Flash, you've got 60 posts now, every single one of them flaming about release dates. Everyone is well aware of how you feel, and restating the same thing over and over isn't going to change anything. We've done this to death. Give it a rest already.

How is that worse then comming home with a game and finding out halfway... that you can't have a full experience 'cause you gotta pay 10$ more for some shitty 100Kb DLC key to unlock stuff that's clearly already in the game but just not available to you?

We at least know we'll get our stuff even though it'll be a little later at no additional costs.

thq/violition ARE doing that with saints row 3 and it's retarded...

is there a rule about double posting ? learn to edit flash..

question to flash if twd had proper graphics that where using the unreal engine/cryengine etc the game would of taken years to make and fans of the comic would of litterally exploded with hate if ttg had done that.. heck even the comic may of ended and been ignored by the time the game was ready...it's a comic based game so these type of graphic make sence and also the system requirments is lower so MOST people can play it..

Trust those of us who have been here for multiple game releases.. there is NOTHING to worry about... They will release it when its ready.

Like the Op I didn't research too much what it meant by an episodal game, I thought it meant the game play was broken into sections not time released chunks.

The game play wasn't brilliant and the choices you make are soon boring, after all it doen't matter what you chose, one or the other character dies. It's not as if your choices make a difference between whever someone or no-one dies.

But back to the episodes, having to wait anytime let alone a month for just 2 hours play is frustrating and adds nothing to the game. And for all those posters who believe Telltale are finishing each episode before release, believe me they are not.

The game in it's entirety has been finished, tested and proven, long before they sold the first episode (after 40 years in the IT industry I know what I'm talking about). Think about it, they would have to, they couldn't risk selling the first bit of a game unless they knew they also had the final part in the can, working and ready to go.

It was a mistake to buy this and I will never buy another game that releases itself in episodes. I've paid my money for the complete game (which for what it is, was over priced) and I want the full game NOW!

I get that and I support that. Still, isn't it an awful waste of two perfectly good two first posts to introduce yourself to the community?

    By the way, welcome! ;)

This, however, is something only someone with zero Telltale experience can say. Sorry IT guy, we know better. We've seen Telltale integrate spontaneous community reactions to the first episode into the later ones, we've seen them adapt to Michael J. Fox' busy schedule to still get his voice into BTTF episode 5 and so on.

So, you'd assume that episode 2 is already finished and just "held back", care to propose a reason for this? Is there still money involved or do you think the government somehow has its fingers in the matter? ;)

it's not entirely a wrong assumption. many games involving WTC were Delayed after 9/11 even though they were finished. But in the case of TWD i can't think of any world events that would be similar enough to delay the game

I remember my friend and I were at comic-con in 2009? And Telltale was there. We were having a look over the Sam and Max stuff, she was a big Sam and Max fan. One of the guys at the booth came over, and started telling us about the game. As soon as he said "episodic" we both kinda went "oh".

I said i wasn't really a fan of episodic gameplay. But if I like the game IP or idea for the game enough, I'll play.

My friend on the other hand, just went off. She said she hated waiting for the next episode. And by time you get to the next episode you forget half the things that happened in the previous one. And if you wait for them all to be released things get spoiled. And that was actually a deal breaker for her. She turned on her heel and walked away.

I always felt a bit bad for that guy, although I laughed about how much she was against episodic content. I honestly didn't expect her to be that against it.

The episodes' structures are ALL finished. They probably will add a few things/options in here and there still, and there's still the winners to add in for ep 4(They already have that set up too, just hafta texture the models/have the grand winner record some lines or whatever).

But they're also probably play testing and making sure Episode 2 works how it's supposed to. And the wait is again most likely them adding in or slightly changing things based on what they see. Telltale loves their fans

Television shows have series, comics have series. Films and games have sequels! not fucking episodes. Your business plan is not only flawed it's dumb. Release the ENTIRE game already and stop pissing about wasting our time and your time. When I initially bought the game I thought it was a bad idea but your incompetence has made me hate it. Let me say it again with caps lock on for you idiots. GAMES SHOULDN'T BE RELEASED AS A SERIES MORONS. ITS NOT CLEVER. ITS NOT ARTISTIC. ITS NOT EVEN EXCITING. Fucking morons go to business school and learn how to release a product consumers will enjoy.

They can't, it's nowhere near finished. In fact the development is at least partially affected by the player feedback they receive. Don't you wish you could have stopped the Mass Effect 3 ending being made?

Like I said on the Release Date Discussion thread, this form of distribution has it's drawbacks, but overall if done right I think it allows for better games. It also gives the developers an immediate cash injection and lessons the risk of the game ending up in development limbo or being cancelled entirely. Creatively, it benefits us. Financially, it benefits them. Everyone wins.

    I'll reiterate my point.
When I watch a TV program I look forward to the next episode.
When I play a game I want to sit down and play!
Fans of telltale will continue to buy into telltale's bullshit.
Fans of the walking dead will never again buy another telltale game.

