I ran software updates on my Macbook Pro to fix an issue with another software package. I installed a variety of updates including the 10.5.8 update, latest Java, latest Quicktime, etc. I wish I had written them all down or done them one at a time but I really wasn't thinking about Monkey Island at the time. In any case, I decided to try Monkey Island Episode 1 again over the weekend (after the updates) and it now works. I'm not sure which update fixed it. It HAS frozen up at least once during each game play requiring a hard restart of the Mac so I save often. Also, at occasionally Guybrush's hair goes crazy and parts of it seem to draw themselves almost down to the ground and then stay that way for the remainder of the play session. It gives my daughters a good "unintentional" laugh! I'll try to grab a screen shot the next time it happens.
Hmm, the thing with Guybrush's hair could be some corrupted data, which redownloading and reinstalling would fix. More likely though, I bet your Macbook is overheating a bit. Maybe elevating it or putting something cool under it would keep the hair from exploding (and likely stop it from crashing as well).
I had the first episode crash on me when I connected my bluetooth mouse while in game. The way TMI is setup, if it crashes you have to to do a hard reboot even if it doesn't take down the operating system because all the keys that would let you switch programs or use expose to get out of the game and kill the process do not work when the game is in its full screen mode.
Other mac games, like World of Warcraft for example, allow you to switch applications while in game so you are not locked out of your computer if it freezes and you can switch between the game and a guide for example. Is there any chance that TMI could be changed to work that way? It would be great if the problem was fixed in the next update.
I'm running 10.5.8 on my new iMac, but I have the same problem as most have reported here, which is the first episode quits upon launch. My graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 9400.
Just tried launching it again, and all of a sudden Ep 3 is working. The only thing I've done in last 5 minutes is log in and out of Telltale site and when launch menu comes up, right clicked and refreshed page. Don't know, still seems completely random. I also mounted the .DMG file and clicked on game from there. hope something here might help a little. BTW, I'm running imac 20" intel core duo 2.0 ghz 2 GB, and Radeon x1600.

I can get TMI Episode 1 to run 99% with no problems. The only legitimate bug I encountered was while trying to
get to the big Wind God Idol. After placing the flowers in the well, the windvane rapidly cuts between pointing north and south, while my correct exit direction was east.
Additionally,
firing the cannon during the finale resulted in no cannon sound effect.
Which was actually kinda funny since Guybrush then makes a remark about deafening explosions or something like that.
Finally, sometimes the camera locks on to a certain angle, even when you run to a different part of a stage that normally cues a camera change. Triggering an autosave and/or exiting to a different area fixes it, but I'm not sure why/how it occurs. Again, not a dealbreaker, but a still a bug.
The only real problem I head was after exiting the game. The TellTale Game launcher fails to reinitialize with play game/quit button options; it just the window background with no options. I can force quit and/or manually close by hitting the window jewel buttons at the top, but it registers as a "unexpected quit." This doesnt happen all the time, however; I can replicate it maybe 50% of the time, more frequently when the game runs at a lower resolution than my computer's native one.

Dizzley, it sounds like you might be overheating. You could try putting your mac on a cooling pad? At any rate it sounds like you've gotten it playable.
So I've given up trying to figure it out, as I've tried just about everything. It just randomly works. Don't know, only thing left for me to wonder is if the games were compiled correctly?
I am not sure but perhaps this might be a problem with conflicting QT versions. When starting from commandline I get the following

Bus error
Ok, me again. I started with the dyld export mentioned in the output of my last post. Skimming the output seems to indicate that Dyld gets some QT related stuff form the Game package some from /Library/Frameworks and some from /Developer/Application
Whether this is a problem I have no idea.

TMI hanging on Macbook Pro 2.33G ATY,RadeonX1600 256mb graphics.
This is annoying I get 1 or 2 minutes of TMI 101 and it hangs my Macbook completely. I too have a RadeonX1600 256mb graphics card.
I bought the Macheist bundle for this and I'm a longterm Monkey Island fan.
Please - anyone got any settings advice? Anything at all really...
This is exactly what happens to me, although my MBP is a slightly lower spec (2.16GHz Core 2 Duo, 128MB X1600). It works fine until a minute or so into the opening cut-scene and then the video freezes but music and dialogue continue, and when the dialogue runs out it just hangs with the music playing. Couldn't force quit or anything.
Dizzley, it sounds like you might be overheating. You could try putting your mac on a cooling pad? At any rate it sounds like you've gotten it playable.
Hey, nice advice and one other thing one could do about it, use smbFanControl and run the fans at higher rotation level, BUT, although this works perfectly alright for Bioshock at highest quality and 1920x1200 resolution, it doesn't work for for Tales of Monkey Island, even with lower quality settings and lower resolution... on a Mac Pro and ATI Radeon X1900 card...
C'mon seriously, how bad is your game's code that it is more power hungry than the UT3 engine used to its limit (almost)...

