I prefer to have complete games but I played and liked the demo so I bought it.
But the question is strange. The official announcements, the demo and this site are stating clearly that the game is delivered in episodes. So how, Antioche, were you able to oversee this? I hope you learnt something from it but in my opinion there is no need to make a post and humiliate yourself even further.
From what I read; I suspect you are pulling a "Lost" writers' convention; & actually writing/releasing the episodes according to viewer feedback on the forums.
("We didn't know what the smoke monster really was..we just paid attention to the forums and made sure it was NOT what most people claimed they thought!..")
Well, you will have to read again or entirely change your sources. There was a disappointing Season ending or two in the last six years, but never due to fans' input! The Season arc is developed in advance of course, and if there is a grand "solution", of course the designers of the episodes know it beforehand and do not make something up two days before the Season ends. This is neither "Lost" nor the "X Files". When episode 1 releases, Telltale doesn't START making episode two. The script is probably more or less finished for episodes 3 and 4 right now, voiceover work for 3 in progress and so on. Details, for example insider jokes and the like can still be inserted with feedback from the forum, and there's probably a little wiggle room in the character's personalities also, and it's great that TTG does this.
Would never have bought the game had I known it had a tw-hour playthrough ( with inturrupting phone calls ) & that our releases for further episodes were going to be so long in coming.
Won't make that mistake again with your company.
Yeah, the playthrough time. I can indeed not remember anyone arguing for shorter episodes on these forums in the last years. But quite a few were arguing for more time between the episodes so the eps could be a bit longer and more detailed. You can't have it both ways.
As opposed to the previous Universal franchises, I have the feeling that TWD delivers quite a unique and interesting gaming experience. This is just not a game where repetitive actions can stretch the time spent with the game to infinity, and it is a better game because of it. I feel that the 10 hours per playthrough I will eventually spend with this game will be much more quality time than any 150 hour farming RPG. I want this story to be about that length and NOT stretched to infinity just by throwing hundreds more zombies to fight in. This is an interactive story told in about ten hours total, and that is a good thing.
The episode length comes with the genre - and I'd still say this is an adventure game, and these games hardly have more than 10 hours of gameplay with very few exceptions. At normal prices 30$ and way up.
Combine this with the most informative thread on the subject being a fan-based poll about the suspected releae date of the next episode....
Thank you, we moderators thought that it might help new people get a hint AND help them seize on the rich waiting experience of long-term Telltale fans.
I & everyone else I personally speak to about it agrees; we won't support such in the future. It's no disrespect; it's a matter of consumer-taste.
It is surprising that more TWD fans - as compared to Back to the Future fans, for example - seem to be opposed to the episode model (my impression). After all, aren't they the ones eagerly waiting weeks for the next comic to arrive, which can't possibly last more than half an hour to read and is not interactive at all - at 2.99$ per issue? Where is the difference, besides that you have come to have other expectations from the different medium? Comparing episodes with the comics, you definitely get more for less and have to wait about equally long.
Only problem i have with it,is the length.I feel it should have been longer.I dont think the 5 episodes together if they are each this length, will feel long enough for me.
You and alot of others are missing a very crucial point to why the game is short. The choices! You have to make choices through-out the game. That means there has to be 2x more writing for every choice you make, which is more time taken away from actually game development, thus the games are shorter. If there weren't any choices I say the game would be about a good 4-6 hours long. Though I'm glad they opted for choice oriented gameplay, it adds more immersion to the world.
This thread has brightened my day. I'm waiting for someone to say they only go see or buy a movie once all the sequels are also out, or only watch a television show once it goes off the air, buying all 7 seasons at once, or waiting until the Walking Dead comic is completely done, getting all 100+ issues at once, just because they don't like the waits in between. Enjoy what is given to us when it's given to us. The rest will be along before you know it and there is plenty of stuff in life to enjoy in between.
On a completely unrelated note, I've decided to stop watching my favorite football team because they make us wait a whole week between games instead of playing their entire season in one day. Also, I'm mad that I have to wait 5 days between weekends, all weekends should be together in one giant superweekend, somebody please change the calendar and/or the universe to fix this oversight. That is all.

Btw, what's this game purpose? I mean, what are the goals there?
