So what are you doing here, Jake?

I like TWD as well. Unlike you I don't just limit myself to one game.

Walking Dead isn't adequately sophisticated and exclusive for you.

It's plenty sophisticated for me. I love the concept of the choice and effect system.

Go back to snobbystation forum then.

I was never on the Playstation forums. And 'snobbystation' isn't even a decent pun or play on the name 'Playstation'. So, y'know, come up with something more clever if you're going to troll like this. I'll compose a list if you want.

    You're offending Telltale Games, man.

No I'm not. I'm not saying TWD sucks or anything. I like the game, and I like Telltale. Just by saying I prefer another game to TWD doesn't mean I'm instantly offending the developers. TWD is easily one of the best games I've played.

Your logic dictates that if I like TLOU more than TWD, I'm also offending Rockstar, Insomniac, Valve, Irrational, Ubisoft, and all the others.

They are small company but look what they've achieved. GOTY 2012.

I was rooting for them the whole way.

I wouldn't mock last od us on it's forum.

I'm not mocking the walking dead. This thread literally asked for our opinions on the matter. How is saying which aspects of one game I prefer over another 'mockery'? I'm not going to lie just because this is a Walking Dead forum. Mocking the Walking Dead would be making fun of aspects of the game, not suggesting that they are good but TLOU trumps it in certain aspects, while TWD trumps TLOU in other aspects.

For some reason people are treating you nice here.

Probably because I gave an honest opinion.

Well, I'm the true TWD and TTG supporter.

Good for you, though saying that makes it seem like you're too in a trance with TTG and TWD to be able to enjoy anything else.

So what are you doing here, Jake? Walking Dead isn't adequately sophisticated and exclusive for you. Go back to snobbystation forum then. You'

Have to say Walking Dead, simply for me because I had more control over the story, I felt a closer connection to the characters.

I fucking love Last of Us though. Apart from the Walking Dead I haven't seen a story like that in a game before.

And the Theme from TLOU is fucking awesome to jam on your guitar with a big joint in your mouth.

    Like I am now....

    Simple answer: The Walking Dead.

  • it's hard to say. the game itself was more fun in TLOU, but it didn't feel like it had much replay value beyond "right then, let's do this on the next difficulty level". TWD could be a bit more interesting with the more open feeling stages and nonlinear QTE combat, but TLOU could have really done with giving the player some sort of input in conversations. for a fair amount of the game, i didn't really enjoy playing as joel, because of his personality. his attitude just kind of grated on my nerves.

i'd say i prefered TLOU, but TWD just keeps me coming back.

  • You had to make this?

Well we are on a TWD forum so obviously I would choose it. Its one of my favorite games ever. TLOU as well but I enjoy talking and dialogue options better then killing. They both had amazing story (ugh TLOU ending...) but TLOU had a lot of action. TWD had killing too but in my opinion I felt more laid back when playing it. and I like walkers better then runners/clickers/stalkers/bloaters.

  • no actually regret making it when first on forum when bumped it just really a joke never though people would answer it again.

  • Both games have a great story, although I prefer TWD one of the reasons is because I just love the characters. I sometimes even wonder want would it be like if Joel had to take care of Clem and Lee would take care of Ellie.

  • Walking Dead billion times better, at end of TLOU i was like "Ellies gonna die? ok, time to save the world! wait, what are you- god dangit joel..."

  • thanks rag and appreciate your answers good quality

No problem. I love your discussions! I can't not reply to it!

  • I know right: Lee's bitten and has limited time to save Clementine from some Stranger? "You're f**king DEAD! I don't know who you are, but I will kill you! Do you understand?!". Was I one of the few who didn't stop pressing the action button when it faded away while choking the Stranger?

  • Technically ther were optional dialogues you could do with Joel
And I'll be honest I couldn't help but keep replaying the tlou about 10 times
What was it you didn't like about Joel by the wa

Joel didn't want to lose another daughter again I might've done the same thing he did

  • what i was trying to say was i didnt give 2 craps bout the characters in TLOU. they bandits and kill on site, dat aint rite.

