  • In the context of these games (and maybe in other things as well), what makes a character for you?

  • If you're asking what makes a character a good fit for me, then I prefer characters who are fiercely protective over their family (by blood or group) and a get them before they come for you mentality. Someone a lot like S5 and S6 Rick is actually a great example.

  • Interesting. I was asking more about what type of things makes up a character, such as personality and background, because of comparisons between Season 1 characters and the Cabin Group. I'm trying to decide if I should make a thread dedicated to either one or both.

  • Oh, ok. Hmm... Consistency, a character's motivation, having a connection with the gamer and others within the game, and the way the character looks all helps, imo. Hope that helps.

  • What...?

So I've heard. Apparently, chicks dig them vulnerable uke-types. If that's true, then Kenny abusing him in front of Sarah would've been a death wish.

  • Bitching.

(Nah, she fights for her own survival and "takes care" of Clem because she's the only one she can bear and wants company or something like that).

In some game plays it doesnt give you an option to be able to stop clementine before she eats mark. No matter how fast I was and kept replaying she still ended up eating it, it wasnt like this in my first gameplay, anyone else notice this?

  • What makes up a character for me is the following, in broad terms:

    1. Their level of naivety or cunning intelligence.

    2. Whether their actions are impulsed by morality, by convenience to themselves, by convenience to their group, or simply by unfiltered whims.

    3. Whether their instincts are to fight, flight or freeze.

    4. Whether they communicate assertively.

    5. How they react to strangers and their feelings.

    6. Their relationships to surrounding characters.

    7. How they act under calm, uninteresting circumstances.

    8. How they look.

These are general points I consider.

  • She is a dynamic character.

Jane started the apocalypse fighting for her own survival and that of Jaime, but that motivation soon crumbled after the latter's death. During her brief stay at Howe's Hardware, her goal shifted onto completing whatever job she was assigned to be given shelter and food. After that, her goal was to teach Clementine the importance of self-reliance and that, if the choice was between staying with her group and dying or leaving and surviving, she should be capable of choosing the latter; her goal was also briefly to assure the well-being of Clementine's group. Finally, if you stick with her, her goal can either be to protect herself, Clementine and Alvin Junior; and also to start a thriving community of survivors.

The one constant goal that remains simultaneously to all of the above is to keep herself alive at all costs, which also applies to most other characters.

  • Sarah hated seeing people get hurt in general and she gets noticeably impulsive or aggressive(as much as you'd expect from her, anyway) when Carver hits Carlos or Clementine respectively, so Kenny beating on Arvo might just reveal an unseen side of her.

    What...?

  • Aw...

  • You know what, that is both a great answer and a justification for my confusion. Ultimately, she's out for her own survival but she'll take on other considerations until that runs it's course.

Well, more like "Beware the Nice/Quiet Ones." After all, I didn't say she'd take on Kenny over that, just that she'd probably try to stop him a lot more recklessly than Clementine would. And THEN she'd probably cry afterwards depending how worked up everyone is.

Also, I think/know people overexaggerate her childish and depressive traits alongside how clumsy/ineffectual/whatever she can be at times, especially once you remember that she can handle tenser situations on occasion and most of the Season occurs over the course of 2-3 weeks.
