It just doesn't make sense to me how Taylor could win. How does a pop album pretty much entirely about relationships beat the other albums going for the award? I don't get it. Half of Grammy's is a popularity statement...which is why I think it's awesome Kendrick won all the rap category, really thought it might go to Nicki or Drake for a second haha.
I was pretty sure Kendrick would win. Still really enjoyed If You're Reading This It's Too Late. Liked it way more than I thought I would. Iwoulda been pissed if Nicki's album won though. Truffle Butter was a solid song, but eh.
As for the Grammy's, it basically is a music industry popularity contest. Taylor is a sales juggernaut at a time when most artists can't even go gold, so her supremacy isn't too surprising.

Yeah I definitely enjoyed Drake's album, I just don't think it had the backbone to win the award this year...and wouldn't really make sense if it beat TPAB. Even though I love both albums TPAB really was and is just a masterpiece, and that's not jumping on the hype train, I legitimately love it that much. No song on the album is bad in my eyes. I've listened to it at least 15 times through from start to finish, every time I get a new understanding or experience from it, no matter how cheesy that sounds.
And you're right, the funny thing about this is that TPAB will be remembered 20 years down the track, even longer, I doubt Swift's will. It lacks longevity. It's not that her music is 'bad', and everyone is entitled to their opinion, I just don't see how far '1989' will really go. Give it a few years and it will probably only be remembered for its award. I get you though.

Blu is one of my favorite rappers because he's a cool, consummate everyman. He doesn't have to talk shit or brag, he just raps. I find that I can relate to what he's saying more than I can with people like Drake and ScHoolboy Q. Also his producer sets him up with great beats. I'm pretty sure this one samples Django Reinhart who was an amazing jazz guitarist. Some of his work made an appearance in Bioshock.
Sounds good. I'll look some more up of him, pretty sure you've linked him before, you must like his stuff! Django is a jazz legend, sick sample if it is.

More funk than hip-hop, but this was probably my favorite song off Kendrick's new album/EP/whatever.

Has a weird bossanova thing going on, it's kinda cool.
Earl Sweatshirt. I've just been loving his shit lately. He's not the most exciting rapper, but easily one of the most technically gifted.
"desolate testaments, tryin' to stay Jekyllish / but most ni**as Hyde and Brenda just says pregnant" is probably one of my favorite lines ever. Vince Staples goes hard as fuck too.
Back in the day there was a rap and hip hop thread I really enjoyed, but I can't find it anymore so I figured I would make a new one if that is ok
I found the thread, and I will be merging the two.

Yep.
Yeeeeeeaaaaah!
Kendrick did not win best album, Taylor metaphorically told Kanye to fuck off.
Of course Taylor won best album. She's Billboard and Clear Channel's favorite.

I've always respected that she can rap about more intelligent and positive subject matter and still have some bite to her music.
I dig her.
What's funny is that To Pimp A Butterfly was the fifth or sixth highest rated album on metacritic with an aggregated score of 96%...

Press the 'link' button. Nice choice btw, Blacker The Berry is such an aggressive and powerful song. Love it.
Man, I love that song. Possibly my favorite of 2015, although the single version of "These Walls" is very close.
@Chilled
KENDRICK DROPPED A NEW ALBUM! It's on Spotify and iTunes.
I heard man gonna buy it as soon as I can! Pumped!
I listened to it on Spotify. It's pretty avant-garde...even by TPAB standards.
More funk than hip-hop, but this was probably my favorite song off Kendrick's new album/EP/whatever.

I heard Untitled Unmastered was quite good. Something I'll have to look at when I make my next rounds of music dipping.
I'd take any Kendrick album ahead of it, but it's still a very interesting piece of work.
Some Rock rap. My favorite type of rap :P