  • I like them both equally; here's why. (Spoilers for The Last of Us and The Walking Dead Game Season 1&2) They both have very VERY meaningful endings, if you look back at the ending of TWD S1, it was very emotional, mostly because you had been playing with those characters for the past year, I waited for every episode to come out, and when it did, I downloaded it, and played it immediately. In episode four, when Lee was bitten, I knew he was going to die, but I also knew, that for any of your MANY choices and decisions to matter, Telltale had to make a Season 2, and I was very confident they would. Seeing Lee practically die in Clementine's arms, was the best, and most terrible feeling I have ever gotten, from any game, ever. On one hand FUCK! LEE DIED! NOOO! Then on the other hand, Lee was going to jail in the beginning of the game, he killed somebody in cold blood, he was a bad man; then he found a little girl, helped her survive (Clementine would be rotting up in her attic if it weren't for lee) and cared for her as if he were her very own, so getting to see Clementine, and who she had become, as Lee slowly drifted to sleep, made me feel complete. Then there is The Last of Us, it is literally voted best game of the decade, with good reason too. The entire story; from Joel losing his daughter, and his girlfriend (Was Tess his girlfriend? Sortamaybekinda?) and near everybody he loved (much like Ellie did) then nearly having the last thing he had to live for ripped from his arms, and almost killed seemed like justification for his actions in the end of the game. Ellie knew what was up, she knew that Joel was lying to her, but she was okay with it, because Joel and Ellie had eachother, and they would persevere, endure, and survive. Plus Ellie and Joel are straight up fuckin' badasses.

  • The Last of Us attempted to balance story with gameplay and fell short in both departments. They shot big and just didn't make it. Ellie and Joel aren't very sympathetic towards me and the lack of input in their relationship made it difficult to connect with Ellie or sense that paternal feeling they were trying so desperately to get out of me. They should have kept with Joel's real daughter instead of the snarky special snowflake Ellie who will save the world and get almost raped so she can have something to break down her tough exterior and cry to Joel about. The best part of TLOU's story was probably that abandoned light house (was it? I'm sort of forgetting) where you read about the last moments of the families that hung out there.

As for TWD, they put their focus into the story and your interactivity with it. Which, if the games were written more like the TV show, wouldn't have worked. However, since Telltale didn't really overextend themselves with gameplay mechanics getting the story and emotions of the characters across came first and made for a really enjoyable experience. I'll admit I don't replay TWD for the gameplay, I replay it to explore story elements I didn't choose previously. Since TLOU has only one path to it's story, to it's beautiful but underutilized environments coupled with lackluster AI and obnoxious "help Ellie cross" segments, I was never drawn to reply or retry something. TWD built that maternal bond because you, as a player, had the choice to let Clementine fend for herself. If you wanted, you could be focused on yourself and do a little better for it, but the game always reminded you that it was Clementine who would pay for it and it drew you to act with her in mind - well, for me at least.

TLOU took a fresh look at the zombie genre, or at least in terms of HOW the zombies function, but it wasn't enough to save an overambitious game with a pretentious writer.

  • I liked TLOU. But is only beats TWD if you like graphics and gameplay over story (like ALL my friends -_-). TLOU had a great story but honestly I wasn't happy with the ending. I really don't know why, but there has always been something that didn't sit right with me. I loved TWD all the way through and it was just more emotional for me. The most emotion I had in TLOU was when Sarah died and after David. Ellie always just seemed so strong and independent. It wasn't as easy for me to connect to her. I liked a lot but wasn't as concerned with her. I knew that she could take care of herself. Clementine just pulled me in with those big brown eyes and that was that. She was so innocent and I liked how she always pulled me back to my humanity.TWD made me think about myself and come to reality to how bad of a person I could be and that was very thought invoking. Thankfully I had a sweet little girl there to help me make the right decisions. TLOU was just here is a good story now play through it. I liked it but I only got to see the bad sides characters not my bad side.

Sorry if that didn't make sense.

  • I'll be honest. The DLC "Left Behind" felt more emotional to me. Especially when we saw more to Ellie and Riley's relationship.

  • Tbh I preferred tlou to twd because it forced me to see moral ambiguity
Joel literally says he's not a hero he's far from it
For twd I could not help but keep picking a specific side tlou convinced me to try the different sides (less moral) in twd

I found Left Behind less emotional and found it made me feel more like the producers were instead senselessly beating me with a baseball bat made of Ellie and Riley's relationship in hopes of evoking empathy for the two girls, especially during Riley's survivor speech (it was very sweet and all but felt like a pile of melted cheese) "There are a million ways we should've died before today, and a million ways we could die before tomorrow," it's just… it makes me wince every time.

I can see your point, but I don't get it… how? You couldn't really choose a different side in the last of us, so how did it convince you to try different sides, or did you mean a different point of view? 'Cause really, all that the last of us showed me is that some game producers are really trying to make killing bad people and monsters seem like you are the one who started it and you should feel sorry for killing, "humble survivors going through the same circumstances." In my opinion, the walking dead explored it a little better, especially with Kenny and Lilly in the meat locker and having to choose whether to save Larry or not.
