I've sat through the nastiest downer endings Hollywood can throw at me: ARLINGTON ROAD, SEVEN, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, THE MIST. I'm sure Telltale can try to out-nasty them all if they want, but I don't play a video game to reach a miserable conclusion I can't affect in the slightest. Perhaps the best way is an idea someone else on this forum has suggested: The player is faced with a choice of humanity or survival. The former leaves the protagonist's sense of decency and righteousness intact, but gets you killed, while the latter allows you to see another day, albeit at the cost of your soul. Both endings would be melancholic in their own right, but how "optimistic" or "pessimistic" they'd be is ultimately left for the player to interpret.

The more I think about it, the more I believe this is the best possible route they can take with season 2.

You picked, literally, the worst universe to have a happy ending in. This is The Walking Dead! Prepare your tears of utter despair for Season 2.

  • That's a pretty interesting idea, since Walking Dead does explore both themes of humanity and survival. I wouldn't mind seeing this happen.

  • you bring up a good point,Telltale said they had the ending written before finishing the game and it was always going to end like that,But if i can be cynical it was always going to get more people talking than a happy ending of Lee and Clem riding off into the sunset,it seems it's the rule now, that it should end with some major grief over something or someone else dying for the sake of it,which i don't agree with.

If the story is good enough it will stay with you, like Duck dying, the atmosphere on the train,Carley, caring for Clem, the st Johns, even triggers like cutting Clems hair to have more of a bond with her,in the end the ending was unexpected thats why it worked so well but it shouldn't mean death either.

Our good friend DomeWing333 brought up this theory which I find most marvelous. This is something I really want it to play out.

"Shel could probably be the main PC in Season Two based on the fact that in the epilogue chapter of 400 Days, her subtitle color is white, as opposed to a different color like everyone else. They only reserve white subtitles for PCs or really short-lived characters. She seems like she'd be a pretty good PC as well since her personality is not as well-defined and her choices in 400 Days seem the most significant. She also has pretty good reasons for developing an instant affinity for Clementine when she meets her, (which is important for the player to be able to identify with the PC). She mentioned wanting to protect small, fragile things and Clementine might remind her of pre-jaded Becca.

When Clementine meet Becca... The situation would be ripe for interesting drama to play out. Maybe Clementine will silently put up with Becca's abuse until Becca says something REALLY bitchy, like maybe something negative about Lee. Maybe Clem loses her temper and just goes ballistic. Maybe she even accidentally kills Becca and then needs to deal with the ramifications of that."

  • Shel is possible, but I don't think she's very likely. If we're to assume the events of 400 DAYS will be imported into season 2, what will happen if she chose to stay at the camp with Becca? Unless Telltale found a way to quickly gloss over that, the more probable candidate out of the entire 400 cast would still be Bonnie, as she accompanies Tavia no matter what you do.

I don't think Season Two will start up with an immediate follow-up on the group from 400 Days. It'll probably start with Clementine trying to find them. In this case Shel and Becca. Possible scenario one: Shel and Becca didn't come with Tavia and remains at the campsite. Clementine meet up with them at their old camp or somewhere in the wilderness. From there they maybe decide to give Tavia's settlement a try now when they have Clementine to look after. They immediately make their way for the settlement somehow. Possible scenario two: Shel and Becca leaves with Tavia. Then perhaps Clementine just happens to walk into Tavia or someone else from the settlement which brings her there and eventually meet Shel and Becca once arrived. Possible scenario three: It is Tavia or someone else from her settlement she see in the distance during the final cutscene in Episode Five. She is taken to the settlement and about nine months later meet Shel and Becca when time syncs up for after 400 Days. There is also chances of Tavia's settlement being all a lie and Shel and Becca is the only characters to escape. Perhaps a Woodbury situation. Now they're free to meet Clementine and develop the story from there.

    So many possibilities.

Oh snap! I didn't even notice the shout out. Thanks a lot, new forum. Anyway, if Shel is indeed the new main character, it would be interesting if Season 2 started out with two entirely different sequences depending on whether Shel stayed at the camp or whether she followed Tavia to the settlement. Of course, the sequences would have to converge at some point but a lot could be done before that happens. She might even meet up with Clementine at different times because of it. I know the writers wanted to really push the choice mattering thing in Season 2 and starting the Season with the story already being branched due to a previous decision would be a very cool way to do it.

  • I like the idea of having different opening scenarios depending on which of the 400 Days crew stayed at the camp. Having them meet up with someone like Clementine would be a nice subversion to people thinking that someone not going with Tavia would have automatic negative consequences.

There'd be a lot of variation to account for though.

  • I don't remember my choices in 400 Days and don't care to do them over since I do remember not having enough detail to feel like I was making the right or wrong choice. I didn't trust any of the playable characters and I could see all of them easily being different than what you think at first. It seemed like they were putting you in the shoes of all these different characters because it makes players see them as good instantly which means nothing until you know if they are a main playable character though.

Most of the information that was withheld from you in making your choices was also withheld from the characters you were playing as. You had about as much information as Vince did about Danny and Justin, you had as much information as Wyatt did about Eddie shooting that guy, you had about as much information as Russell did about Nate, you had as much information as Bonnie did about what was going on in the corn field, and you had as much information as Shel did about the situation with Stephanie.

And honestly, you had no more reason to trust Lee for the first half hour of Episode 1 than you did to trust of the 400 days survivors. Shel, Russell, and Wyatt seemed pretty straight forward characters to me. Vince and Bonnie were the only ones who might have been a little iffy but I played Bonnie as a super nice person so I trust her. Vince is the only one I'm unsure about but Wyatt did mention that he saved him so that's something. Oh and there's Tavia but she barely counts.

  • I am really looking forward to the details we are going to be getting this month,I really hope we get to find out who the protagonist is as well.

  • The anticipation for season 2 is all that's keeping me alive right now. Everything else in my life has turned to crap.

  • Ain't that the truth.

Hey people ;) I found a little info about season 2. It's not much, but I would like to share it with you :)

    http://www.gamezone.com/news/2013/10/07/telltale-s-the-walking-dead-season-two-coming-pretty-soon

Sounds good for me. In the other hand I wan't trailer, info about game or just release date...

  • That "Pretty Soon" we've known for months now.

  • Yeah. I said it's not much, but after all it's SOMETHING. Better something than nothing :D

I would really apreciate a following Situation:

The game starts with an entirely dark screen (or a scene in which you can't see any characters) and there are only voices, two people having a dialogue via phone / Walkie-Talkie or else and you as the player gotta give different meaningful answers without knowing for sure who your are or what's really going on. I think this situation would be awesome for building suspense as well as to test your behavior in an unpredictable moment. It'd be extra suspenseful if there was uncertainty about danger coming or not.

There was 2 unnamed men in the pictures, are they the two shadows?

    I still think he's alive :P

  • Where did the release track thread go to?

  • edited November 2013

It's still there but renamed, something like "season 2 - before x-mas release"

Edit: Sorry my mistake: turns out, one of the mods deleted the thread by accident

@CoDZ_Immortal That'd ruin her shy, careful, and reserved character.

Anyone else want a Clem versus the Governor season?

  • Anyone else want a Clem versus the Governor season?

  • I'm not saying break her of her character and have her turn into a Rick 2.0. I'm just saying have her meet the Governor and maybe Lilly, giving her some incentive on wanting to escape Woodbury or something like that.