I really don't know it...just read/saw something
During the day you destroy trees , rocks ,and such for supplies to build your houses/castles/monuements to the Vanity at night you try to survive attacks by Spiders which drop string to make bows and such , Skeletons which drop arrows, Creepers which drop gunpowder occasionally and Zombies and basically survive or hide through the night. Other then that the Goal of the game is whatever you make it. My current goal is to lure as many monsters i can into my monster pit.
Well, I actually researched the game. Seeings as I have internet access, like everyone else that bought the game, and there are limitless avenues for checking a game out PRIOR to putting up any cash, why would anyone buy a game or any other product before looking into it? I had never heard of episodic gaming before so I studiously googled the phrase and guess what? I got tons of information about Episodic Games! Who'ld a thunk, right? Then I made an INFORMED decision so I would not have to post an whiny review about the game afterwards.
To be honest, I had some reservations concerning episodic games, but I went ahead and bought the full season. It's 25 bucks. Hardly a fortune. Now I am happy I did. I am looking at the Jurrasic Park game, you know, checking reviews, browsing the forum, doing my homework, prior to buying. If I like what I see I will buy that season too. You know, after I check out the game, first. Like everyone should. Hint Hint.

Huum... Sounds funny...also a "open game".
I saw a video last night they were showing like a castle....

Funny goal. How many do you have?
Havent made a Castle yet I have made two houses and a portal to hell. and am working on the base of my castle i'm building it on the water so it's a bit more work then just running in a line dropping cobblestones. also i got killed twice and lost my diamonds. so now i keep saving just in case.

Wow. You got all planned!
I think this game online with multiple players can be funny....
It will be a mess!
So this is a Minecraft discussion now, isn't it? Seriously, I really need confirmation here, because I intend to shove the posts into General Chat stat...

Sorry Boss.....
Well, back to Minecraft...do you think......joking :P
One of the greatest things is that sometimes you actually see fan feedback implemented in later episodes. In Tales of Monkey Island for example, Winslow was originally planned to be a relatively unimportant character, but was given an expanded role after people went nuts for him in the first episode. It's pretty awesome to see players influencing the game in ways like that.
You also have to remember that during the Devils Playhouse, people thought Satan would play some role as he is already an established character, and then in the finale he shows up just to say he has nothing to do with this and is being falsely accused...
and then Jurgeon was the cameraman acting like himself from Sammeth and Maximus' days because fans preffered him like that instead of his "current" look/personality.
Basically, Telltale will see what fans want, so Larry will die a slow painful death somehow:D
Had you known it was so episodical; with release dates as ephemeral as the tax returns of most 1%ers in the U.S. ?
Yes. Why? Becuase telltale said all this upfront. Not to mention all of their games(Minus Jurassic Park as it wasn't episodic) did this as well. Heck why didn't you notice this?
I have a tendency to be a fan-boy however; & the very HINT of a Walking dead game got me to not only purchase it; but as "head" ( heheh) of the zombie-preparation team in my area; had me purchase SEVERAL copies for friends and the like who I know enjoy the genre as well as the show.
Good for you.
Poorly done Telltale.
So its poorly done because YOU didn't read basic information...
From what I read; I suspect you are pulling a "Lost" writers' convention; & actually writing/releasing the episodes according to viewer feedback on the forums.
They do do that sometimes, see above point.
Would never have bought the game had I known it had a tw-hour playthrough ( with inturrupting phone calls ) & that our releases for further episodes were going to be so long in coming.
A month... The same month wait for a walking dead comic. Not to mention they said it was 2 hours long anyway. Again, your fault for not noticing.
Won't make that mistake again with your company.
Just buy the games after the episodes are all out. Most people do that. Don't get mad because you didn't pay attention to what they said.
First of all, nothing I say here could possibly embarass me.
Secondly; I am noticing the overall tint of the conversation being "If you didn't like it & you didn't want to support it why did you bother..?"
My point is to let you know "Not everyone is pleased with this" .. & as I've said before; of the four copies I purchased for myself & friends; all but one of us has completely dismissed the future releases of the game as irrelevant to their needs.
I bothered because I like zombie games. I bothered because I'm an adult with a jobi-job & $25 bucks means NO-thing to me.
What I value is my time.
As a paramedic I am certain you can appreciate how important that concept is to me, as well as everyone else who looks to me for assistance.
