If I were a betting man, I'd be willing to place all of my worldly possessions on a big fat NO.
If Lucasarts does continue to produce special editions of their classics then you can more or less guarantee that it'll be an earlier title such as Maniac Mansion or Day of the Tentacle. In fact, they've already stated as much in interviews.
They're right to concentrate on the older games... MI:3 certainly doesn't need a remake and neither does Grim Fandango, they look good, play well and have voice and streamlined controls already.
I hope they do the original Maniac Mansion, as I find that hard to play now, or possibly Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis with an option for a new voice track or the old one.
While I'd like to see a GF special edition with touched up graphics, I think I'd rather see an Escape from Monkey Island special edition. I personally think that it needs it more (mainly for the bad-ish character models). For sure, the character models are just as rough in Grim Fandango as they are in EfMI, but the blocky character models actually suit GF because the characters are skeletons, but those types of character models don't look right for characters that are actually meant to be living humans; those seen in the MI games.
I agree, except I want to see a Curse SE anyway. Properly done, of course, and by that I mean almost untouched but with support for newer versions of windows, more colors, and likely made to fit widescreen. Basically, a prettied-up re-release as opposed to a remake.
After that, yes, I absolutely want to see a properly cleaned up Escape, with improved graphics, bug fixes, and Alexandra Boyd as Elaine. If I could have those three things, I'd even be happy keeping the same interface and Monkey Kombat.

Yeah, I'd also like to see this. One other way they could improve the Curse is by adding a run option. Perhaps they could even put in a direct control option in (as they've done with LR:SE) and make 'Shift' the 'run' key, because at times I do find myself wishing that Guybrush would get around just a little bit faster. And, with the whole direct control idea, this would be great if they chose to release the game - CoMI:SE - on other consoles, then a wider audience can experience, what I consider to be, the equal best game of the series.

Hmmm... I actually don't mind Charity James' rendition of Elaine, I think she suited the role that Elaine played in that particular game. But, I wouldn't mind if Alexandra Boyd replaced her, they're both fine choices.
Yeah, but Monkey Kombat really does need a new interface, or some sort of improvement. I wouldn't want it scrapped altogether, though (as I know some fans would want it), because I did actually enjoy Monkey Kombat a little.
Actually, I preferred the American Elaine, as opposed to English Elaine, which makes here sound more like a pompous, spoiled daughter of an aristocrat, than an intelligent pirate governor. But that's just me I guess. Probably the only thing about EMI I like more than the other games, I wish she had become the standard Elaine.
While I do prefer Alexandra Boyd, the only real gripe I have with Charity James is that she's not Alexandra Boyd. If Curse hadn't had voice acting, I probably would've been okay with Charity, but Alexandra came first, I like her better, and thanks to Tales and the remakes, she's now the official Elaine and Escape is now an inconsistency.
As for Monkey Kombat, as much as I would prefer something else, it's part of the original game, and to remove or change it wouldn't be right.

Well, sort of. I like to pretend that there's actually a reason; that reason being that the beginning of Escape picked up right after the first few months of Elaine being married to Guybrush. This would have been the longest time she's spent around Guybrush, and because they were on a boat with few other British-sounding crew members, this caused Guybrush's accent to 'rub-off' on Elaine, causing her to pick up an American accent.
It's probably just an easter egg, like the tentacle in MI:1.
They're right to concentrate on the older games... MI:3 certainly doesn't need a remake and neither does Grim Fandango, they look good, play well and have voice and streamlined controls already.
*wonders if you realised that I also think that concentrating on the older titles is the way to go*

Plus, as others have stated, Manny appeared in SOMI:SE as well and that didn't lead to a Grim Fandango:SE.
I'm not saying it won't happen but it is less likely because Craig Derrick has stated a few times that he feels that the games with voices don't offer enough value to be re-released as special editions (because they already have voices). Also, he stated recently that Maniac Mansion is the game he'd most like to develop next as a special edition.
I know that Day of the Tentacle already has voices but if Maniac Mansion: SE proved to be a success then you can imagine DOTT:SE getting the go ahead.
On top of that, I think it's fair to say that any games released on Steam last year are not the ones Lucasarts intends to update... unfortunately, Fate of Atlantis was among those released
Hello, I am here to shatter your hopes and dreams by telling you that the following games will never get sequels:
Loom: There is no unresolved story in Loom that could give it potential for a sequel.
The Dig: Again, no unresolved storyline.
Grim Fandango: Everything is wrapped up nicely. There will be no further excitement after Manny has moved on.
Grim Fandango: Everything is wrapped up nicely. There will be no further excitement after Manny has moved on.
Not true. Manny's own storyline is wrapped up quite nicely, but I think there's still plenty of potential to be had in the Land of the Dead. But yeah, a Grim Fandango sequel starring Manny would never work.
GuruGuru is right, there could be further stories set in the world but no sequel as such. Hmmm, if Tim Schaefer came back to write I could see Tales of the Ninth Underworld working.
If they were to include Manny there would have to be some kind of hitch in getting to the ninth underworld when taking the train. If not, it could be "The Adventures of Bruno Martinez"!
Would be great if they brought out a polished graphics version of Grim for the 15th Anniversary. (when would that be 2013?) Same music, same voices, same gameplay, just updated backgrounds and character models, and perhaps a couple of extra puzzles. I'd pay good money for that!
Just give it a bit of a polish and it'll look as good as new.