Actually Walking Dead is my first TellTale game, and actually made me interested in the rest.

I think episodic gaming is fine although I think there is a lot to learn. Finishing a lot more of a series before release then releasing strictly on a monthly basis or shorter episodes but releasing on a strictly weekly structure for very low cost would work far better than the current haphazard launch schedule.

A new hour long episode every week for 12 weeks or 20 weeks would surely get more people interested for an extended period of time.

    Brilliant use of zero logic...
Heck, walking dead fans should be just as patient as telltale fans as they have to wait a month for even less than telltale's games...

    Wait, wait, wait...
Redbull is upset at the game being episodic, despite being told that the game would be episodic before he purchased it?
    Hmmm, yes, this seems logical.
  • edited June 2012
So wait, is Redbullxo saying that, since I wasn't a fan of The Walking Dead before being introduced to it by the game, that I couldn't possibly have become one as a result? That I'm not actually enjoying the comics I've been reading?

Funny, their investors seem to disagree with you.
”Regarding the investment Chris Hollenbeck, Managing Director of Granite Ventures said, “This team rocks. All the big trends in the video game business are converging toward the vision Telltale has had from the start ... they are positioned to lead the next wave and we're proud to be a part of it.”

You should go to school ... don't buy things you don't want.

You just like the first episode so much that you can't wait for the next one. That's kind of a compliment to TTG. But to me you seem to be a whiny little kid with no manners.

I have the theory that there are only 2 haters, who always create new forum accounts to spread their poison. And the one above is one of their accounts. Don't they have better things to do?

Theres just one comment I dont think is quite right.
the immediate feedback to and from the makers of the game while it is still in progress, all these things are merits of the episodic gaming concept.

While I am Constantly checking for the release of ep2 and disheartened when it not there I am in no way angry or resentful to TTG for this I think they have done a fantastic job and with the format of the game im surprised ep doesnt take months to make.
This said I have noticed a lack of responses to important questions from the TTG staff. I have seen a few responses to people who have mention aspects such as storyline or inconsistencies, the type of question that is easily answered because the person asking is under a misaprehension about some aspect. Some of these questions have been asked after more important questions have been posted so clearly there has been TTG staff on the forums to have answered them. Please dont misunderstand me I am in no way upset or angry by this, its just something i noticed and had to point out.
    :) :D

I think the comic analogy by Zmally and Superfluid works the best to describe the episodic model

    Why, thank you! :D

And although even in past years, not every "important" question got an answer from the devs, your observation that they're just not around as much for the TWD game as I pompously stated before is quite correct. I have a not that secret theory about WHY it is that way at present, and it has a lot to do with the single, well, communicative goal many TWD game fans in this forum have right now.

I still hope that we'll return to the usual, fun customer/dev communication once episode 2 is out and some official word about the (new?!) principles of the game schedule gets out there for authentic reference. Fingers crossed!!

Hello there, I bought the game because it looked cool and started playing. TBH I didn't do much research on the episodes or length of the game etc. I started playing at roughly 4pm. 2 Hours later I was done. Don't get me wrong the game was great and all but it was just far too short and leaves me with a disgusting taste. I don't want to wait for 1 or 2 months or however long every time for ONLY playing 2 hours. That's kind of ridicilous.

I told 2 of my friends about the game and they want to buy it too but I adviced them to wait until ALL GAME has been released in its entirely and THEN buy it. I would certainly have donew that if I knew beforehand. I mean 2 hours is just too short no matter if the game is great. I felt really empty and Like "WTF? that was IT??!" after finishing the episode after such an ridicilously short amount of time.

Any one else feels the same kind of frustration?

I was also very disappointed with how short the first episode was!!! Just when you thought it was about to get really good, it ends!!! I too beat it in a couple hours.. then played through all the rest of the options in another couple hours lol. Totally not enough gameplay time. I wish they would have given us a little more.. that was practically only a teaser!! but I'm hoping they have something bigger and better in store for us in the next episode/s!

Well the good news is the episodes in games past for TTG did not see equal amount of game time on every episode. Some were short, some were long. I'm going to guess from the amount of delay on this one that this is going to be a longer episode.

I'm going to guess from the amount of delay on this one that this is going to be a longer episode.

Or they'll supply more choices and arrive at the same length. Or they're supplying inverted controls and have to shoehorn that into the already finished installer. Maybe they have to take out scenes because this episode could otherwise look tastelessly similar to some recent news and it's going to be shorter because of it. Maybe the environments are more beautiful and that took some unexpected extra work. Maybe the E3 demo took up the better part of two weeks. Maybe a crucial voice actor got ill and they had to wait until he or she is halfway healthy again. Maybe an annoying bug keeps reappearing for unknown reasons. Or they're out of coffee. Or Doug Tabacco sued the hell out of TTG for defamatory portrayal.

Or it's just taking more time without much of a reason.

TL;DR: Jake has already stated that we will have to expect roughly the same episode length. He could be wrong, though. After all, three episodes are far from finished. ;)