I didn't expect the game was unfinished, I expected a monthly release yes; but one that coincided with some sort of timeline people could understand.
A timeline that say wasn't attached to the developers' other (game related) responsibilities (Like landing an internship somewhere else..Yes, I read the forums when I have...time..)
& Vain; that "pretty damn impressive business model" you mention is in my opinion the next step in what we used to call "Vapor-ware".
Already had Hl2 screw my with episodic releases; & you see where it got valve with that series. It is my further opinion, that companies like Origin and Bethesda & Blizzard will chew this sort of gaming up and spit it out.
TTG will find as time goes on; fewer and fewer willing to pay people to develop a game.
A timeline that say wasn't attached to the developers' other (game related) responsibilities (Like landing an internship somewhere else..Yes, I read the forums when I have...time..)
Obviously, you don't read the forums thoroughly enough and make up your own stuff with half-truths and ill interpretations. The only person connected to Telltale that I could think of was mentioned as landing an internship "somewhere else" is a German film student who, after an internship at Telltale in 2010, still occasionally does animation work for them.
& Vain; that "pretty damn impressive business model" you mention is in my opinion the next step in what we used to call "Vapor-ware".
Telltale has grown continuously, and has presented their most successful franchise yet with TWD. They have never failed to deliver an entire Season of any franchise when it was announced - let alone bought. And how could they fail here? Not completing a Season would indeed mean vaporware, and a loss of customer trust unheard of.
Already had Hl2 screw my with episodic releases; & you see where it got valve with that series. It is my further opinion, that companies like Origin and Bethesda & Blizzard will chew this sort of gaming up and spit it out.
Valve? Yeah, you're right. I've never heard of that corporation. Must have gone bankrupt after whatever you're alluding to so skillfully has happened, or have at least faced stagnation. Whatever "Hl2" is, I'm sure it didn't sell that well.
Blizzard has three successful franchises. With one of them they have just fucked their customers completely, while another one is based on a 10 year old engine. If they don't get a customer friendly innovation injection immediately, we can assume that by next year we'll see some serious red numbers, don't you think?
EA has just been voted "worst company in America", and I seriously hope customers start acting accordingly. Origin as a platform seems to be off to such an ill start that EA now even seeks cooperation with Indie developers, which will hardly seem attractive to any game maker with a bit of insight into EA's decades of conquest, command and destruction of any game maker they could get hold of.
On a side note, the "company Origin" you're mentioning (or "Origin Systems") was chewed up in 1992 and spit up in 2004. One more area where a bit more research might have strengthened your argument.
Both EA as well as Blizzard are now rightfully perceived as perversely greedy. Telltale, on the other hand, offers an entire game series for 25$ without additional DLC costs, without handing over your privacy, without having to be online while you play their games.
TTG will find as time goes on; fewer and fewer willing to pay people to develop a game.
Sure. We are of course living in a world where people would never give a developer 3.3 million dollars out of the blue without so much as the faintest hint as to what game he's going to make with it (besides the genre), a year in advance. We are not living in a world where Telltale has grown year after year with episodic releases, and more customers with each franchise. You're right to assume that the last word in the success story of episodic gaming is not yet spoken, but TTG is off to a great start. Heck, maybe even the gamers' disappointment with other developers' DLC strategies will eventually backlash to Telltale's sales. But at the time, it doesn't look that way. It doesn't look like that at all.
I can REALLY relate to that. But I think that none of your time was wasted. You get a game with concise storytelling that is not stretched to 100 hours by mindless zombie killings. You get a game where every minute counts. And while you wait for the next episode, you can do whatever you like with your time. For comparison: with Blizzard's present endeavor, it looks like you can waste an entire TTG episode length just trying to log into Blizzard's server for a single player game. THAT's a waste of your time.
I didn't expect the game was unfinished, I expected a monthly release yes; but one that coincided with some sort of timeline people could understand.
The timeline is very understandable. Each episode is released a month after the last one. You know that the next episode will be released within a 30 day period. That's much more than can be said for any other company's episodic titles.
Already had Hl2 screw my with episodic releases; & you see where it got valve with that series. It is my further opinion, that companies like Origin and Bethesda & Blizzard will chew this sort of gaming up and spit it out.
You compare Telltale's episodic games with other companies like Valve, but there's a clear difference. Valve never announced when the next episodes will be released, and people end up waiting years for it to come out. Telltale has now finished 8 episodic "seasons" with monthly releases.
