Asking the Community: A Gathering of Friends

edited September 2010 in General Chat
Ok, so this is kind of random but I figure, if there's anybody that would know about a tightly knit group of people, it's the Telltale community.

My question to all of you fine people is simple:

What would you call a gathering of your group of friends or like-minded people to an outsider?

What I mean is, say you're standing at PAX, Comic-Con, Blizzcon, wherever, and a TV reporter approaches you to ask inane questions that will make them look knowledgeable on that night's local news broadcast. How would you identify yourself and your group? Heck, it could even be what you call your group of friends that gets together to play Halo on Friday nights, or meets up every weekend to play some pickup basketball. This doesn't have to be based on any particular interest, (ie. Trekkie, Browncoat). Have fun with your answers!

I'd try to be charming but at the same time give him something really original, something really strange and different. Not for myself, just to give him something cool to report on, something fun for others to read...then I'd go back to my slightly more boring ways.

I don't know why, but I can't get that episode of The Office (US) out of my head where Michael refers to him getting the guys together for a GAI (or a guys' afternoon in).

    That works right?

Well, there are females here as well (right?), and the time differences will not be able to make it easy for it to be an "afternoon in"

Oh, how about "A guy's night out"; a G-N-O if you will; a gno. No?

"Them". Or, if you prefer, "T-H-E-M".

I just tend to call my group of the friends 'the guys'.

In fact I always answer we are a group of friends who like to play together. The problem comes when I have to explain Pen and Paper RPG to anyone else (I mean, my parents still don't understand you play that without Cards!)

My friends are "The Train" and individually referred to as Kittens.

That is a side effect of your guild being Robot Kitten Happy Train, but consequently I am proud of both these classifications.

Not that it helps the question on whole.

Where are you when you refer to yourselves as said Train?

I think that claim lost all credibility around the time you started a thread specifically for people to rip on you. If that's not looking for a fight, I don't know what is.

Ah, the great Team Cootie vs. Team Argyle war. Unfortunately, both teams were left leaderless when we lost Nikki to Riot and Telltale locked Yare in the secret Telltale dungeon...or so I assume. Someone should probably go down there and make sure he's still alive.

You don't know what looking for a fight is? How about what you are trying to do right now. You are trying to make me go off on you by talking shit, but I'm above that... I never waste my time on trolls... only assholes.

Also... you may want to look at that thread some time & see just how many times I responded before you make crude accusations kthxbai

for a group of PC gamers to go and hang out, feigning interest in the real world?

I'd say Geeks Gone AFK. After all, there is no RL, there is only AFK.

Both of you knock it off, this isn't setting a good example for the new community manager and or the rest of the community, so take it to PM.

I claim credit for having started that, since I started the April Fools thread about them getting engaged. =)

    You're not my mom!

Anyway, I've been trying to think about an answer to the thread topic, and I'm still pretty much at a loss. It may not matter for much longer anyway. Out of the three friends I spend the most time with, one just had a kid and the other two are sort of feuding, so I'm not sure if my group of friends will even exist for much longer.

Word is he managed to escape but he was traumatized and refuses to go back to San Rafael now.
