Doug?!

edited May 2013 in The Walking Dead
Am I the only person on Earth who chose to save Doug?!

Carly is a woman, and kind of a hottie. You can tell she's sweet on Lee. And all I see is, "Carly had the gun, so I saved Carly!"

..... WHAT?!

Are you people listening to that statement? She had the gun... WHY DOES SHE NEED SAVED!? Doug had no weapons, defenseless. Carly had the freaking gun IN HER HAND. If this b**** is too stupid to even use the gun (I'm not even going to get into the battery debacle), what is she good for? She started off as a good shot, and then suddenly forgot how to use her gun.

So I'm a male player, and I chose to save Doug. Because he was defenseless and I thought homegirl could hold her own. I was wrong, and I don't even miss her.

That's my rant of the day.

i chose doug, because hes the tech guy. he's smart and intelligent, which can definitely help in the future

The gun was out of ammo at the time.

And while I admittedly saved Carley myself, I do think we need some more Doug-savers.

i saved doug, as i really wasn't into the "i don't know how to put batteries in the radio and after i make someone else get them for me i don't know how to put them in" thing.

As its just matter of time until that clumsiness makes someone die with some (oh silly me forgot to load the gun) lol

Doug's basement dweller knowledge might come in handy as well as his weight (might be of good use to block a door lol) and he is brave as carley told lee that he saved her earlier.

Also now larry is the only one that knows lee's secret in the group.

But yea ill save her on my second playthrough i have nothing against her.

I have all intentions of saving Doug... in round 2

i saved him on my 1st playthrough for same reasons stated earlier. + he's a geek, we can find themes for discussion easier, lol :-(

I saw that there were three options, Doug, Carley, and Carley's bag she was reaching for. So I chose the bag, hoping that I could give it to Carley and then run to help Doug... unfortunately it was not to be. :(

I saved Doug on my first playthrough. I felt bad because I let Carley die after she saved me, so I saved Carley on my second play through. It's too bad that one of them had to die because they would have made a cute couple.

What are you smoking? She obviously ran out of ammo because she was re-arranging more zombie face than a necro-plastic surgeon. And Doug wasn't totally defenseless either. He could've chatted the zombies into bordeom and then thrown his sandals at them.

    I save Doug as well!

Purely on the basis that Carley knew to much, she had some dangerous knowledge and she had to be eliminated, pure and simple.

    I say kill the woman.

No, 73% chose Carly at the time of this post (just finished the episode). Some people still chose Doug for some reason.

I think you missed the part where she was out of ammo and just as defenseless as doug at that point. She was reaching for her purse, that's where the ammo was. When you choose Carly, you toss her the purse with ammo.

You're left with a choice here. They're both equally as defenseless. You've got to balance what you've learned so far - and most people choose Carly because she's a marksman. Doug can... program a universal remote. Clementine could probably do that, c'mon.

I have a feeling that Doug will be more useful during the story as a techy nerd, but personally I'd much rather have someone who can wipe out zombies and save a life in a jam. Especially at that point when the drug store was being overrun.

That's why most people choose Carly. Will we regret it later? Maybe.

Your past isn't a huge secret. Hell - even that jerk with the heart problems knew my character's past.

For Carley, you just kick the crawler in the face, and then Doug just needs to slide down so they let go of him. Easy. I saved Doug on my first play through because of his knowledge of technology (robots) and seems like a smart guy.

i did carly on 1st run then doug on second on third will try neither lol

I saved Doug, if only for his bearalope shirt. Hell, I'd have just taken the shirt and left him to the walkers if I could! If he has to die, I hope it's through a clean head shot so the shirt is left intact.

I did not save Doug.. not that I didn't want to.. I didn't chose Carly for superficial reasons either I chose her because she came out to save us when Lee and the crew were out on the streets about to be munched on, went with to go find Glenn when she didn't have to, and because she knows Lee's secret and doesn't care..

Doug seemed to me like the kind of guy who would freak out or rat Lee out the second he found out the secret...