TRUST me.... right around the end of episode 2 when things are getting really interesting you will STILL.. want the next game right that second.. BUT many (probably not all) of you will be able to appreciate the opportunity to talk about the characters, story, and choices with fellow fans.
Half the fun of fandom comes from chatting and speculating with fellow like minded fans.. The episodic format really promotes and prolongs the experience.
Plus to an extent the fans get a say in some of the end product because unlike other companies they have the opportunity to make changes from fan reactions in the middle of the game.
irishmile, you make a very good point, i will be in at the top of the 'WERES EPISODE 3' thread, not to mention the 'EPISODE 3 RELEASE DATE GUESSING GAME' :P that being said, he does actually make a good point, it IS going to be all the sweeter for the wait!
Google can't solve everything, m'friend. As for the supposed overtime, I'm sure a little snag came up in the development or schedule, and are patching it up. Or, right now, PS Store is in maintenance as we speak, so..perhaps the next episode is being put it? Who knows? Only one way to find out.
So monthly is 30 days? Or would it be 31? Or 28 or even 29 days? Obviously it is more vague.
I really like it that some people have a problem with the release of the episodes.
Does it really matter when it will be released? I mean, will you die soon and this game was the last thing you wanted to do? If yes, then maybe it is good that you are forced to change your plans for the future. If not, then don't you have better things to do then playing games? If not, then it is EXTREMELY good that you are forced to change your near future at least.
Its the fact they lied about monthly thats the point
It is NOT a lie. It would have been a lie if they never planned to release it monthly. They might miss the deadline and you can blame them for missing it, when it is due.
I gotta agree in sense that Jurassic Park - The Game was partly so great experience for me, because from moment I started to play it, entire game was available and not delivered later in many parts (and the overall polish what that title got from not being rushed out).
Its the fact they lied about monthly thats the point
Ah but if you read the tiny letters they also stated that for any reason they deem worthy enough they can extend the waiting peroid of subsequet episodes without have to give you a reason why and by pre-ordering or buying the season you agreed to thoose terms.
Telltale shall further not be liable for any delay or failure to perform resulting from causes outside its reasonable control
They didn't lie about the monthly releases, but would you rather have your game now, and have it full of bugs and then come back here ranting about that or would you wait a couple of days more and get a good game ask youself that!
it is full of bugs and piss poor now the excitment well and truly worn off, 2 hours of crapy game play
Full of bugs? Ep. 1? Really..? Can you please point some of them out so I can have a look at them myself? or can you post some screenshots of the bugs you've seen? 'Cause i've done like 4 runs through the first episode with different choises and I haven't realy seen anything that resembles a bug laden game.
But me thinks the Troll just be trollin' 'cause the Troll be wantin' to troll!
laggy bad controls poor port from console to pc, and whith no info and the longer we wait for any news about the next one some time in june apparently, the more i look at what we have here its not that great in just 2 hours max play throuht just one real choice in epp 1 carly or doug same places same dialogue, end up in same place no matter what does not bode well for the rest of it
I do understand the frustration, if it would all be up to me I would also be wanting to play Ep. 2 right about now... But sometimes shit can hit the fan for no apparent reason... It's not 'cause they don't tell us whats wrong that there can't be an unforseen consequence, but coming on the forum to just rant a little... that never impressed the devs before and they won't stop letting it roll of their back now either.
Best thing you can do is let them sort it out go out into the backyard, yell for a minute at the top of your lungs get all the stress out and then wait till the cops show up to explain what all the yelling was about... 'Cause we all know the nosy neigour lady would be dailing 911 10secs into the yelling to report bloody murder.
PS: Who says that the Shawn/Duck choise won't have a ripple effect in the future, not to mention the %'s you get at the end saying how you did. Thoose at least will count for something in later episodes.
not trolling just disapointed at lack of info and a long wait for what anther 2 hours in a month sy more than a month
would not be so bad if you got 6- 10 hours out of it but so far every one saying 10 hours max for whole game
10h for a full game that interests me 100% is way better then crap like the latest FF that has you running through a corridor for 40 hours with only the impression that i got a choise in what I do!
