  • I seriously wasn't expecting that outcome with Greenleaf's tree!

  • What do you mean? Bigby burning the tree or it being the same tree in Salem? I wasn't surprised at all when Bigby burned the tree. I was surprised by it being the same tree in Salem.

I knew the Salem stuff would tie back in so I wasnt surprised about that. I was surprised at how gruesome the Mary storyline has gotten. And that baby! Like something out of a horror film. He does look a lot like Mary's ghost self with the cracked, mirror like skin. I cant believe we still dont know who that mirror man is. Talk about being teased to death, lol

  • Youre missing out on a lot of excellent backstory.

  • Meh, I can do without it.

  • Is this comic or the actual game what's considered canon to the rest of Fables?

I seriously wasn't expecting him to burn the tree. Burning the tree seemed like the "wrong" move in the game. In the game, Snow was overreacting, but the player could make Bigby keep a more level head. I thought this was good from a character development standpoint. Both Bigby and Snow are strong characters, and each has different opinions. I've only read Issues 1 - 5 of Fables, but it didn't seem to me like Bigby was the type of person to do everything that Snow told him to do.

In issue 29 of the TWAU comic, Bigby burns the tree without a second's hesitation. He comes off looking like Snow's henchman (or maybe "lapdog"). He only thinks about it after the fact, rationalizing that he did it to support Snow. Only then does he wonder if he's a monster.

Overall, I've liked the portrayal of Bigby in the TWAU comic, but I was disappointed in this decision.

  • The TWAU comic and the game follow the same storyline. There are slight changes in the comic, and there is a bunch more background information in the comic.

I've heard it said that the game is canon. However, player choices sometimes have more influence than just dialog changes. Therefore, if there is going to be one definitive, canon story, we can't really rely on the game to present it. I see the comic as the definitive, canon story and the game as variations on that story, where the player can see what would have happened had Bigby made slightly different decisions.

  • I'm not sure that the mirror guy is a real fable; in other words, I'm wondering if he was just made up for the purposes of the comic.

Hopefully we'll find out more about him soon!

  • If I read that correctly, then some of the choices from the game are just what-ifs? That somewhat hurts my enjoyment of the game.

  • Everything I said is really just my opinion, and I wouldn't let it affect your enjoyment of the game. I enjoyed the story as it was presented in the game immensely, and I felt like my choices helped me become more invested in the characters.

  • Well, keep in mind that this is happening decades in the past compared to Fables and even then Bigby was making foolish choices because of his infatuation with Snow. He learns but slowly. The player in the game could make Bigby have a level head but they had to set them down on a certain path here and the tree burning is certain to have repercussions and big ones.

A few days ago I head the strange idea that he could be the crooked man. Maybe Mary found him and made him crooked or even made him old(er) and "ugly" with some magic. Maybe because of that act she became the real Bloody Mary and remained with him cause they were now both evil. I liked the idea a few minutes, but then I realized that the TWAU Bloody Mary has far too much respect for the crooked man. I hope the comics will also tell the story how the crooked man became crooked and what became of the crooked cat and the crooked mouse.

Back to the mirror guy: He has some resemblance with Bigby and after I saw the baby I got a very bad feeling that for the Fables Comics.

In case you havent read Fables to Issue 149 dont continue to read, massive spoilers ahead:

In the last TWAU comic issue they printed the word "shattered" bold. And since Bigby is shattered as well and looks very similar like the mirror guy, Bloody Mary will have an important role in the last issue of Fables. Maybe she will control or destroy Bigby. It cant be coincidence that the mirror guy looks like Bigby (which is shattered at the end) and has a "shattered" baby from Mary. Iam very excited to see whats coming next

  • I agree with this :)

It was stated somewhere that every choice in the game is technically a canon choice to the overall storyline of Fables, but some of what you can have Bigby do just doesn't fit his personality in the comics... imo that is.

TWAU comic, to me, is much more faithful to the Fables comics than the game is in terms of character personalities and actions. Plus the extra background we are getting is perfect!

  • Nothing really new happened in the Bigby's present (in terms of TWAU comic) day section, though I was surprised at seeing Snow use the s@#$% word.

And I chuckled when that Greenleaf b@#$%'s tree burned. She deserved it.

As for Mary's backstory, wow that sure was bloody (but I guess I should have expected that, from previous issue). I wonder why Mirror Man was so obsessed with a child.

Well, here's hoping he gets what he deserves soon enough.

  • Well, now we sorta know why her name is Bloody Mary...Gosh...What happened was just pure nightmare fuel...

  • Issue #30. Um.... Yeah, that took a turn.

  • How so? :/
