I do think that the drinking culture is emphasised less in the US than it is in AU/UK. A couple of Americans I know have claimed to never have been drunk, but I can't think of a single Aussie or Brit of my acquaintance in the same boat.
Yeah, it occurred to me the other day that I have no idea how much of a lightweight I may or may not be, as I've never had enough booze at once to even begin finding out.
I've been fully blown-out drunk a few times, but the novelty has long since worn off for me. Now when I get too drunk, I just start wishing I was sober so that I could have my eye-hand coordination back.
It's extremely frustrating to want to get some gaming done, but you're still too wasted to control the damn thing. And as I've said before, NEVER be drunk while on the 360 if your credit card info is already in it. Suddenly MS points don't mean anything, and you wake up the next morning wondering why your HDD is full of games you can't afford.
That said, there's a sweet spot of tipsiness that I do enjoy quite a bit. Just enough to get me feeling social.
I had drinks as a kid and teenager all the time. And by that I mean drinks poured by friends and family (cider, wine, champagne, things like that).
I don't like alcohol at all, but I like some alcohols, once they're alcohol-free. For instance, stuff cooked with alcohol, because the alcohol evaporates and what's left is the taste of the rest. Which in the drink is overpowered so I never get to taste it.
So yeah, for me alcohol was like coffee as a kid. That thing adults drank that was disgusting and that they'd try to make you drink too every so often and you'd accept to be polite.
I do think there is a cultural aspect to it. I've never seen alcohol as such a big deal in France as it seems to be in the US. You're allowed to drink it in the street, and street vendors that sell food usually sell cans of beers along cans of soda (and of course beer is an option in McDonald's, too). On the other hand, I haven't met many people who drank alcohol outside of meals in France.
Personally, I only really like cider. As in apple cider, the French kind. Never could find it in North America, when people have offered it in restaurants it was either apple juice or too strong. And really ultimately I prefer the alcohol-free sparkling stuff. Preferable apple flavoured.
I love how my birthday thread is still going on and the video of me getting a lapdance has even been removed. Also, the topic has turned to inebriation. I love this forum.

If it was my birthday thread, a video involving alcohol would have been removed and we'd be talking about lapdances.

Pants lapdance vid!?!?! Now that would've been a sight to behold!
I got a lapdance once, I just felt awkward and weird as opposed to aroused

In that case I'm beginning to suspect it is the unsavoury company I keep rather than any particular national differences.

I gotta get me a wife! I shall beat her at everything from kart racing to chess!
...
At being wine-os and at wifebeating.
I just slapped myself.

I suppose so. Well stated, tovarisch.

If this were my birthday thread, a lapdance involving alcohol would have probably never happened, and we'd be talking about videos.
I would think that a lapdancing lesion would be very uncomfortable.
I read that as "lapdancing lesions" and was like... ew.
EDIT: ooh snap Alcoremortis!
You are one hilarious woman, Alcore. Most people would chide him for his spelling, but no! You went the extra mile and everyone adores you for it.
I couldn't help myself.

Also...
I move that you two get a room. Does anyone wish to second the motion?

I think my room needs some sort of action happening in it anyway, it needs to learn the facts of life
Coming from you, SuperJesus; that's the saddest thing I've read all day.
Worry ye not, I have taught other rooms many a lesson
I'm a starving college student, what do you expect? Though, if they'll let me back into the morgue gift shop, I'll totally get you a souvenir.
It's all about bragging rights. Pure and simple.
Well, you did it. You lost me. Happy?
YES! I mean...uh...sorry about that.
I demand compensation.
Why certainly. Here you go:
Somehow, I feel duped.
*innocent smile*
I have no idea why you would ever think that.