Hmmm, should i got left or right >>> 10 min. later >>> well i'll be, the roads just merge again here... at least I get 40 hours of this mindnumbing crap it also cost me 3 times as much!
looking very low budget though the base game should be done already all epps, so coding for just 2 hours game play per epp should not be hard, the poor console to pc port is a clue this not a hard hitting game company, i cant see it geeting that many chioces as a delay already for epp 2 imagin how bad it will be by epp 5, past reseach suggest they have been unreliable in the past, not a good start, they wont tell us anything so feels like they might be in over there head

Maybe TTG doesn't produce top tier games like the big super companies and again I don't know what their budget is for a 5 episode game, but I personally think they pull it of very good. I have no problem with the PC version of this game in fact I can't even see myself playing this on my PS3 but thoose are different tastes. It's not like TTG is the only developer that has put a DLC or game on hold for a few weeks more, at least it means they are working on it.
There are other developers that distribute unfinished games to stamp a few more bucks out of the DLC's they bring out at the same time as the game is released... think about that!
there just doing the same thing only worse becuse we have already paid
How is that worse then comming home with a game and finding out halfway... that you can't have a full experience 'cause you gotta pay 10$ more for some shitty 100Kb DLC key to unlock stuff that's clearly already in the game but just not available to you?
We at least know we'll get our stuff even though it'll be a little later at no additional costs.
After episode 2 is out you can judge for yourself whether the branching choices being carried over were enough to justify the delay. I never for a moment thought TellTale were going to be able to keep to that brutal schedule given the type of game we're talking about. Personally I hope they take their time and manage to do something few developers have done before - get it right!
yes it is a cheap game all the more reason it should be on time
So a small game company with ambition to bring stuff that new and refreshing is the same as the big super companies that only brings out the same chow again and again *cough, Assassins Creed, Cough, cough...* (for example ofc) should bring out the games faster then a company that just cuts/pastes the same engine and interface for every thing they make?
it a simple game engin and shaded graphics very old school stuff should not be hard to keep a timline it is just point and click game
Your forgetting the important factor of "choise affects the game"... everything has sync out in the end, Sean Vanaman said ep.1 was just the training of the choise system... so due to the fact that by ep.5 stuff that maybe contains the info of up to who can say how many choises has to all create a coherent storyline for everyone who plays this game and that takes time.
Edit*: Btw, i'm done feeding the Troll for today... I got my thoughts about this into the ranting stew and will return to topics that acually matter.

Yes. Why? Becuase telltale said all this upfront. Not to mention all of their games(Minus Jurassic Park as it wasn't episodic) did this as well. Heck why didn't you notice this?
Good for you.
So its poorly done because YOU didn't read basic information...
They do do that sometimes, see above point.
A month... The same month wait for a walking dead comic. Not to mention they said it was 2 hours long anyway. Again, your fault for not noticing.
You compare Telltale's episodic games with other companies like Valve, but there's a clear difference. Valve never announced when the next episodes will be released, and people end up waiting years for it to come out. Telltale has now finished 8 episodic "seasons" with monthly releases.
They've earned their reputation as "the only company to have done episodic gaming right".
Sorry?
Over 4 weeks since episode 1 was released. Weeks in a month = 4.3 (https://www.google.co.uk/search?sugexp=chrome,mod=2&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=weeks+in+a+moth#hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&ei=z4i-T42hI4WY1AXb9d3AAg&ved=0CAcQBSgA&q=weeks+in+a+month&spell=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=5c37ccd3c94b846&biw=1024&bih=684).
I refer you to your own image.
Google can't solve everything, m'friend. As for the supposed overtime, I'm sure a little snag came up in the development or schedule, and are patching it up. Or, right now, PS Store is in maintenance as we speak, so..perhaps the next episode is being put it? Who knows? Only one way to find out.
But honestly it could be any time now.
Ah but if you read the tiny letters they also stated that for any reason they deem worthy enough they can extend the waiting peroid of subsequet episodes without have to give you a reason why and by pre-ordering or buying the season you agreed to thoose terms.
They didn't lie about the monthly releases, but would you rather have your game now, and have it full of bugs and then come back here ranting about that or would you wait a couple of days more and get a good game ask youself that!
Two words: total bollocks.
Obvious troll is obvious.
If you think that ask for a refund or something.
Truth be told, let the light of The_Ripper sooth your aching heart!!!
Your reasonings, sir, are beyond me...
