Speaking of Stan, I wonder who will do his voice? I like both Pat Pinney and Gavin Hammon equally, but who would the rest of you prefer?

Don't forget Pat Fraley from Escape! He did a really great job IMO.

(...)just be ready for next week as we visit the island now home to the lovely Governor Marley. Perhaps a pink dress will show up. Perhaps.

Can't wait to see how the maps of the islands will look like!

Map screens have always been my favourite. One of the very few things in Tales that was not done properly. :(

I disagree, I almost orgasmed when I saw that "zoom out" camera trick for the first time.
  • edited April 2010
I think he just means that there weren't very many places you could go...I agree. Didn't feel like the classic MI map system...

This is why we can never be friends.

To me, Stan is sort of the embodiment of everything that was wrong with Escape. I didn't like his voice actor, his lines or his character model. Pretty much everything that could've been wrong with him was wrong with him.

That's because it wasn't him. They had to use a stunt double.

    I like it
  • edited April 2010
It'll probably be Pat Pinney. The website mentions "Voice overs from the original Monkey Island Cast" and he was the original Stan (and the voice they used in the first SE.)
  • edited April 2010
Im nitpicking here but on the tree on SE you can see a dot where the orignal pixles are
  • edited April 2010
Holy crap I never realized that that sign was a guy spitting.
  • edited April 2010
This is not so successfull. The detail of the trees on the background has gone! Also the houses look weird!
  • edited April 2010
Yeah, kinda. The new graphics make it look like it's set in some fantasy world. I guess the "it's too clean" curse rears its ugly head once again. I guess I just love the grittiness of the pixelated original graphics.
  • edited April 2010
Its a good thing the voice is going to work in classic mode... so the screens I do not like I can just switch over LOL
  • edited April 2010
OMG! They fixed the typo on the banner...

Now I lost all hope for the SE :(.
  • edited April 2010
    What typo??
  • edited April 2010
Pirate's spitting contest is now Pirates' spitting contest.

    FOR SHAME LA! FOR SHAME!
  • edited April 2010
Well, it probably should be "Pirate Spitting Contest" anyways, since "pirate" becomes an adjective. So be at peace.

Also, I always read it as "Pirates'" even in the original.
  • edited April 2010
    But they aren't spitting pirates!

The ones on the left (not in the screenshot) say Pirates', yes, but this one still said Pirate's.
I can't believe I am the only one worked up about this. Why isn't the LCR fanclub raging at LA?
  • edited April 2010
It's hardly readable in the original screenshot though.
  • edited April 2010
OK, I have no idea what we're talking about now.

I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about but Pirates' seems right to me. It's possessive plural, implying that the spit contest is the possession (in grammatical terms) of pirates.
  • edited April 2010
I think some people are concentrating on all the wrong details.

You better be being sarcastic, Hassat Hunter, or I'll have lost all hope for your posts.
  • edited April 2010
But if you are serious, this is one nitpick that should be easy to fix, assuming LCR:SE is as easy to mod as SoMI:SE.

Yeah, this is why I'm confused. That, and Fealiks isn't making shit up.

Is there another sign I'm not looking at? Because Pirates' is the correct grammatical way to say "A spitting contest owned(run by, participated in by, etc) Pirates".
  • edited April 2010
I don't see anything that needs "fixing." Stan's sign in SMI:SE was one thing. This apparent "typo"? Something completely different. What is so important about every little detail that you have to go to such lengths as to "fix" them? It's like you're saying that there must be something wrong with the SE. That's not a very grateful attitude. Not everything has problems that need fixing.
  • edited April 2010
Pirate's is singular possessive. As in "a pirate's spit contest." (meaning "a contest using spit belonging to a pirate" or "a spit contest belonging to a pirate.")

Pirates' is plural possessive. As in "several pirates' spit contest." (meaning "a contest using spit belonging to several pirates" or "a spit contest belonging to several pirates.")

I'm not sure which is more appropriate.

btw. they're talking about the difference between the following classic and SE art. (look at the white banners)

...There's some speculation that the banner on the right in this top screenie says "pirate's" in the classic ver.

okay so the difference between this:

    100421131941l.png

    and this:

Hassat isn't saying they made a mistake, he's saying they FIXED a mistake.
    Apparently, that disappoints him greatly.

(Also, "Pirate's spitting context" wouldn't be "spitting contest of a pirate", because the article is missing. It would more likely be the spitting contest of a guy called "Pirate".)
  • edited April 2010
I do not care either way about the sign... the only thing pirates know how to spell is "Arrrrr!" ..."booty" and "X"

Nah, I was, don't worry. If you take the first letter of each word in that post, it spells "Dolphins are birds".

It's pretty common to miss out determiners in things like headings and signs, to save space if nothing else.

I guess, but in this specific case it just sounds wrong to me for some reason. I would definitely read it as being a guy named Pirate.

Well the spit master guy's birth name is actually Pirate Von Fresco

Edit: If I ever have a male kid, I'm definitely calling him Pirate