I don't think LucasArts is ever going to do that ... It's up to fans to do so ... Unless another Darrell Rodriguez comes
By the way, Who modeled that Manny? That's very impressive!
Though, I don't thing Manny actually is a skeleton. He's a papier-mâché skeleton. He should look like a cartoony Peter-Chan-esque skeleton papier-mâché.
yeah then we can bring back the ask me about grim fandango badge from curse of monkey island and turn it into a ask me about grim fandango special edition badge

I modelled it. You are right though, I think he should be a papier-mâché type skeleton. I just thought it would be fun to see what he would look like as "real" bones.
It's interesting how the shift from papier-mâché to real life skeleton made him look scary and emotionless ...
Care joining the GF deluxe project?
We're trying to increase the polygon count of the in-game models.
One of the programmers has just managed to convert the in-game models to an .obj file! Here's Manny. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?i5vkh7jd4axpv08 It must be rendered via Blender3D for textures to work)
(I'm not the group manager by the way.
I'm just a beginner Google SketchUp Pro modeler trying to help them with remodeling the simple background to be used for rendering higher resolution backgrounds.
The group manager is ThnderPell2001 [JohnnyWalker2001 on Residual forums])
Yeah you are right, he does look scary. I think it is a variation of the Tintin effect. (Uncanny Valley) When there isn't a lot of detail (like in the papier mache models or the original grim models or classic cartoons), then you accept it, and project your own emotion onto it, but when it looks like a real (albeit distorted) skull, then your only source of reference for skulls is school biology classrooms and so it looks literally lifeless and cold.
The GF deluxe project looks great, I'm not sure I could commit the time to it right now, although I'd love to be involved. Did you guys solve the issue of being able to get the objs converted back into whatever format the game uses? and was it decided that increased poly counts would slow the game engine too much to be usable?
I always thought that manny could use a few more polys. It would be great if his could look a little more curved, like the pencil drawn concept sketches that are floating around the net. Also would be nice to see locations like the cafe in HD

Exactly! Couldn't have said it better. It's our perception that does the job.

I think they did since ThunderPeel was mainly worried of not being able to use the converter files since they didn't look like Manny - the problem which we solved, see Manny's model above - instead of being worried of converting the model back.
Thought I may be wrong.
Best to ask the guys in the forum thread over at Residual's forums.

That's exactly the way I wish it turns out.

That's a shame, Seeing as you have good vision and the talent to join.
I think the main priority is updating textures and tweaking the engine for now ... So I don't think we need someone who can commit much of his/her time working on it. You could spent 2~3 months on a single model. In other words, I don't think Thunder is aiming for an early release.
Also, If you were to re-model the backgrounds, You definitely didn't have to commit much time since I'm working on the simple geometry of the backgrounds. You could focus on the hard to model objects in the backgrounds.
Just a thought. Has Tim even considered buying the rights to Grim Fandango from Lucasarts? Since Lucasarts isn't doing anything with the rights at the moment.
Double Fine got the license from Disney/LucasArts to make an HD remastered version of Grim Fandango. It's going to be published by Sony for PS4 and PSP (they're going to announce other platforms soon, so hopefully PC and Mac will be on that list too.
And I was surprised to see this thread pop back up after three years. For those of us not following Double Fine, please let us know when it shows up on PC!
Also surprising was Disney's agreement to license something not Star Wars from LucasArts. Let's hope that starts a trend!
I'm quite surprised and excited to post that this is actually getting made.

I'm pretty sure this is funded by Sony so the chances are slim. I kinda like it, Sony needs as many exclusives as they can get and it gives you a reason to buy a vita or a ps4

I've never played the original, but heard good things about it being a cult classic for the classic point and click adventure genre. I remember watching a playthrough several years back and I thought the story was really good.
I'll definitely check out the Vita version sometime. I know we have little to no info, but did they at least say if it was remastered or a port?

We could have Glottis and Eva though. (I don't think Eva was sprouted or went on to the land of eternal rest...)
That's horrible. I love it.
Just give it a bit of a polish and it'll look as good as new.
Wait until he wears his working clothes.

Thread: Grim Fandango remastered coming!
I don't know how many of the folks from the old days are still here, but....

YES YES YES
Schafer said on twitter they will "talk about other platforms soon". It'll surely come to PC

If Double Fine was able to pick the rights for Grim, why cannot Telltale take Monkey Island again?
