I personally haven't watched it yet, but 1.It's created by a prominent crew member of Foster's Home. 2.4chan got ahold of it, almost universally noted it's (apperent) quality, used it for hundreds of pictures, and even influenced the naming and the number of appearences of a background character.
In addition, you can't just call someone a wuss for watching a show you haven't watched yet. For all you know, the show is actually about a team of parasitic worms intending on taking over the cosmos via a squadron of fish in the Indian Ocean. The show is just so well done, and it's mostly for the same reason as Powerpuff Girls' Greatness; it's a girls concept that isn't just people getting their hair done and going shopping, meaning grown men are much more likely to enjoy it then the latest 'teens in a mall' show on Cartoon Network.
Guys, if your going to hate the LT show, here is a solution. Go find the golden age cartoons DVD, and watch it and ignore it. Sheesh, not that hard to do.
Also guys A Mickey/Donald/Goofy movie may be happening. The only thing that will get me to see this if the story is good, focuses on the trio over a character that doesn't belong in the movie, and stays in 2D hand-drawn animation.
I'm a big fan of animation, although I'm not too hot on all the Disney stuff as they seem to disregard almost everything they released during the 80's, which oddly enough is the era I like, yes I'm a fan of Black Cauldron. I'm also a fan of anime, but I tend to stay away from a lot of the more recent stuff, except maybe a handful of titles. My favorite animated film...probably would be the Secret of NIHM, followed closely by Grave of the Fireflies.
Alright, I checked out some episodes of My Little Pony friendship is magic. I wil take back what I said. its okay for me to say that I like this show? I think my favorite character would have to be Rainbow Dash. Also. Why does this seem like a spiritual successor to the Powerpuff girls? For some reason, it reminds me of that.
I hope this show isn't canceled after half a season. I don't think I could take that sort of thing again...
Nah, the best part about htis kind of show is it makes it's money off of the Toys, which are selling perfectly well and it's already been picked up for another 24 episodes next season.

Yes! I can't wait for more ponies!
...I never thought I would hear myself say that. Figuratively speaking, of course.
I'm not a fan to the extent where I'm any kind of expert on the topic, but I've always enjoyed quality animation... particularly that in the style of classic Disney animation, both in their classic full lenght animation movies and their classic short animation films, the one featuring Donald Duck, Goofy, Mickey and others.
High quality animation like that is a joy to watch, and I tend to find the various backgrounds (scenery) in their shorts very charming.
The Walt Disney Treasures series of DVDs are some of the most treasured in my DVD/Bluray collection (which admittedly isn't all that big... if you discount all the installments in the Walt Disney Treasures series, if you include those my collection suddenly seems of decent size as they released quite a number of them... really excellent series of DVDs, this... such massive amounts of classic shorts, I really love them).
On the topic of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, I’ve seen most of the episodes and I do have to admit that it is a fun and well made show. Lauren Faust has done a great job and has completely changed the term “girl-show” for me.
But I think this whole “MLP is the greatest thing ever!!”-thing on the net is a fad. It won’t last long. Someone posted on a forum that this show was great, then someone else did the same on another forum and now it’s cool to dig ponies. The show is still awesome, no doubt about that. But after the first season its popularity on the web will dwindle.
I've never cared about that show whatsoever, but - I happened to like ponies long before it became 'cool'.. well, that is - I liked one specific pony... this one -
Why does this seem like a spiritual successor to the Powerpuff girls? For some reason, it reminds me of that.
Lauren Faust is married to the person who created PowerPuff girls. Also Twilight's, Rainbow Dash's and Pinkie Pie's personalities are borrowed from Blossom bubbles and Buttercup.
Also, has anyone seen the movie Secret of the kells? Reminds me of Samurai Jack
What I want to know is how on Earth that show caught on with everyone online.
Like I said, it has become a fad to like My Little Pony. Some guy posted on a forum about show and now it’s cool to dig ponies. It's some sort of self ironic trend. The big thing is not the show itself, it’s about the fact that guys in their 20's watch it and find it awesome.
Also, it’s a surprisingly well made for a MLP-show.
Okay, time to talk about actually animation-y stuff. Living right outside Portland, which seems to be the stop-motion hub of the US, I got to go to a small animation exibit at a local community college that Laika set up.
There was a lot of screen shots and concept art for a lot of their cg commercials, movie titles and such, but the big attraction was the section with all the Coraline stuff. Like the movie or not, visually, Coraline is still amazing.
They had two sets, both of Coraline's bedroom, Normal and Other. Here, I learned some intresting subtle visual ques in the movie that was quite noticeable in the sets.
The normal bedroom, in comparison to the other bedroom was created in a forced angle. Meaning, the entire set was lifted at an angle, and all the furniture and such was done so that it be at a fixed angle. Looking at this set actually hurts your brain a bit because everything looks forced and static no matter what angle you looked at it. Intrestingly enough, this was done so the normal world segments would seem theater or play-like. If you were to notice, most of the scenes shot in the normal world consist of static shots. Nothing too exciting.
The other bedroom, however, was built in typical scale model form. This was to basicly make the other bedroom seem slightly more realistic to the audience. Scenes in this world have a much more livlier movement to them. This makes this world seem far more desireable than the normal world, especially to Coraline herself.
This sort of opened my eyes up to the endless possibilities of subtle story telling through something as basic as set design. It was a very nice experience and I'm glad I was able to go.
I saw Rio yesterday, my brother takes me to see it as a late birthday gift. here's what I gotta say. I don't like Blue Sky's cartoons if anyone is wondering. However, this one caught my attention and I manage to sit through the whole movie. While parts of the movie are humorous and having a very catchy soundtrack along with a great Villain Song. I felt that certain parts of the movie had stuff in it that was forced. I won't say who said this line, but one character said "That's the Spitz!" or something on the lines of that. And the gangster stuff, uggh. I wish that they would stop shoving that stuff in nearly every animated film. It annoys me how they do that. It doesn't work for everything you know.
I would say the Villain Song makes it in my book on what makes the movie good. You gotta see how animated that this particular part is. The humans in this movie look more 'cartoony' then in most animated films that are CG. They look like Doug Tennapel designed characters. Also the birds looked rather nice as well. So you can say that I enjoyed Rio. If Blue Sky can make something like this, or on the lines of this I'd give them a chance. Although there was this one annoying kid who wouldn't shut up throughout the whole movie, he kept yelling "BIRD! BIRD! BIRD!". Somebody needs to get the Angry Birds to pulverize him for talking throughout the whole movie. Because some of us were trying to watch a movie thank you. And I hate it how a parent just grins like an idiot while his or her kid is out of hand and does nothing about it.
This thread has been very informative. Instead of getting the usual Pixar/Ghibli/Akira spiel I usually get when it comes to recommendations, I found a bunch of titles I will definitely be checking out and a few I'm heavilyanticipating (A.D and The Wrong Block).
When it comes to animation I like the aforementioned Pixar and Studio Ghibli as well as individual movies like Coraline, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and The Secret of Kells. My favorite Pixar film is easily Wall-E,but Monsters Inc is a close second.
I'm not exactly crazy about anime but I've recently discovered FLCL and I'll be damned if it isn't the most awesome thing ever. I've also been meaning to watch Cowboy Bebop, Tekkonkinkreet and Paprika. Anyone know if any of these are any good?
Lastly I'm a really big David Fincher fan and I read a lot of comics so naturally I'm pretty ecstatic about the test footage for the CG adaption of Eric Powell's Goon. The film is still in need of distributor but other than that I understand it's pretty much finished. Check it out if you haven't already:

