    Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood 8/10

Not as good as Gladiator, and Russell Crowe ain’t no Errol Flynn, but I thought it was a damn good medieval action film.

    Martin Scorsese’s Cape Fear 7.5/10

De Niro is absolutely terrifying in this movie, and Nolte is very convincing as Sam Bowden, but Jessica Lange and Julliette Lewis are SO FUCKING ANNOYING!

Cheers to the parts with Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum, though.

The Peck and Mitchum version is not only one of my favorite films, it's one of the scariest films I've ever seen. Mitchum just does such a good job of giving me the creeps.

Forgot to mention this yesterday, but Lethal Weapon - 7/10

It hasn't aged well, the plot is surprisingly basic and the action scenes (particularly the final fight) aren't shot particularly well, but the two leads work well together and I still enjoyed it.

    Black Snake Moan 8.5/10

A great movie about sexual promiscuity and redemption, and to top it off, an amazing soundtrack.

    Fuckin’ Samuel L., man.

    Digimon the movie
Having just finished a marathon of the second season (thankyou netflix!) I figured I should rewatch the movie as now I knew who all the characters were. If anyone hasn't seen it, it's basically a compressed version of the first three Japanese movies, edited so that they kind of fit together. As a result it's missing around half an hour of footage, and several key characters are removed entirely from the third plot arc. It's a fairly decent film, but I wouldnt go out of my way to watch it.

    7/10

Digimon the movie 2: Revenge of Diaboramon
I would struggle to call this a movie, seeing as it was only 30 minutes long, but apparently it is. It felt kind of rushed, and like a mediocre episode of the show.
    4.5/10

Boondock Saints II: All Saint’s Day 8/10

    Great action-comedy.

There Will Be Blood, starring Daniel Day-Lewis.

This is a great movie, taking place towards the end of the old west. It starts with Daniel Plainsview (Day-Lewis) mining for gold. Through a well done time jump, he becomes an honest "oil man," as he calls himself, looking for a new well. he then finds a particularly potent oil well located in a region with a strange local religion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xh3VXO4zwXc). Through time, he eventually becomes crazier and crazier. Certain events begin making him lose his temper, and make odd, evil choices. Despite what you might think from the title; there is very little action in this movie, and what little there is is nothing special. Day-Lewis plays Plainsview perfectly, and his character's son does extremely well too, but my favorite performance is the priest, Eli, who's actor I've never seen.

This film had a fascinating development, incedentally; what started life as a brilliant take on The Curious Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde centered around criminal investigations from the Duke of Nottingham was meddled with over several years by a plethora of executives to change it into the generic action film it became with no unique additions to the Robin Hood story.

It's a bit spoilery, though. I was laughing so hard when I came up to that, mainly because it was unexpected.

Me to, I was never expecting anything like that, and I would say without a doubt Daniel Day Lewis earned that Oscar.
  • edited August 2013
    Hell yes.
"PAUL IS THE SMART ONE. WHERE WERE YOU WHEN HE WAS SUCKLING YOUR MOTHERS TEET?"
    That was an awesome scene.
  • edited August 2013
Yep, another great scene, finding Danial Day Lewis's best movie is so hard, but this one is one of his best.
  • edited August 2013
I haven't seen too many movies with him, unfortunately. Just There Will be Blood, and the first half of Lincoln at 5 in the morning.
  • edited August 2013
My Left Foot was also really good.

Although I liked most of Deadly Friend, I found the ending where a robot comes out of the girl's skin and snaps the boy's neck to be stupid.
  • edited August 2013
That was the only one I haven't seen... and I guess I don't have to watch it now. :p

EDIT: I just watched Dr. Strangelove for the first time. I liked it.

Not a great film, but a very pleasant one. The movie is actually really easy to describe to people who have seen a few Ghibli/Miyazaki films, because the film feels like the kind of everyday life scenarios that usually take up some portion of a Miyazaki film but expanded out into the full running time. It's sincere, calm, and nice to watch.

    42RZCAe.jpg

Stupidest, most shallow movie of the summer.

Really Good Movie Best western I have ever seen...

One of my favorite films, didn't watch it till recently and i regret waiting so long.

    30 Minutes or Less: 6/10
    The Road: 7.5/10
The People Under The Stairs: 5/10 (Just thought it was too weird/cheesy)

Can anyone recommend some good Zombie and/or Found Footage/Paranormal flicks? Tried watching one on Netflix with John Leguizamo, got 5 min in and just stopped the movie lol

The Bay 7/10. As far as found-footage films go, it's pretty decent. Very few things make me go 'ewwwwwww', but it appears human tongue devouring crustaceans (based on real marine parasites) are one of those things.
    Nice.

These might be seriously redundant suggestions given your username.

I really, really like the original Dawn of the Dead, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. The 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead is pretty good and had Romero's blessing, given the guy who directed also worked on Dawn of the Dead doing makeup/sfx and actually had an antagonist role in the film towards the end.

If you like zomedies, a lesser known Shaun of the Dead style film, is Cockneys Vs Zombies. It has a legendary British actor 'running' from zombies in a zimmerframe. What more could you want? ;)
  • edited August 2013
Also, Shawn of the Dead, check out the [REC] films. They're found footage and there's three of them. They're in Spanish, but much better than the Quarantine remakes.

The Canyons [2013] 9/10 Wow, this was pretty damn good. Lindsay Lohan <3 I couldn't care less about her personal life, she's an amazing actress! A 4,2 rating on IMDb is absolutely unfair. BTW, James Deen is hot as hell, I should totally see some of his adult movies! You guys have any recommendations? :D

I love that movie. And nobody ever remembers it.

Just that scene at the party where everyone ends up under the damn table. Brings a smile to my face just thinking about it.

I have to add this to the list of movies that I must purchase at my earliest convenience.

    That's V.R.U.S.P. for you. :D

If you look very closely, you can even find a very young Randy Quaid under that table.

Well, buy it! For a movie six years older than I am, the BR looks pretty damn solid.

That had such an impact that an entire generation knows Ride of the Valkyries as the "Kill The Wabbit" song.
