I liked Doug, and considering I got a sense he was partial to Lee in a same sex oriented way ("Lee, I think you're a great guy...")

I'd love it if whoever Lee saved he ended up together with. I saved Carley, but I bet a lot of people who saved Doug would be pissed :D

Doug is a likeable guy. But he was also one of the most expendable guys in the group.

If you intend to survive the zombie apocalypse.
I mean really survive it. And not just survive the 5 episodes this game has to offer. I guess i live myself into an RPG game like this a little to much. But on the other side, if i didnt i wouldnt bother with it.
Your gonna need the children and the women, for obvious reasons.
Your not gonna survive if you have a 5 man sausage party sitting around a camp fire jerking off while the woman and children was sacked 2 years earlier.
And Doug, like Glen, Larry and Lee. Are the odd men out.
Kenny, well he is a familly man and for now i take that into consideration, but he to is expendable if things get bad enough. And probably Katjaa, im guessing she is late 30, early 40?

But ya. In another playthrough im gonna save Doug, just to get to know him a little better. Because this is a game and i can. But in my first and primary one, i didnt get that chanse. Pity.

I agree with some of what you say but if you save all the women then whats the point of having all women sitting around a camp fire with no sauages to sizzle. and I would say that Katjaa is in her early 30s :D

I saved Doug. I had a feeling the moment he first showed up that he was one of those expendable characters, and I vowed at that point to keep him alive if I could. It's a given that characters are going to die in a zombie game, but darn it if I get to choose who then I'm going to make the best of it. Doug was the far more likable character to me.

Doug's skill set does have a positive impact on survival of the group, it was seen in the 20 minute demo at E3.

Not sure if i should give any spoilers...

    I saved Doug too.

Doug was pinned by multiple zombies with no way of escaping. Carly on the other hand had a gun and a single zombie on her. I thought she would have kept spare bullets in a pocket, or use her gun as a club if needed. Unfortunately, I was wrong and she died. However, I don't regret my decision.

    Analysing the characters:

    Doug:

Can fight zombies without weapons. (Carly states this). Heavy weight useful for pushing on things. (Stopping doors from opening and such.) Experienced with electronics. (May be useful later.)

    Carly:

Can't handle single zombie attacks. (As seen.) Has information on people. (Reporter background). Can aim a gun. (Though, at risk of attracting zombies.)

So in the long run, I think Doug would be more useful than Carly. c:

    1. She was to stupid to check if there were battery's in the radio.

    2. She didn't know what battery's looked like.

    3. After I gave her the battery's she didn't know how to put them in correctly.

Anyone else here agree with me on this? Darwin would say she needed to die.

EDIT: Could an admin please remove this thread. Thanks CapnJay for warning me,

LOL in episode one when you are in the drugs store, look at the notice board behind Doug when he stands at the door, its full of random useless bits of papaer, but the one that sticks out the most is one that says " THE IT GUYS ". a hint that Saving doug is the better choice perhaps? anyone see this?
  • edited June 2012
Haha, well, he was based on a real person who used to be an IT guy at Telltales, so everyone is saying we should save Doug. Personally, I think even if we chose Carley or Doug, they won't last too long in the game. :P

Wasn't so funny last time. Anyone against merging this thread with the "Doug" discussion?
  • edited June 2012
Maybe someone had a clever idea. THE IT GUYS for your problem. So to say, if I had an ad for IT that would be a catchy hook. Or maybe the guy in charge of background objects copied that slogan off the side of a bus, on the way in to work. Not trying to give anyone a hard time. Could be something there, or we could be reading a little more into this. Either way I want to play through the decisions to see how they all play out.

Maybe you escape next episode because Doug can hack the prison systems. That was why I chose him. Todays prisons run off of control panels, vs a huge ring of iron keys to navigate now a days.

One last thing. Having a good shooter is nice, but if she shoots every walker within earshot is gonna come check it out. Short term solution, potential long term issue.

A guy who can work todays electronics, especially someone Gung-Ho enough to memorize all the universal TV codes?! You all have seen those pages, He might have a little Gump in him. ;)

Yes I definitely think this is a merge required thread. I think the title of this is pretty much part of the discussion in the other thread.

    Done.

In response to the actual question: Telltale puts the same amount of effort into Carley and Doug. So if it turns out only about a quarter of players chose to save Doug, they might get a little worried that they're working very hard for just a minority. So, yeah, I can understand if the official impulse is to push a bit into the Doug direction to balance things out.

What I mean is no matter who you choose, that will affect the game outcome from then on. So even if they whoever you choose dies, whatever they did would have been different than the other char choice up to that point. All subsequent actions from those actions differ, etc. :)

Thats the fun of these kinds of games. You can go back and rerun it anyway you want.:D

Why can't I let everyone die?

Why can't I let everyone die?

I really hope you mean in the game!! :D

I chose Doug just because Carly knew who I was so it can be an issue later on but on my 2nd play through I save Carly just to see the other story. I also used the same answers to the questions to I can see the difference.

After I have finished both stories I might mix it up to see if things change since they stated your answers effect the game and the way the story plays out.
  • edited June 2012
If you dont make a choice in time do they both die? Can't play it right now to find out.

  • edited June 2012
I didn't save Doug, he saved me.;)
  • edited June 2012
I tried both ways, and I'm starting to think that Doug would be a better person to save. Carly just has her gun - without it, she can't do much. Doug would be good, tinkering with the electronics. :D
  • edited June 2012
Plus how many bullets does that gun have left? Doen't matter how well you shoot, if you are outa ammo. ;)
  • edited December 2012
she was out of ammo dumbass. Doug is the 1 who used his back to block out the zombies which was dumb.
  • edited December 2012
I was shouting at Clem to get Carley some ammo, she just stood there, so I saved Carley. xD
On my first save though, I saved Doug because I just clicked on the first person, I didn't even think about it, thought I was gonna be able to save them both.
Also, if you save Doug, he keeps on asking you why you save him and not Carley. But when you save Carley, she said she understands why.
  • edited December 2012
I saved Doug. He had three zombies clawing at his back vs Carly who had a gun and one grabbing at her heel from under a wall or something. He seemed to be in a lot more trouble so I saved him first.

Obviously video game logic means that if you save one the other will die no matter what but disregarding it, that was why I saved Doug.
  • edited December 2012
1 of the reasons i liked Carley cuz she had a rather.. soothing, calm voice. this is especially noticable in episode 3.
  • edited December 2012
I saved Carley because, ya know, Doug had maybe like two minutes of screen time in episode one. We didn't even see him in nearly the entirety of the first scene and when they finally showed him near the end of the scene, after Carley had already saved me twice and backed me up, I was legit like "who the heck is that guy?"

After saving Carley in my first playthrough and Doug in my second I can honestly say I liked Carley more. I still liked Doug though, he's a way better character then 90% of the others.

Jesus Christ! It's become a 'hipster' thing to save Doug. Most people who save Doug ask 'am I the only one who saved Doug' and think that their superior for saving Doug. I saved Carley on my first play-through because I liked her better; please tell me how wrong I am. The game made Carley seem much more useful IMO and it was just my honest reaction to save her. God, I don't understand why people can't save whoever they want and be done with it.
