Maybe not the end of civilization. Just the world as we know it.
I was having flash-forwards of telling my grandchildren about the good old days when the internet was the frontier, about hunting down roving spambots, getting into online duels with people in different countries, and occasional raids by band of hackers. All before we all turned into mindless money drones and it became paved over with regulations and tracking devices.
Actually, this sounds like it could be an interesting story. Internet = Wild West.

That's why I was really hoping that Tron: Legacy would take place in the internet. The sequel still might. It almost seems like the internet would just be too huge complicated to even begin to illustrate in Tron form
The end of the world as we know it can be subtle. Some people might not even notice that it's there because they never experienced the wild frontier of the Internet.
It makes me TRULY want to scream! All of you media blowhards are IDIOTS! I say that to NBC and to its partner channels and CreativeAmerica.org that will all unknowingly destroy their own internet speech, jobs, freedoms, securities, EVERYTHING that totally belongs to the Internet!

NBC is very protective of its online presence. They were one of the first to have their own online hub for broadcasting their media as opposed to letting it fall to places like Youtube.
No wonder I haven't heard much about this on television....
I wonder if Telltale got one of these letters, in connection with their NBC Universal relationship.
Hmm, I haven't though of that. Telltale was in a liscensing agreement with NBC/Universal, I'm not so sure if it would count as a long time partnership. Of course I'm sure they want to liscense a few other NBC/Universal licenses. However, it might be reffering to just their TV partners.
BTW, the MPAA is willing to revise the SOPA bill, but I feel that it's STILL not gonna change the fact that the Internet is in danger of being censored entirely! And worse, MPAA thinks all of us who oppose the bill are liars! To which we reply: "No, we're not liars, YOU ARE!"
But there's no need to worry: There's a new Firefox add-on called "The Pirate Bay Dancing", and it may work in killing off DNS and IP blockades should Internet censorship come to America.
I hate to double-post, but look at this! Lamar Smith uses lies and claims to defend SOPA by claiming that claims that SOPA will censor the Internet "are blatant lies"! What an idiot Lamar is in claiming that "copyright infringement is equal to child porn"!
I have some more news for you. The OPEN Act has been proposed as an alternative to SOPA and PIPA, and it's so much better because this one won't block domain names, at least, so that it will be possible to go after legitimate cases of IP abuse without doing irreparable harm to the Internet.
Also, Wikipedia mulls a total blackout to oppose SOPA, which will be voted on around Thursday! I just don't think that blacking out Wikipedia would be a good idea, though.
Also, this reminds me of Team America: World Police, but substitute "we" for "Internet customers and lobbyists", "Film Actors Guild" for "members of Congress", and "Kim Jong-Il" for "the SOPA and PIPA bills, and Hollywood, the government, and all those who support these bills".
It just seems kind of mind-boggling to me... How could the US congress possibly be so stupid as to pass a major law that stifles the *one* industry (tech) that is still thriving in America during a recession? They have to come to their senses eventually, right?
Update: After GoDaddy's reversal, Reddit users are targeting Senator Bob Corker, one of the senators who support the National Defense Authorization Act and SOPA.