I did save doug in my first playthrough, I liked the guy. But then when I finished the game I realized that with no electricity now, why in hells name would we need a tech guy. So I saved carly in my second try. (oh and when we talk to him in the end he says: "I wish you saved carly instead." and i was like "your wish is my command")
  • edited April 2012
When I saved Carly I thought she might reload quick enough to shoot the zombie attacking her leg AND shoot the zombies attacking Doug. I was trying to save them both and I figured Carly was my best bet - I figured wrong. :)

I won't replay the episode yet though, because I want my choices the first time round to carry forward into Episode 2. I will probably replay the entire game from the beginning once I have played the final episode.

as for reasoning to save Doug: You'd actually want a tech guy around for any hot wiring youd need done to make basic components work with batteries and stuff.. although conventional power is out, theres tons of car batteries and household batteries you could use to power stuff up, and a guy with an understanding of electronics would be pretty useful. Carly failed at alot of stuff, like knowing what batteries do, and also she wasnt very useful at paying attention to her ammo supply either. being able to shoot is one aspect of successful gunplay, she totally ran from one part didnt check to see or notice the empty gun and died for it. I think you ll find someone else with at least her eptitude for gun savvyness in the future episodes.. might not have access to another IT guy.

why is this only a person thing? doug vs Carly
for me it come down to where the walkers were
walkers inside (ie the ones attacking carly) are alot more dangerous to my health then ones outside

I saved Doug because of what they accompolished.

    Carli
    • Saves us the first time we meet(Good)
    • Stupidly wastes a bullet on the zombie Lee was fighting to save Clementime(I was fighting the thing just fine, so bad)
    • The radio battery crap(derp)
    • Nearly goes guns a blazing at the hotel part(Lee had to tell her not to, Bad)
    • PUTS THE AMMO IN HER PURSE AND NOT HER FREAKING GUN!!!
    Doug
    • Programs a remote to turn on tvs in a different building to distract zombies(good)
    • Will be of obvious use when we have to fix the power in episode 2(good)
    • DIDN'T screw up ever.(good)

The hottie or the fat guy? Wasn't really a hard decision lol.
On the 2nd playthough I will save Doug though.

    considering Carly
knows that I'm supposedly a killer
I am taking a risk, but I saved her life.. that counts for something right? :P

FYI- The game saves more than one play through. Whenever you start a game, you choose which saved game you wish to continue with. So waiting until the next episode, just to keep your first play, is not necessary.

I have to say, one reason I did NOT save Doug my first play through, was because he is not so damned smart as many think. He fricken yelled across the street at me when I was getting the keys. I wanted to reply, "WTF, Dude? You TRYING to alert the walkers?!"

lol yea i feel that. But altogether he seems more useful than a chick who cant put batteries in properly, or know how to manage a gun efficiently.

Only thing is though i expect him to be a goof ball character cuz hes a buddy of the tell tale team that they put in the game, so i expect lolz and stupidity to ensue

It´s a hard decision imo, Doug is a living Geek caricature and sadly boring too.
The reporter on the other hand is dumb and threatens me, as well as disagrees when i decide to be mercyful to the infected woman...

couldn´t i just run and let both of them get eaten.. together with Lilys dad... for what the sucker does, despite i rescue his black heart... bah

I was hoping for an option to tell Clem to get what Carly needed out of her purse while Lee saves Doug.

We'll just chalk one up for "Lee not wanting to put Clem in danger".

    OUCH! By the hair!!

Same here, then when I talked to him by the motel I was thinking he might end up trying to kill me the way he was saying I should have saved her instead. Like he was pissed off at me.

IF you save Doug you don't have time to pick the gun up. I saved Carly so we'd have that gun. When she dies next time hopefully we'd have time to pick it up. Weapons are a precious commodity lol

Was i the only one to decide to let doug die because hes a bit chunky? That boy would just slow me down and eat all our food. If zombieland taugt me anything its that fat people dont survive long in zombie apocalypses.

and twinkies are hard to find and you shouldn't search for them with a grenade launcher/shotgun.....

i hope they make second zombie land lol

Same here. Thought that the secret would be safe if I let Carley die. It was a big surprise for me when Larry told me that he did also know :( So I saved Carley on my second playthrough :)

anyone else thought about doug being able to fix clem's walkie talkie at some point ?

would of been nice to try and ask him just before 'larry' pitched his 2 cents..

I chose to save Doug as well, also for his electronics knowledge. I was surprised when I finished the episode on Xbox that only 26% of the other players saved him.

Not only that, but then he yells at the zombies AGAIN to alert them once you've taken the keys. Notice how they don't even start turning away from the TVs until after he shouts at you. Yeah, I'm glad I went with Carley. >_>
