Quick FYI, the new issue is out already. Looks like they changed the scheduling again, and guess who's back.

"Autographed by Jack London. Nice. Maybe if I pee on it a little, I can come back for it."

Oh my god, I nearly lost it. Im loving the humor in this issue, including all the ways the three Bs were snapping at each other, lol.

And really cant wait to see what Mary's ex (Knave of hearts makes so much sense, lol) and the Crooked Man are going to do with her.

Im glad its switched to Mondays so I can have something to look forward to after the weekend.

  • Not to mention it is yet ANOTHER Alice in Wonderland reference. :D

  • I can see them doing a spin off comic about Wonderland. That would be pretty good, especially if we can get to see Alice from the mother comic leading it.

Not much in this issue in terms of present day. Though it was a bit different to see Bigby and Beast in more argument (And the fact that the whole Yohann's bitcher shop option was cut out of the conversations) nothing was really interesting.

And sigh, not another Blood Mary flashback. They are really starting to drag with her backstory. I was hoping for another character's backstory to start......

  • What? McManus just decided to change Bigby's physique out of nowhere in issue 35 WTF

  • Ehh, every artist draws him differently

  • Well the art was truly fucking horrific in this one. Don't like McManus's style anyway, but Jesus.

  • I know these comics have been available for months but I only just discovered they existed! Do you think they will continue inventing new stories once they finish telling the Telltale story ? It would be nice if they continued the story if Telltale decides not to make a second season.

  • Welcome to the club, lol. I hope they will continue, Im enjoying the comic very much, although I seem to be in the minority at times, lol. I still believe a season two of the game is very much possible but I think the comic could stand on its own too, as a sort of sequel to the game, like there are comic seasons to cancelled tv shows.

Mark Buckingham always had Bigby be a muscly guy, covered in hair, in Fables :P

  • Ah yes, the Jersey Devil. A glorious sight to behold. I liked this issue. A little bit different than what happens if you go to the Lucky Pawn first, but still interesting.

As for the backstory, the more the Mary-er! (bad pun, I get it) I thought this issue was going to be more of Mary's backstory with the Crooked Man guiding her to become his bodyguard.

All of a sudden, there's a short-haired woman in his house sitting at a table. Then the Knave calls her 'Darling' which simply means that their in a relationship, right? Well it turns out that this woman is ABIGAIL WILLIAMS (Salem Witch, previous lover of Crane, the little girl 'Rachel', and probably Aunty Greenleaf).

It might not seem like much, but during episodes 4 and 5 of TWAU, I was kinda hoping that Bloody Mary was Aunty Greenleaf's long lost daughter. Of course, in the comics thats not possible, but its good to see them in the same room. Abigail doesn't look like herself, though; she's purposely cutting her hands with the glass shards of the Mary's baby just to put it back together. The Knave isn't making things better ("You know how much it hurts when you disappoint me"), making me think that she's not in this relationship because she loves him, but probably for another reason.

Hopefully the comic gets better from here!

  • While they changed the scene replacing Jack and Toad with Woody and Jersey, I quite liked the present day part as well (and Jersey punching Woody, makes him less of a pushover when he's not transformed).

While I am still a bit disappointed that they didn't move on from Mary's backstory, I guess I am slowly (at a snail's pace, I guess) warming up to them extending Mary's backstory. And I am a bit intrigued to find Abigail here.

It was a nice issue, and Travis Moore's art wasn't too bad either.

  • I think to make up for Mary being 'underused' in TWAU, they want to give us as much as they can about her in the comic to make up for it :)

  • Yeah, but I did wish for them to explore other characters as well, you know? Not just focus too much on Mary.

And while I am (slowly) warming up to them extending Mary's backstory (to certain extent), I'd still hate it if they decided to extend her backstory until right up to the point when Bigby and Mary fight in the Steelworks. That would be a complete overkill (and waste of space, when that space can be used to explore backstories of other characters, and/or give Bigby some new scenes with Snow, that weren't in the game).

