element, honestly FO4's roleplaying problems go a bit deeper than the power armor. There's still plenty of good fun to be had (I just started a drug addict character), but there's constraints in place that didn't exist in New Vegas.

There's too much I want to say so I'll make it short. 1) I was really bummed about the Never Ending Pistol, I saw a youtuber used it and I learned it isn't actually infinite, so bummer. 2) I've seen the glowing sea, and holy shit it's the definition of hell in Fallout 4. No way I'm gonna try to loot shit in that place for long. 3) I was disappointed with the range of equipment you could wear, I was hoping for me tbh. 4)I really love Nick Valentine and Cait's stories, they're really interesting and kinda sad. Definitely gonna have those two as two of my top three companions to travel with (Dogmeat is a no-brainer). Can't wait till I get the game eventually. I'm waiting for it to get cheaper before I actually get the game.
Oh, but I did get New Vegas thanks to the steam sale going on! Now I can finally get immersed in the Fallout universe first hand!
I just went there; with a fully customized power armor suit. I designed this suit to be lead resistant, so i didn't have any issues with radiation. I didn't have any issues other than the rad scorpions/other bugs can for some reason kill through power armor. I spent a good 3 hours there last night.
Howdy! Been a while.

Also try to get 3 as well, Fallout 4 has many references to it, since it's a sequel to it.(duh) and it's just a fun game to play, gameplay is exactly like New Vegas minus iron sights.

Here's a trick for always passing speeches: Save before you choose the speech option. If it fails then reload and try again. It might take a few reloads, but will eventually work.
Here's my character. Her name is Sarah. She's skilled in melee, pistols, shotguns, sniper rifles, and automatic weapons. And Piper is her companion and lover.

Macready's perk is a glitched OP mess. Instead of bumping the headshot chance by like 20%, it does it by like...100%-2000%. Basically, if you can see a sliver of someone's head, no matter where they are, no matter how far...You'll get the perfect shot.
Seriously, screw those 'Brahminpoop Farm is under attack!' quests... I. Don't. Care. You stupid farmers, I never wanted to make your farm a settlement in the first place, I just did a fetch quest for you to get some caps. That doesn't make me your personal bodyguard. I have important Brotherhood business to take care of, like extorting resources from the stupid farmers on the other side of the map. Just get dismembered by raiders and stop notifying me.
Also oops, forgot to pick up Virgil's serum and I don't feel like going all the way back for it... Tough luck, Virgil.

To be fair, the raider scrap barely counts as power armor. It's usually just a frame and maybe a chest piece or helmet.
How long did it take you? Did you cheat.
So..... where can I find Hancock?
Goodneighbor, in the Boston ruins. You can recruit him after the 'Big Dig' quest.

Anyone know where I can get this done or have I screwed up? I may have kill Doc Crocker in the detective mission...... Will Doc Sun do it?
Doc Sun will do it, just wait a day in game and then go into where Crocker did the surgeries and you'll find Doc Sun, ask him and he'll say yes.

Gotta say, I never saw the appeal of her... Felicia Day just grates on my nerves wherever she appears. (Go to hell, Tallis...)
Ahhh. I see. I'm going to do that now, thanks.
I guess so.
You are are a sad, strange little man. You have my pity. Farwell.
If it was this simple i would of been married, long ago.

She was alright, but i liked all the characters of New Vegas. I especially liked Rhonda.
Cool, nice find!

I found all the locations in the Glowing Sea. It has some sad stories in it but overall it's not too good for loot besides the legendary enemies.
Don't you just hate it when you order coffee and it comes out scalding hot?

Favorite companions ever: Nick, Deacon, and Hancock.
I love Macready for his duster. Which I took ad am now wearing ...
The only thing i found was deathclaws.
Deacon is great. I keep him out of armor, that way he keeps switching between disguises.

So, what do your characters look like?
Here's a tip I wish I'd known when I got the game (sorry if it's been mentioned before, didn't read the entire thread).
By holding the button you can pick up entire structures you've build and move them around.
You can also use it to clip through certain objects.
Like the tree in Sanctuary for example;
It would have saved me so much time if I had known this from the start :P
I found two power armors and a few cores. Nothing much else out there than that and two magazines.
As soon as I walked in there, I saw the air and knew to get out as fast as possible.

I just restarted, so this is the only pic I have at the moment.
She's going "Unladylike" when she hits Diamond City though.
I based mine off of Violette Summer
Sorry for the crappy quality

She kinda looks like Jill Valentine

Does the extortion quest work for you? It's bugged for me. Teagan keeps sending me to Country Crossing, over and over again.