I've downloaded the first 4 chapters of TMI, but none of them run on my iMac. They bounce in the dock for a couple minutes, then stop and sit there, without the little dot underneath that indicates an app is running. When I click and hold on the icon, I have to force-quit.
I'm on a 2GHz Intel Core Duo iMac with OS X 10.6.2. I ran the first couple chapters of the game in Boot Camp on the same computer, so I assume they should run fine on the Mac side too.
Anyone else having issues like this?
I am having the same problems. I have a support ticket. I hope that the support team can troubleshoot this soon. I do not understand why it would be included in the bundle if they were aware of the problems.
I tried all the methods described in this forum. I will post any solution that the company gives me.

I had 4.5, and seeing that TrollTech had an upgrade available, I tried upgrading to 4.6, but, to no avail I'm afraid ... Only this time, the error messages I had in my first attempt about "two sets ..." were gone. Are there people that actually run this app with no problems? What specs do they have, then?
Got to read the note on the pole once...then froze...had no option other than to restart. Second time I didn't even get to the note on the pole. Running OS X 5.8 with a Radeon 9600 graphics card (not upgradeable--iMac).

it worked with me. i'm running 10.5.8
and the game launched without crashing after repairing the permissions.
i was excited when it happened that i forgot to copy the repair message :S and closed the Disk Utility window.
hope it does work with you guys.
Other mac games, like World of Warcraft for example, allow you to switch applications while in game so you are not locked out of your computer if it freezes and you can switch between the game and a guide for example. Is there any chance that TMI could be changed to work that way? It would be great if the problem was fixed in the next update.

Finally, sometimes the camera locks on to a certain angle, even when you run to a different part of a stage that normally cues a camera change. Triggering an autosave and/or exiting to a different area fixes it, but I'm not sure why/how it occurs. Again, not a dealbreaker, but a still a bug.
The only real problem I head was after exiting the game. The TellTale Game launcher fails to reinitialize with play game/quit button options; it just the window background with no options. I can force quit and/or manually close by hitting the window jewel buttons at the top, but it registers as a "unexpected quit." This doesnt happen all the time, however; I can replicate it maybe 50% of the time, more frequently when the game runs at a lower resolution than my computer's native one.

This is annoying I get 1 or 2 minutes of TMI 101 and it hangs my Macbook completely. I too have a RadeonX1600 256mb graphics card.
I bought the Macheist bundle for this and I'm a longterm Monkey Island fan.
Please - anyone got any settings advice? Anything at all really...

One person has mentioned that creating a new user on their mac has allowed them to boot the episode. Could someone else attempt this?

Hey, nice advice and one other thing one could do about it, use smbFanControl and run the fans at higher rotation level, BUT, although this works perfectly alright for Bioshock at highest quality and 1920x1200 resolution, it doesn't work for for Tales of Monkey Island, even with lower quality settings and lower resolution... on a Mac Pro and ATI Radeon X1900 card...
C'mon seriously, how bad is your game's code that it is more power hungry than the UT3 engine used to its limit (almost)...
Despite all that, thanks a lot for trying and making the effort of porting your games over to Mac, I shall have a look again in the future...

Have you tried repairing permissions? (In Utilities -> Disk Utility)
I am having the same problems. I have a support ticket. I hope that the support team can troubleshoot this soon. I do not understand why it would be included in the bundle if they were aware of the problems.
I tried all the methods described in this forum. I will post any solution that the company gives me.

Posting this again, has anyone tried it?
On Mac OS X, you might be loading two sets of Qt binaries into the same process. Check that all plugins are compiled against the right Qt binaries. Export DYLD_PRINT_LIBRARIES=1 and check that only one set of binaries are being loaded.
QObject::moveToThread: Current thread (0x11a598f0) is not the object's thread (0x3132280).
Cannot move to target thread (0x3132280)
But regardless of all the error messages, it launches! Will see if it runs as well!

I had 4.5, and seeing that TrollTech had an upgrade available, I tried upgrading to 4.6, but, to no avail I'm afraid ... Only this time, the error messages I had in my first attempt about "two sets ..." were gone. Are there people that actually run this app with no problems? What specs do they have, then?