  • Personally, I wouldnt have wanted them to move on too suddenly, which to me, would feel like they were just dropping it. I like what they are doing here, now that she is established, theyre weaving her backstory into the others since all these characters seem to be closely related to each other. Now that the Crooked Man is being established and Jersey, I think they will definitely get more backstory, with the Crooked Man being the other biggest antagonist besides Mary getting at least as big a build up. Thats what Im anticipating. I think they know what they are doing and how they want to roll out the story and characters, lets not rush it, lol. Im hoping that this means the comic will continue for awhile to come. It has to with how much material theyre adding in.

Btw, when Bigby slammed Jersey into the display case, was anyone else thinking, "Glass him!

Lol, mate, I seriously hope you're not thinking of just leaving it up on the shelf (unread) just because you're sad.

I was incredibly sad too before opening (and reading) my book, and I still am sad that it ended, but I do not regret a moment of reading it (despite my criticisms of the book).

All good things come to an end at some point, so I guess only advice I can give you is just accept that and take that first (brave) step of reading (not skimming, lol) the book.

Otherwise, I don't know what to say.

    Haha, sorry mate.

I guess your previous comment reminded me of the conversation we had several months ago. Not sure specifically what we were discussing (from my memory, I think it may have been 1001 tales of Snowfall, with characters' origin stories, but not sure), but I remember us discussing Arabian Nights, and I mentioned I read the novel when I was little.

I remember you replying to my post saying you also had the book, but you never got around to reading it, and it was left on your shelf (unread) for a long time (I'm going by my memory here, correct me if I'm wrong).

I thought you were having the same situation again here, hehe...

Fables will forever remain in my possession. I still have my Fairest Volume 5 pre-order coming in about 2 weeks (August 25th it said) and soon I will get my hands on the Unwritten/Fables Crossover...

THEN, I shall start buying TPB's of TWAU comic :D

Yeah, I have my Fairest Vol 5 coming soon like you, and already have TWAU TPB 1 on preorder (Amazon says early November 2015), though I haven't preordered Vol. 2 just yet (Amazon states March 2016).

And Unwritten/Fables Crossover was great. Sure, it has the whole Snow being Mr. Dark's wife thing (which I'm still not too fond of), and I didn't really care for the Unwritten characters, but the action in the volume is awesome (having read both Volume 22 and the crossover, I have to say, comparing in pure action part, the crossover basically trumps over Vol.22), with Bigby looking badass again.

Do you think they will show some Crooked Man backstory? When he had his first appearance he was kinda "nice" to Mary. Iam still trying to find out why Mary followed his commands in A Wolf Among Us. Was it really because he treated her well? Usually a "evil" leader is the strongest of them, but he had no real power (to fight other fables I mean). I hope they will show us some Crooked Man story, I want to know how he "really" thinks, and it would be a good moment to change from Marys point of view to the Crooked Mans. I would like to know how he became crooked and obsessed with money-making.

When I first played The Wolf Among Us I didnt thought the Crooked Man was the real boss. And even now Iam not really sure about that. I always thought the Headless Horseman was behind all that and that would be even more reason for Crane to be afraid. And the severed heads-scenario could be a indication for that. I mean if they ever make a Season 2 there has to be some new villain and at least some connection to the first game (I dont think they would make a whole game only about this Nerissa/Faith mystery). What do you think? Dont get me wrong I love this game and the Crooked Man being the one who leads them makes this story awesome. But while playing this game for the first time I dont really thought he was the leader, I always expected the real one to show up near the end of the game. Or that the Crooked Man was actually galmoured and in actually someone with great power. When I threw him down the witching well I expectet that he turns into a dragon once he had no chance of getting out alive otherwise. Kinda ridicolous thinking of me afterwards I guess :p

  • If you don't mind me asking, why so?