Cowboy Bebop is easily my favorite anime of all time (right up there with Gurren Lagaan, but that one comes to a close second with Bebop...but I digress) I've been meaning to also watch Paprika, I saw the first 15 or so minutes in class and I was hooked. I also suggest Tokyo Godfathers, same guy who made Paprika, and it was just beautifully animated.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will definitely be watching Bebop and I'll look into Tokyo God Fathers. I wish I could find a trailer or online episode of Gurren Lagan so I could see what all the fuss is about.

A wuss, moi? Well now, I wouldn't say that

I'm now on episode six. I don't think I'll stop anytime soon. No matter how much my roommates make fun of me.
That's how I found Firefly and, consequently, had my heart broken and became a jaded cynic.
I hope this show isn't canceled after half a season. I don't think I could take that sort of thing again...

I didn't think I'd like it, but next thing I knew, I'd watched ten episodes.
It was actually sort of scary.
VlDEO COCAlNE
You're right! That's precisely what it is!
I'm glad I got away from that stuff when I had the chance. I've heard it can really mess you up.
Uh oh...
You did the cute smiley. It has you.
Noooooo! It can't be!
But...but...I keep seeing them. The ponies. They want me to follow them and become brightly colored and sparkly.
I don't know if I can last much longer.
Quick! Think of Rome and its many, many wars! It's your only hope!
All I can think of are Caesar's commentaries! And they were boring!
Take that back! Nothing about Caesar was boring! NOTHING AT ALL!
Never!
Okay...well, maybe they weren't that boring. One gets sort of jaded toward his writing when the rate of translation is about a paragraph a day.
But, I just remembered Vespasian! All is well!
You've now forgotten the ponies. Thank me later.
Curses! You just reminded me!
And I will not thank you later!
You cruel, cruel person, you. I hope you are ashamed of yourself.
Ponies as an instrument of destruction. How could you?
Drowning one's conscience in vermouth helps.
I suppose that's an acceptable solution.
